The Centenaires were stuck ill first gear for the first period in Lucan Wednesday night, and were held scoreless while the Lucan Irish Six got four goals. Andy Ball was the first Centenaire to blink the red light in the second period assisted by Blair Beuermann and Steve Schroeder. Brad Carter was next on the scoresheet as he picked up a puck which had rebounded off the back boards and drove it off the Lucan goaltender's shoulder and into his net. Four minutes later a slap shot from a bad angle gave Carter his second goal of the night. Jeff Gemmell assisted on both goals while Terry Gray and Neil Corbett each picked up a point. But while the Centenaires scored three times in the second period, they were still outscored by Lucan who got five more goals to give them a 9-3 lead. Ray Murray scored twice in the third period and was assisted by. Carter on. each. Kevin McLlwain also scored assisted by Ball and Schroeder. But Lucan wasn't even going to let Seaforth back in the game, and they extend- ed their lead by five goals. The Centenaires lost the game by a final score of 14-6. Centenaire's goaltender Trevor Fortune faced over 70 shots during the night(mare). It was a different Centenaires team which took on Tavistock in Seaforth Sunday after- noon, and while they let the visiting team jump into an early two goal lead, they didn't wait until the second period to get back' in the hockey game. Ray Murray slid one in the bottom corner to get Seaforth on the Smarties lead pack drop games board with 5:38 left in the period, assisted by Steve Schroeder and Mike Betties. And Seaforth tied the game before the period ran out as Ray Murray and Carter set Corbett up for a second Centenaire goal on a power play. Carter teamed up with Brad Beutten- miller to give Seaforth a lead in the second period, but Tavistock tied it back up minutes later. Ball gave the lead back to Seaforth assisted by Beuermann and Bet- ties, but Tavistock took command of the see- sawing score with a tying goal, and with 1:15 left in the period took advantage of a power play to take a 5-4 lead. THE HURON EXPOSITOR, OCTOBER 26, 1988 — 9A to Tavistock and Lucan Betties stickhandled his way to an unassisted goal which tied the game, but Tavistock came back with a shorthanded goal and another at 5:31 to give them a 7-5 lead. A Seaforth power play at 1:54 resulted in another goal by Corbett, Carter and Mur- ray. With time running out Seaforth pulled goaltender Bill Tremeer to go for the tying goal, but a Seaforth penalty at 1:18 meant the empty net only gave them a full line of five skaters rather than an extra attacker. But a faceoff on the Seaforth side of centre went the wrong way and a Tavistock player put an insurance puck into the empty net with 40 seconds left. The second empty net goal at 0:15 was redundant. Seaforth ended up on the short end of what finished as a 9-6 game. Shots on goal in the game were 49-42 for Tavistock. The Centenaires record now stands at 1 win and 5 losses. Centenaires' coach Graham Nesbitt had set a goal to beat the 1987-88 season record of three wins by the end of October. The loss to Tavistock makes it impossible to beat the record in the first month of play, but the record can be tied with wins against Brussels on October 28 and Exeter on October 30. Both games are in Seaforth. Here, Bill Tremeer makes a save as Goaltending tops in Parrline, Royals Perth 0 Queens 4 Going all out this season with a new name change, Audrey Hutton (Smith) is a hero with the Queens first goal, thanking Teresa Finlayson for her help. Cheryl Kruse needed no back up as she faithfully scored an awesome goal. Right winger Marg Hender- son switched hands left to right, right to left and finally hit the ball and chalked up a sure shot goal. Candid Jean Haggitt exploded, and hearing the crys of eagerness the daring goalie broke from the net and beat the op- posing player to the ball and fulfilled Jean's demands as she darts down the ice and scores with a brutefull shot, she then thanks Norah Eckert for the pass. The Perth Ladies keep saying over and over, DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY! Jr Farmers 0 Winthrop 4 It looks like team work to me as Deb Mur-. ray vanishes down the ice and scored. Hav- ing done this twice she attributed her suc- cess to Susan Hulley, for exuberant passing. Rookie Tracy Bennett needs no help to stake out the top corner of the net and score a speechless goal. Come on Farmers, the season has just begun, so keep on trying. Parr Line 8 Commercial 0 Sharon Whitefield achieved a hat trick due to the exceptional passing by Deb Han- nah, Dianne Shapton and Sueanne Van- Miltenburg. Adequate goal scoring and needing no help go to SueAnne VanMilten- burg and Glenda Chaput. Strong defence made Dianne Shapton look easy as she scored an effective goal. Help came from Sandra Wilson. Heidi Elliott, another defence player, also blasted the ball two feet from the red line and scored an elegant goal. A great pass by Bev Shea. Look out, Joan Hendersontas the ball and as her ego runs wild she doomed a •sure shot off a durable pass by Lori Symons. Hey! Commercial Ladies keep smiling, there's always next week.
