Visting- in Sunday with Marjorie Ryan
were her husband Lawrence, Anne and
Jerry Ryan and Freda Skinner. Last Mon-
day her daughter Sister Theresa Ryan and
Rose Ryan visited with her.
Jennie Hildebrand was out on Sunday to
Hazel Hildebrand's and also to a baby
shower in Listowel..
Alice Boyes spent Sunday afternoon with
daughter Helen Consitt and Dorothy Uniac.
Maria Goouerts spent Sunday with
daughter Elza Reiston.
Annie Harrison was out for a drive with
one of her old neighbours Bob Aberhart.
Greta Kerr visited Frank and Margaret
Smale and Mamie Ross.
Visiting with Dave and Eva Netzke were
great grandchildren Richard and Nancy
Bos and Amy, also their daughter Rose
Altman.
Elsie Southgate listed with Inez Spittal on
Thursday.
Johnnie, Marianna and Monica Ryan
visited with Marjorie Ryan.
Visiting with Inaz Spittal were Paul, Jane,
Peter Pat, Robert, Joan and Cara-.
' Edith Jessome had family members
Dwight and Suzanne Mennell, Karen and
Les Jessome and children Carl and Trevor
to visit her during the week, also friend John
Goldsmith on Monday afternoon.
"Pumpkin Carving" was Friday morn-
ing's activity at the Seaforth Manor.
Residents assembled in the day room and
while some residents watched, other carved
and cleaned out the pumpkins. Len Bloom-
field and Mamie Ross designed the creative
faces of the Jack -o -lanterns; which now
decorate the mantle and other areas.
Many thanks to Mary Ann McNichol for
the donation of the pumpins which made for
a fun mornings' activity.
Thursday residents boarded a bus for a
"Fall Colours" tour to Bayfield and toured
the harbor and marina also stopping at
Huron Ridge Acres for a glass of fresh apple
cider. Residents enjoyed seeing the chang-
ing color of the leaves as well as the crops
which are still not harvested. Accompany-
ing residents were volunteers Evelyn Carter
and Doreen Kelly, also staff members Jan-
nette Stoll and Darlene Friesen activity
coordinator.
Tuesday morning Grade 6 student
volunteers came and assisted with
wheelchair bowling. Residents are enjoying
these weekly visits with the school children.
Tuesday afternoon the movie on video was
"The Boy Who Could Fly".
Worship service was held on Wednesday
afternoon with Rev. Wm. Barber in charge.
Accompanying t the piano for the hymns
was Henrietta Brown.
Bingo was held Friday afternoon and
lucky bingos were won by Doris Smith, Mor-
timer Mann, Bert Deichert, Edith Salo,
Keith Herman, Dennis Arney and Wilma
Brill.
"Birthday Greetings" were extended to
four residents last week: Mell Hulley, Pen-
ny Caza, Madge Remes and Marjorie Ryan.
Personals
Visting with Bill Scott last Monday were
his sister Ellen Scott, Louey Shaw and Marg
Callender all of London.
Isobel Scott and Florence Stewart visited
with Inez Spittal and Bill Scott.
Margaret Garrett of Bayfield visited her
mother Mabel Handy.
Isobel Ratter, Buffalo, N.Y. and Jane
Burch, Stoney Lake, Ontario visited Tues-
day afternoon with their aunt Madeline
Slattery.
Mamie Ross was out on Friday afternoon
with Sandy Sommerville.
Mary McMillan and Mary Hart visited
with Madeline Slattery, Mary K. Ryan and
Marjorie Ryan.
Visiting with Mary K. Ryan were her
daughter Marty, Maurice Ryan, and on
Thursday Mary K. had an outing with her
daughter and son-in-law Theresa and
George Simpson.
Gladys Ruston and husband Ferg attend-
ed, Gladys' parents 50th wedding anniver-

Maplewood residents anticipating Halloween eve
Maplewood Manor residents are enjoying
the Halloween decorations and looking for-
ward to children coming for treats on
Halloween.
On Monday afternoon, the residents of
Maplewood went on a bus trip to see the col-
ored leaves. They were not disappointed.
The Bayfield area trees were beautiful. The
residents also made a stop in Bayfield at the
Albion Hotel dining room for coffee and
des :rt. Thank you to volunteers Gail Har-
r s, Anne Downey, Mary Chapple, Ruth
Bock and John Murray who accompanied
the residents on the trip.
.Tue§day afternoon, euchre was once
again the popular card game. Anyone
wishing to join the residents at 2 p.m. each
Tuesday is very welcome. It is always fun.
Wednesday morning the worship service
was a special one. The residents conducted
their own morning prayer. Winona
McDougall played favorite hymns while
everyone joined in with singing. Mabel
Crouch recited the scripture passage, the
13th chapter of first Corinthians. The ser-
vice was closed with Anna Agar leading the
Lord's Prayer.
Wednesday afternoon, the residents held
their monthly; meeting. Much of the discus-
sion at the meeting centred around the
Christmas Openhouse to be held Sunday,

November 27. There were many suggestions
to make the event a success.
Wednesday evening residents gathered in
the downstairs living room to play Lions
T.V. Bingo. Jennie Turnbull and Steve
Lupul joined the bingo players this week.
Last year the Junior Farmers helped with
T.V. Bingo. This year, starting November 7,
each Monday evening, the Junior Farmers
'are going to present a movie for the
residents.'
Friday morning, Mary Chapple
volunteered to help make decorative Hallo-
ween bats. Also for Halloween, thank you to
Karen and Brian Dillon and Brad Ribey for
contructing the pumpkin people for the front
of Maplewood. Elva Ellis, kindly donated
some outdoor articles for finishing touches
PEOPLE
on the pumpkin people. Inside Maplewood,
thanks to Frances Breen, whimsical Hallo-
ween pictures are decorating the windows
and walls for residents to enjoy.
Friday afternoon, Anne Downey called
the Bingo numbers for an eager group of
residents. This week four people were lucky
and won Wintario tickets. Elsie Shaddick
won two games, Les. Oliver, Anna Sherrin
and Steve-Lupul each won one game.
Welcome back -to Anne Crerar who was a
patient in Seaforth Community Hospital.
Thank you to Mrs. De Jong for kindly
donating many Reader's Digest condensed
books to Maplewood. Also thank you to the
ladies of Northside United Church, who
gave the pretty flower centre pieces to
Maplewood after their bazaar. The flowers
are lovely on the dining room table.

visited with Helen Byers on Friday. Sunday
visitors at the same home were Mr. and
Mrs. Paul Garrow of Hensall, Mr. and Mrs.

Mitchell and Glen Hinz of Palmerston.
VANDENBERK - Ginny Marie was born in
Clinton on Sunday, October 9, 1988,
weighing 8 lbs., 4 ozs, Proud parents are
Dave and Bonnie. Proud grandparents are
Pauline Weigel of Seaforth and Ted and
Wilha Vandenberk of Sarnia.

O'REILLY-HOUBEN
Mr. and Mrs. Robert John Houben are pic-
tured following their marriage on Saturday,
July 9, 1988 at St. Columban Catholic
Church. Reverend Father Joseph Hardy
performed the double ring ceremony and
celebrated the nuptial mass. The bride is the
former Carolyn Mary O'Reilly, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. John F. O'Reilly of RR 2
Dublin. The groom's parents are Mr. and
Mrs. John Houben of RR 5 Stratford. Music
was provided by Jayne and Lucille Delaney.
The ,bride's sister, Marlene Luyten was
matron of honor and bridesmaids included
Janet Greenwood and Sandra O'Reilly,
sisters of the bride, Colleen Melady, friend
of the bride, Dianne VanMoorsel, sister of
the groom, and Nancy O'Reilly, sister-in-
law of the bride. Jim Houben, brother of the
groom, was best man and guests were
ushered by Tom O'Reilly, brother of the
bride, and the groom's friends, Casey Van
Nynatten, Mark Coulthard, Paul White and
Keith Ehgoetz. Adam O'Reilly, nephew of
the bride, was ringbearer. A dinner and
reception was held at the Mitchell Com-
munity Centre. Jeff VanMoorsel was
master of ceremonies. Following a honey-
moon at St. Kitts in the Carribbean, the cou-
ple now reside in London. Guests attended
the wedding from Holland, Sarnia, Toronto,
Windsor and surrounding area.
MCCABE-GROOTHUIS
Rosemary Rita McCabe and Michael
James (Jim) Groothuis were married
Saturday, August 27, 1988 at Sacred Heart
Church in Kenilworth. The marriage
ceremony was performed by the bride's un-
cle Father Frank McCabe, who was assisted
by Father Gerald Mulhall, also an uncle of
the bride. The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Terrance McCabe of RR 4 Arthur
and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Gerald Groothuis of Egmondville. Dorothy
McCabe, sister of the bride was maid of
honor and bridesmaids were Theresa Mc-
Cabe, sister of the bride and Mrs. Steve Cur-
tis, sister of the groom. Flowergirl was
Stephanie Curtis, niece of the groom. Prank
Groothuis, brother of the groom, was best
man, and guests were ushered by Garry and
John Groothuis, both brothers of the groom.
Joshua Holland, nephew of the groom, was
the ringbearer. Music was performed by
Mrs. Garry Groothuis and Patricia, Marilyn
and Janice McCabe. Altar servers were
Steven McCabe, brother of the bride and
Paul Gorman, cousin of the bride. A dinner
and reception were held at the Arthur Com-
munity Centre. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Groothuis
are residing in Kitchener.

FINLAYSON-MCGAYIN
Shelley Jean Finlayson and Brian Neil
McGavin were married Saturday, August
27, 1988 at St. Andrew's United Church in
Kippen by the Reverend Lorne Keays. The
bride is the daughter of Laird and Ruby
Finlayson of RR 3 Kippen and the groom is
the son of Neil and Marie McGavin of RR 4
Walton. Matron of honor was Sandra Wilson
and bridesmaids were Cathy McGavin,
Darlene Radford, Sue Ann Van Miltenberg,
Sharon Carnochan and Heather McGavin.
Amanda Van Miltenberg served as
flowergirl. Best man was Jeff McGavin and
guests were ushered by Brad Campbell,
Greg Beuermann, Pat Melady, Randy
Wilson and Mike Jones. Steven Carnochan
was the ringbearer. Following the wedding
a reception was held at the Seaforth and
District Community Centres. The couple en-
joyed a wedding trip to' Runaway Bay,
Jamaica and now reside at RR 4 Walton.

ALEX RONEY
Alex Roney of RR 2 Dublin, died Mon-
day, October 17, 1988 at the RECD of the
Stratford General Hospital. He was 98.
Mr. Roney is survived by three sons,
Earl, Robert and Franklin, all of Hibbert
Township, and by two daughters, Edith
Bell of RR 2 Seaforth and Hazel Hums of
Stratford.
Also surviving are; one brother Joe
Roney of Mitchell; 19 grandchildren and
nine great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Lettie in
1975 and by one daughter, Ethel Mahaffy
in 1983.
Funeral services were held at the
Lockhart Funeral Home on Wednesday.
Interment in Woodland Cemetery.
