Julie Leigh from Survival Through
Friendship House in Goderich, spoke about
the purpose, philosophy and help provided
by the shelter for battered women
throughout Huron Coi nty. Some of the
statistics Ms, Leigh quoted were quite alar-
ming. One in every eight women are abused
in some way, shape or form, whether it be
mental, physical or sexual abuse. She
reminded us that women deserve to be
treated with respect, that we are worthwhile
and important human beings. Women are
not to blame for being beaten and abused
and we are not the cause of another's violent
behaviour. We do not have to take it. There
is a 24 hour telephone line for information
and crisis calls. The shelter will provide ac-
commodation and meals for a period of up to
six weeks. The home is funded by public
donations and through government grants.
The roll call was for members to bring cann-
ed or paper goods for Friendship House and
a nice amount was collected and presented
to Julie Leigh.
Victoria Bisback favoured with three
songs. Rena Caldwell was the only member
who wasn't wearing her W.I pin and had to
pay a 20 cent fine. Mattie McGregor thanked
members for cards and flowers sent to her
toys Nas; Line
nephew Rorert Grenier and spending time
visiting with other friends and relatives in
the area.

of a large box of groceries from Lyons Food
Market. Special thanks to Peg and Cleave
Coombs for looking after the booth both

Phillips and his crew who painted,
decorated, installed and removed the booth
at the fair.
During the course of the evening a presen-
tation of a cheque for $10,000 was presented
by Legion President Mel Melanson to a
representative of the Hospital Boad. This
money is for the hospital's building expan-
sion campaign when It begins in the near
