FALL PROGRAM '88 at VANASTRA RECREATION CENTRE I THIS WEEK IN Under 17 team finishes St. Columban's under 17 soccer team finished the regular season in fine fashion with a perfect record of 12 wins, 0 losses and 0 ties. Their final victories. were 5 to 4 win over 'Merton, 2 to 1 win over Grand "'end, 7 to 0 win over Lucan. Lucan also forfeited two wins to St. Columban. Congratulations to all the St. Columban players and to the coach Tony Arts. The under 17 team will wrap the season up with a playoff tournament on Sunday, September 18 in Grand Bend. This past weekend St. Columban under 17 team travelled to Alliston for a two day tour- nament. The tournament was set up as a round robin schedule. There were four other teams so St. Columban had to , play two games on Saturday and two games on Sun- day. Each team got two points for a win and one point for a tie. In the first game St. Columban played very impressively to a 1 to 0 win. The next game was against Alliston and St. Colum- ba played to a sluggish I to 1 tie giving them three points and first place in the tour- nament after the first day. Sunday morning's game was ' against Hanover and Hanover did something that no one else has done this year and that was beat St. Columban. The score was 1 to 0. The final game was against Unionville. St. Columban played fantastic. The coach of St. Seaforth crushed by Stratford The Seaforth Tigers were crushed by Bol- Mor's Lanes in their opening season match - up by the score of 35-13. After losing the first game by four points the team was never able to gain an edge until the last game which they won by seven. Leading Bol -Mor was Dwayne, Schwantz with scores of 324, 274 and 258, and a total of 1256 for five games. Also high was Dennis Horan with 313, 236 and 233, and a total of 1189; and Tom flunking with 328, 268 total 1187. Leading the Tigers was Murray Ben- newies with scores of 320, 287 and 280 and a total of 1322: Jack Fuller also lead with 256, 251 and 249 total of 1119. In all it was still a good outing, considering no one had touched a bowling ball all summer. The next match is at home against Mike's Lanes from Stratford. untarnished Columban commented his team played like professionals. St. Columban won the game 1 to 0 on a beautiftB goal by Raymond Mur- ray, set up by Kurt Lindemann. Locals in All Ontario ball Under rainy conditions, local ball players Chris and ' Kelly Van Bakel of Brodhagen, Darren Brown of Seaforth, Paul Dohnage of Winthrop and Dan Blake of Walton, teamed up with the Wroxeter Pee Wee team to try for the All Ontario Pee Wee D Championship, held September 3 and 4 in Wroxeter. The Wroxeter team won its first game 9-8 against Tara, then fell to Lucknow by an 11-3 score. Regaining its strength it defeated St. Clements 6-4 in game three, then put out Lieury 9-8 to advance to the semi-finals. In that round Wroxeter came up .again against Lucknow, but this time retired them 9-7 from the tournament. The final game against Tamworth had two rain delays, and when finally played resulted in Tamworth taking the win, and the cham- pionship, by a 10-8 score. "We're proud of our local boys - it takes a lot of endurance to play nine hours straight in the rain. They never lost their enthusiasm, sportsmanship, 0-,r strength in the gruelling battle for the cha'npionship," commented one fan. For the effort the Wroxeter team took home a Finalist pennant, and 'each team member received a Finalist 0 • A crest. A large crowd -watched.: ' ., • excellent games on both days of the ent. Lawnbowling tournament rained out Seaforth's mixed pairs tournament was rained out on September 4 with only one game being played. Next Sunday, September 18 will be Seaforth's last tourna- ment of the season starting at 1:30 pm. A good entry is hoped for as this is the annual fowl tournament. Several ladies went to Wingham last Wednesday to ladies pairs. The rink of Edna Bell and Rika Van Bakel placed fifth. In men's pairs at Lucknow on Labor Day Neil Bell and Art Finlayson won three games and were fourth in the days events. In mixed pairs at Wingham Art and Mary Finlayson placed second with 3w plus 44 op'. Also at Clinton Sandy Pepper and Eileen Adamson won the consolation prize and Art and Mary Finlayson won fourth prize, while Bill Brown and Carol. were fifth with 2w plus 35. It has beema g weekend for bowling with weather !n the mid twenties. There are two ladies tour- naments this week - ladies trebles at Exeter on Wednesday and ladies pairs at Atwood on Thursday.
