BETTY MCCALL 887-6677 BANTAM TOURNAMENT The first two games of the Walton Bantam Boys second annual ball tournament were rained out on Friday evening. The sun finally shone out the next day with a much cooler day when the tournament was completed later that evening. Teams participating were Brussels, Monkton, Walserloo, Kitchener, Mitchell, Ripley, Milverton and Walton. Advancing to "B" Finals were Waterloo and Ripley with Ripley winning over Waterloo 11-1. The final game winning the "A" Final ended with a good game with Brussels winning a close 3-2 over Kitchener. SQUIRT TOURNAMENT The Walton Squirt Tournament is schedul- ed for this coming weekend, with the first games to start at 7 p.m. Friday evening Walton will play with Auburn at 8:15 p.m., with games to follow all day Saturday. W.LNOTES The Walton Women's Institute is busy making plans for the celebration of the 50 years for the Community Hall to be held on Friday evening, August 19. I had a most in- teresting call from George Weisenberg last week who inform&d me he was one of the or- chestra members that played at the opening 50 years ago - in fact he formed the band - and I'm sure we will hear from some of these members that evening. George said they called themselves The Huron Corn Huskers. He could play the violin, guitar and piano and was the first one to call off for a square dance. Emmerson Mit- chell is recuperating at a cottage with Jack and Luella Mitchell after his stay in hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lundy of Hamilton, spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Allan McCall. The family of Carl and Eleanor Hem- ingway gathered at the home of Jim and Ruth Axtmann, Walton, to honour their parents on their 53rd wedding anniversary. They enjoyed swimming followed by a smorgasbord supper and the couple were presented with lovely gifts. Cranbrook couple enjoys trip Cranbrook Correspondent MRS. Seaforth scored an insurance run in the seventh to make the final score 8-5 in its favor. Mitcheimore started on the mound for Seaforth, giving up four runs on three hits, walking three batters and striking out one. Coombs pitched the remaining four innings, giving up one run on three hits, walking one batter and striking out four. Seaforth scored its eight runs on seven hits, struck out five times, walked four times, made two errors and left five men on base. Walkerton scored five runs on six hits, struck out five times, walked four times, committed three errors and left seven men on base. SEAFORTH-WALKERTON6 Seaforth kept its momentum going into game two, and scored three times in the first inning to take an early lead. Coombs led off the inning with a single, Bedard reached base on an error, and Williamson sacrificed the runners to second and third. Bedard singled in that inning, stole se- cond and scored on a single by Mitchehnore to make the score 4-0 for Seaforth. Walkerton scored in its half of the fifth to narrow the gap somewhat, then scored five more times in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead go- ing into the last inning. Seaforth snapped back in the seventh inn- ing with four runs. Driscoll and Aubin both singled, Coombs reached base on an error, and Bedard and Mitchelmore hit con- secutive singles to round out the scoring. Walkerton failed to score in the bottom of the inning. Seaforth's Eisler went 41/2 innings, giving up one run on four hits, walking six batters and striking out one, Bedard pitched 11 inn- ings, giving up five runs on two hits and walking four. Coombs wound up the pit- ching, striking out one batter and allowing no runs on three hits. Seaforth scored its eight runs on nine hits, struck out five times, walked once, commit- ted three errors and left five men on base, "Winning five of our last six games has really given our team a lift and we're play- ing with a lot of confidence," said Coach ENGAGEMENT Bob & Ruth Campbell of Winthrop are pleas- ed to announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter Lisa to Martin to Brinke, soh of Henry & the late Gerde to Brinke of Clin- ton.
