Hensall Correspondent SUSAN HART31AN 262-2449 Registration will be held this Thursday, September 15 for Hensall Cubs, Beavers, Scouts and Venturers. Please register bet- ween 7 and 8 pm a Hensall Public School. The fee is $25 for all levels this year. Volunteers are needed to Group Commit- tees, particularly a secretary. Meetings are held once a month. Also, anyone interested in helping lead a group can call Marg Clarke at 262-2032. Horticulture News The Hensall and District Horticultural Society will be meeting on Monday September 19 at 7 pm for a potluck supper and plant exchange. The Guest Speaker will be David Steckle from Huron Ridge Acres who will talk on preparing your gardens for winter and com- posting. The United Church Women met on September 5 with a potluck supper at 7 pm. Dianne Gerstenkorn chaired the meeting. A short video was shown on the Canadian Foodgrains Bank in action in Mali. A Regional Meeting will be held in Hensall United Church on October 24 with a book display at 6:30 pm amd a sing -a -long at 7. The Guest Speaker will be Kathie Monk. The next UCW meeting will be October 3 and 8 pm with guest speaker form Sari Riding Stables in 1lderton who help han- dicapped children. Shuffleboard Scores Shuffleboard scores for Wednesday September 7. the top score of the day was Dorothy Britnall with 419 followed by Gertie Moir 382, Emma Campbell 354, Mar Consitt. 337, Bruce Watson 317 and Margaret Mole 313. Shuffling was usual next Tuesday at the Hensall Arena. Church News Dr. Ralph Topp returned as Hensall United Church organist on Sunday September 11. The senior choir un Dr. Topp's direction will practice this Thursday at 7:30 pm at the church. The junior choir practices Sunday mornings at 9:45. All children aged 8 and up are welcome. The Sunday School teachers for the ll .I t/89 year were installed. The congrega- tion met after the Worship Service in the Fellowship Hall for tea, coffee and cookies and a chance to catch up with what the church family had been doing over the sum- mer months. A bible Study group will begin on October 4 to run Tuesday mornings at 10 am. This years topic will be the Gospel of Mark. The United Church London Conference Group of Life Media will be filming a short television program at Hensall United church on Sunday, October 23. " United 4 of Hensall UCW met on September 1 for a potluck dinner. The meeting was conducted by Eva Forrest. The topic dealt with the disposal of grains to Third World countries and a film was shown. Homecraft Division The Hensall Fair Homecraft Division met on Tuesday, Setpember 6 to elect a new slate of officers for 1988/89, President - Janis In- gram, 2nd Vice President - Mary Kinsman, Secretary/Treasurer - Marlene Bell. The theme for the 1989 Fair is "Eyes on Bean's". Each Class Committee is reminded to have their Prize List prepared for the next meeting which will be held October 18 at the home of Mary Kinsman. The Homecraft Division is planning to buy material to make a quilt. Tickets will be sold as a fund raising project. Also a Bake Sale will be held on Saturday, October 29 at 10 am in Mike O'Connors store (formerly Bon- thron's Furniture) in Downton Hensall. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 468 is holding a Euchre Soocial on Saturday September 11-17. the public is invited to help the Legion celebrate this very important week with us. Adult Concert The Hensall Branch Library presents a Concert for Adults with Ted Roberts on Queensway residents make sachets Father Hayes was with Queensway residents, Tuesday morning to minister to the catholic residents. They appreciate those women from his parish who also join them for mass. In the afternoon Rev. Rodgers of the Exeter Pentecostal church led the worship service. Joyce Pepper was again volunteer pianist. On Wednesday, delightful fragrances wafted from the activity room as residents made little potpourri sachets in red and green, and also beeswax candles. Many residents attended Thursday even- ing's movie "All Star Country Music Festival". Staff never realized there were so many country and western fans. Dorothy. Elder gave several ladies manicures Friday afternoon. Those with dishpan hands were rather envious of some of these ladies' beautiful nails. The Agriculture Club met outdoors later in the afternoon. Members perused several farm publication and discussed field trips or speakers they'd like to have. It was also in- teresting to have each of the members tell when they began using tractors rather than horses. All agreed they'd seen many changes. Residents look forward to visiting the Stock Sale again next Thursday. Coming. events for September are: September 23, Trip to Huron County PIoneer Museum. HOSPITAL SHUTTERBUGS - Frances Teatero, President of the Seaforth Community Hospital Auxiliary, accepts two polaroid cameras donated to the Auxiliary by the Hospital's Board of Governors. Joan Whyte, right, Chairperson of the Hospital's Public Relations committee, made the presentation Friday. Among other things the cameras will be used to take photographs of the newborn babies at the hospital. Travellers" presents a program that draws from his large repertoire of original songs, stories and poems, 'as well as traditional songs from across Canada and around the world. His is an entertaining and infor- mative program dealing with the BNA, the building of railroads, logging, fishing and much more. Ted's humor and good nature makes this an enjoyable concert, particular- ly for adults. Admission is $1 per person. Story hour for 3,4, and 5 year-olds will resume at the Hensall Branch Library every Thursday afternoon from 1 until 2, beginning September 29. Everyone is welcome and there is no charge. This pro- gram will allow your pre-school child to en- joy stories, songs and simple crafts with other children. If you would like more infor- mation call Susan at 262-2449 or 262-2445. • People Mrs. Laird Miclde and her daughter and son-in-law, Mr,. and Mrs. MacMillan of Waterloo attended the 50th wedding an- niversary of the former's nephew and wife, Mr. and Mrs. George. Mickle of Ridgetown, on Saturday afternoon. The gathering .was held at Erie Street United Church. After- wards the Mickles were guest at a family dinner. Seventeen i last Kippen gun shoot Kippen Correspondent MRS. MARGARET HOGGARTH 262-6902 The Kippen Gun Club met on Tuesday. September 6, the final shoot of the season with 17 shooters participating. Ron Rayner topped with a 50. John Glazier and Jamie Caldwell both shot a 25 score. Bert Mahaffey and Tom Allen scored 24. Brad Mann and Jack Mills a 23. Harrison Schook - 22. Neil Voskamp, Ed Steegstra and Ken Whetham each shot 21. Lloyd Venner, Paul Mellor and Grant McGregor - 20, Jim Butcher -18, Dave Long and Al Edwards -16. The Gun Club will now be closed for ground repairs. Jamie Caldwell would like to thank all the shooters who have par- ticipated during the season and to make this another successful year. All being well, the gun club will resume on the first Tuesday in April 1989. United Church News Barbara Cooper presided at the Organ on Sunday, September 11, for the service at St. Andrews United Church in Kippen. Rev. Lorne Keays' sermon was entitled "Begun, Continued and Ended". Awards were presented to the students of the Sunday School for Attendance of 30 Sun- days or more. Rebecca Wright received a Diploma. Second year seals went to Lindsay Love and Laura Wright. Fourth year to Pam Love, fifth year to Kim Dewys, sixth year to ,Jet/Turaes,,sevegta year. to„1?,au(_Cooper, eighth year to Beverley Lefaive and Nancy Lefaive, ninth year to Dana Cooper, tenth year to Mark Cooper, Angie Faber, Jonathan Turner and Chrystal Jones. Eleventh year seals went to Candance Cooper, fifteenth year to Tricia Cooper and seventeenth year to Christine Cooper. Women's Institute The Kippen East Women's Institute will resume for the fall on Wednesday, September 21 at 8:30 am. The public rela- tions meeting will be held in Hensall United Church. Members are to bring a guest. Special speaker will be from the Friendship House in Goderich. Roll Call - bring canned goods for friendship house. Don't forget to wear your pin. Anyone Welcome.
