The week of October tenth has been a good one for many area bowlers. Gerry Armstrong of the St. James league bonded a stunning 339 -single and whopping 828 -triple: 140 and 231 above his 199 average. George Love also of the St. James league out bowled his 228 -average with a single -346 (plus 118) another 331 -single (plus 103) and he finished off with an 849 -triple (plus 165). Randy Somerville bowled a 273 -single and Keith McMillan a 271 -single. For the Thursday Nighters it was women's night. Kathy Wright bowled her personal best game an awesome 203 -single and Carol Johnston went completely off the scale with here 313 -single and her 715 -triple. With inspiration like this 1 know my first 300 game is just waiting to hapeien. You have also been told about an upcom- ing pcom ing tournament which will be held in con- junction with your regular league bowling. All it is going to cost you is an itsy bitsy $2 to enter and the rules are just as easy to take. A person with a high average and a person with a low average will be placed together on a team. Their averages will be set as of last week and they will bowl as a team for the next six weeks. As long as they bowl above their combined avefage they will re- main in the running and at the end of the six week period the top teams from each group will go onto the next round. Sounds easy doesn't it and you get all this for only two bucks. Not many bargains like that around any more so sign up and go for the glory, the prestige of being number one in your town, your province and if you have the right stuff your country. Lower teams showing their stuff on Thursday night The Thursday Niters Bowling League tightened up the ranks as the lower team showed the front runners what they are real- ly made of. The Will-Nots were looking for big points but the Big Es could not be denied as they haven't been shut out yet - losing 5-2. Dan Bennewies led the Will-Nots with scores of 264, 242 and 196 for a 702 total. Dave Moody and Steve Steep also showed great form roll- ing 203, 263 and 196 for 662 and 224, 202 and 238 for 664 totals. Ken Whetham was the big shooter for the Big Es with games of 241,189 and 172 for a 602 total. A big personal high of 203 was thrown by Kathy Wright The Aces were looking for revenge and they succeeded - to the tune of seven big points over the first place Wanderers. Super spare Carol Johnson led the Aces with three great games of 258, 221 and 202 for 681. Deb Bedard was not to be outdone as she put up some good scores of her own with 223, 221 and 154 for 598.Doug Proctor led the Wanderers with scores of 248, 214 and 196 for a 658 total. Perth, Farmers play to scoreless tie OCTOBER 12 --LADIES BROOMBALL PERTH 0—JR. FARMERS 0 - You couldn't ask for a better played game as both of these teams played just a stead- fast pace to a zip, zip game. COMMERCIAL 0—QUEENS 5 A bolt of lightening flashed as Jean Hag- gitt capitalized twice off great passing by Cheryl Kruse and Joan Bridge. Theresa Finlayson also scored two goals, with Janice Cairns at her side. Lynn Devereaux scored the Queens fifth goal. The Commercial Ladies had great effort the whole game but could not achieve any goals. WINTHROP 0—PARR LINE 1 With two minutes left, wouldn't you know the stupid ball would fall directly into the net. A deflected goal is credited to Heidi Elliott. What a fanatical game to watch as Winthrop Ladies astonish the crowd with their whimsical ability to play broomball. A great game ladies. MENS BROOMBALL OCTOBER 13 DUMPERS 2—KNIGHTS 0 Excessive energy by Brett Finlayson who knelt and drilled exhilarating shots for two sure goals. A little help came from Bill Dale, Dale Kennedy and Gord Henderson. The Knights couldn't buy a goal butthe potential was there. RAIDERS 1—CHISELHURST 0 The Raiders were exhausted after their game of scrimmage, due to the fact the Chiselhurst men did not participate. The Raiders were bewildered by their win. WINTHROP 2—EASY RIDERS 11 After a year of recuperating the Easy Riders are back. Starting with a hat trick was Joe Dorssers, who will probably have trouble removing his helmet. Help came from Terry Morey, Jerry Zwep, Jeff Allen and John Hicknell. Wayne Gingerich step- ped on the ice and scored, not once but twice. Help came from Dave Hulley. Steve Haggitt, Martin Wynja and Robert McGregor also put their two cents worth in. Last but not least Dave Hulley was two feet from the opposing goalie when he blasted it into the net. For Winthrop, Dave Linton and Bill Shortreed diverged the opposing goalie and scored a goal each. Great comeback from Neil Mitchell, John VanVliet and Steve Knight. PARR LINE 0—RED RUSTLERS 3 Lightfooted Ralph Nivins skipped across the ice and tipped the ball into the net twice with no problem at all off an amazing set up by Robert Hunking. Les Falconer proved the force behind his shot is uncontrollable as it passed through the goalies glove into the net. Art Veenstra assisted. Parr Line mens entire caliber force proved helpless as the buzzer sounded to end the game. RATS 1—ROYALS 2 Pete Klaver was thrilled to get the first goal which was deflected in by the other team. But comrade Tony Decorte highlighted the game with his goal. The first year rookie was set up by Steve Eckert Jr. and Bill Brown Jr, with only 35 seconds left in the game, Rob MacLean smacked the ball into the net. The opposing goalie had so many bodies in front helping him that he had no chance at all to see the hall travelling towards him. Thursday, October 20 at 7:30 P.M. Knights vs River Rats, at 8:20 P.M. Easy Riders vs Dumpers, at 9:10 P.M. Royals vs Parr Line, at 10:00 P.M. Red Rustlers vs Winthrop, and at 10:50 P.M. Raiders vs Grads.
