Police argue that there is an increase in violence and in the use of guns, particular- ly in the drug trade. These units are train- ed to deal with hostage or terrorist type situations with a minimum of disturbance. They're special police for special problems. But one could argue back that these teams look more like the army than policemen. In Walton they appeared more concerned with moving in on the holdout's house than they were with negotiating with him. They seemed more willing to let their .weapons negotiate for them. Having such units is no doubt a benefit in situations involving heavily armed criminals. But I think they should stay home and let regular police handle domestic disputes -even ones which in- volve firearms. And if these special units are only to be called to rare situations brhere additional firepower and special tactics are called for, and spend the balance of their time in continuous training or being inactive, maybe the police should come up with another alternative to provide this kind of law enforcement. Correction In an article in last week's Huron Ex- positor Nancy Kale was incorrectly iden- tified as the President of the Seaforth dior- ticultural Society. Mrs. Kale is in fact the 1st Vice President and Program Coordinator while Margaret DeJong is President. Our apologies for this error. THEATRE DIRECT presented their play Thin Ice at Seaforth District High School last week. The play deals with sexual stereotypes, and the actors take the parts of teens in dating situations ranging from hilarious to dramatic. Here the actors are shown with the phones that play an important part in the lives of the teenagers they portray. They are Max Hancock, Andrea Moodie, Laura Hubert, and Jack Nicholson. Corbett photo.
