THE CAUSE OF THE SMOKE at Dave's Collision and Repair in Varna turned out to be
this smoke making machine. But this was found out only after Bill Thompson, shown
here, and other members of the Brucefield Fire Department had blindly searched the
building for signs of flame, and managed to find and drag out some "unconscious"
bodies which were found to be unharmed by the artificial smoke. The training exercise
tests how the firefighters Would respond in a real emergency situation, and for Mr.
Thompson, who had no prior knowledge of the exercise, found it to be a real learning
experience. Corbett photo.
