Kippen Gun Club shoot attracts. 20 participants

Congratulations to Shelley Finlayson on
her marriage on Saturday, August 27 to
Brian McGavin. The wedding took place in
St. Andrews Church, Kippen. Shelley is the
youngest daughter of Ruby and Laird
Finlayson of Kippen. The newlyweds will be
residing in Walton.
Mattie McGregor and Elizabeth Faber
have now returned to their homes after
spending a week in Seaforth Community
Hospital.
Al and Margaret Hoggarth attended the
Greene family picnic on Sunday, August 28,
which was held at the Lions Park in Mit-
chell. There Were about 35 members pre-
sent, coming from St. Marys, Goderich, Kit-
chener, Cambridge, Exeter, Kippen and
Mitchell.
CHURCH NEWS
Sunday services at St. Andrew's United
Church Kippen will resume on Sunday,
September 4 at 11 a.m. The Sunday school
will begin the following Sunday on
September 11.
The first fall meeting of St. Andrew's
United Church Women (U.C.W.) will start
at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13.
KIPPEN GUN CLUB
On Tuesday, August 23 the Gun Club met
at Kippen with 20 shooters taking part. Fred
Brall and Jamie Caldwell tied for top posi-
tion with 25 points each. Bob Caldwell, Dan
Crerar, Jim Butcher, Ron ,Rayner and Ed
Steegstra all received 24 points, Gordie
Glazier, Terry Caldwell, Brad Mann, Lloyd
Veneer and Grant McGregor captured 23
point scores, John Glazier scored 22 points,
Brent Dawe, Bert Mahaffey, Dave Woods
and Jeff Crawford each scored 21 points,
Bart Postma had 20 points, Paul Mellor 19,
and Harrison Schook received 18 points.
On Sunday, August 28 the Gun Club held
their 11th Annual 'Kyle Cooper Memorial
Shoot with 66 shooters participating. "A"
champ was Clarence Reid with 97 points,
runner up was Roy Galloway with 97 points,
Clarence Reid was the winner in the shoot
off. "B" champ was Bill Henderson with 95
tied with Bill Whylie, Bill Henderson was
the winner in the shoot off. "C" champ was
Grant McGregor with 87, runner up Gordie
Glazier with 86. "Veteran" champ was
Calvin Christie with Lloyd Vernier as runner
up.
The "A" championship trophy was
donated by Murray Baker Construction,
"B" championship trophy by Hyde Brothers
Limited, "C" championship trophy by Gold
Dust Targets and "Veterans" championship
trophy by the late John Anderson. The
"Veterans" runner up trophy was donated
by B and L Products.
The Kippen Gun Club wishes to thank you
everyone who helped make this shoot indeed
a memorable one.
Queensway residents learn Swiss customs,
Queensway's new daily special small
group met last Monday and reminisced and
played games. In the afternoon everyone en-
joyed a tea party followed by a sing song in
the Sunroon.
Fun and Fitness had everyone alert and
motivated Tuesday morning as they stretch-
ed their way through the exercise routine.
Rev. Sinasac was in with Phillippa Steckle
as volunteer pianist, for the worship service
in the afternoon. Residents had a lovely half
hour following the service as Rev. Sinasac
and Phillippa visited and shared the after-
noon refreshments.
The Activity Room was the scene of com-
petition Wednesday afternoon when
residents•gathered to take part in crokinole,
checkers, euchre and dominos.
Leading up to the International Day
featuring Switzerland, Thursday's movie
was "Heidi" - a wonderful film that didn't
leave too many dry eyes when it was over.
A big thank you to George Mathonia who
entertained at the monthly Birthday Party,
Thursday evening. Everyone thoroughly en-
joyed the many familiar favorites George
played on the accordian. Birthday greetings
to Edna McLellan, Irene Beamen and
Jeanette McDonald.
Friday morning Resident Council met. In
the afternoon, Switzerland was featured at
the International Day. Residents started the
afternoon with a brief introduction about the
climate, customs, and people of
Switzerland. It was interesting some
residents had family in Switzerland or had
travelled in that country. Residents found
Switzerland has three official languages,
German, French and Italian. The whole
afternoon was very enlightening as they
discussed Swiss watch making, the Swiss

banking system and their neutrality. Thank
you to Mrs. Benno Dubler of Clinton also
Elva Forrest for the Swiss artifacts.
Residents especially like the tape of Swiss
music with yodelling. The afternoon ended,

country studied - Swiss cheese and
crackers, also hot chocolate with loads of
whipped cream. A great afternoon. Goodbye

sall has been changed from Tuesday,
September 6 to Wednesday, September 7 for
that week only.

3M award
Doug Phillips, Egmondville was
presented with the 1987-88 "3M Award of Ex-
cellence" at the annual awards dinner held
in London recently.
The award is presented annually in
recognition of "Outstanding Performances
in Computer Operations". 3M is a multi-
faceted manufacturing company producing
over 50,000 different products in 49 countries
and employing over 86,000 people. Doug has
been employed with 3M Canada in the Infor-
mation Systems Department since 1984.

Linda Hartman met Worshippers at Hen-
sall United Church at the door and ushers
were Harold Parsons and Bill Stebbins.
Flowers on the Communion table were
from Jack and Marg Upshall in loving
memory of their son Kenneth.
Rev. Wright told the children the story of
how the Good Shepherd went out to search
for his lost sheep.
The sermon was "As for me and my
house."
The UCW afternoon group will meet
Thursday, September 1 at noon for a potluck
dinner. Sunday School will 'resume on Sun-
day, September 11. An Interdenominational
group will be holding a meeting in Milverton
to discuss Food, Land and Church. All are
welcome on September 29 at 8 p.m.

Joyce Fell recently received word from
the Western Ontario Conservatory of Music
that she has been successful in her piano
and violin examinations.
She received First Class Honours in
Grade 7 violin. Her violin teacher is Mrs.
Marjorie Lofft of St. Marys. She also receiv-
ed Honours in Grade 8 piano. Her piano
teacher is Mrs. Audrey Vorstenbosch of
R.R. 2 Mitchell.
Joyce is the daughter of Lorne and Helen
Fell, A.R. 2 Staffa.
Visitors on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs.
Norman Hubley at Seaforth were Mr. and
Mrs. Lloyd E. Regale of Princeton and Mr.
and Mrs. Ross Beers, Miss Cathy Beers and
grandson Adrian of Yarker, Ont.
Josh and Karen De Coo and Karen's sister
Jose of The Haughe, Holland have been
visiting with Audrey De Coo at Seaforth and
since they arrived here they have been tour-
ing Ontario.

Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Preszcator of
Crediton were recent visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Norman Hubley.
Mr. and Mrs. George Scofield of Clear-
water, Florida spent" the past week with
Chris Souter.
Douglas Wright of Kanata visitd his
mother Mrs. Gladys Wright of John Street
over the weekend. Douglas and his mother
visited relatives in Listowel on Saturday.
