One of the earliest and best known
residents of Listowel died at noon on
Tuesday, May 24th, in the person of Ml s.
Wm. Gibson. The deceased has been in
feeble health for years. Isabella Thom p.
son, was born in Belfast, Irelaud, ninety
years ago and calve to this country
about 1848, and settled with her parcuts
in Kemptviile in the Ottawa district
where she lived until 1858, when elle
married the late Wm. Gibson who died
15 years ago. The deceased came to the
4th Dime with her husband, who hi d
settled there several years before, in
1854 and lived there for several years
when they moved to Listowel. In 1885
Mr: Gibson bought a farm on the 2nd
of Elma where they lived for three years
when they again came to Listowel where
Mrs. Gibson has since lived.
Two little Walkerton girls have been
left a legacy of $10,000. These girls are
Jane and Laura Hays, at present resid-
ing at Mr. Robert Lockhart's. Their
father, Mr. H. J. Hays, figured promi-
nently there a few years ago. Owing to
a disagreement with his wife, he made a
murderous assault on his mother-in-law
for which he had to do a term in the
Kingston penitentiary. An aunt of his
has just died, leaving an estate valued,
according to a Pittsburg paper, at hund-
reds of thousands of dollars, Hay's
father gets $10,000 iii cash and a 100 -acre
farm, but he himself gets nothing. Had
he lived a well ordered life, he would no
doubt have been left in an independent
position. The mother of these little
girls is now earning her own living. She
is employed as proof raider in a Pitts-
burg paper, at a salary of eight dollars a
month.

son, of St. Thomas, which took place at
the home of her parents, Dungannon, on
Tuesday of last week, Victoria Day,
The ceremony was performed by Rev,
Charles Rutherford, of the Presbyterian
church. Mr. and Kitson drove to Goder-
ich in time to take the afternoon train to
St. Thomas, where they will reside. Mr.
Kitson's parents were formerly residents
of West Wawanosh, and Miss Thomp'
sou was one of "Dungannon's lovely
girls."
