Seaforth Merchants on winning streak
The Seaforth Merchants Senior Men's
Hardball team was successful in three of its
four outings last week, bringing its win -loss -
tie record to 11, 10 and one, with two games
• left in the regular season.
SEAFORTH 10- LISTOWEL 0
In the first outing last Tdesday the Mer-
chants mercied their Listowel opponents
10-0. Pitcher Del Mitchelmore took the win
in five easy innings, giving up only three hits
and striking odt five batters. Only one batter
was walked.
Seaforth was equally strong at the plate,
scoring 10 runs on 10 hits. Darren Crocker,
Don Williamson and Marty Bedard con-
tributed two hits each with Jim Campbell,
Scott Driscoll, John Cairns, Ray Anstett and
Mitchelmore pulling up the slack.
Merchant players struck out three times,
were walked four times and left eight men
on base. They committed no errors inothe
field.
WALKERTON 8-SEAFORTH 5
On Wednesday the Merchants were less
successful, losing a dose 8-5 battle to
Walkerton.
Starting pitcher Anstett went three inn-
ings on the mound, before Driscoll gave him
some relief in the fourth. Anstett gave up
two runs on three hits, struck out two bat-
terS and walked two batters. In his three in-
nings on the mound Driscoll gave up six
runs on five hits, walked two batters and
struck out two.
Hitters for Seaforth were Mitchelmore
with two and Marc Robinet, Williamson,
Bedard and Joe Aubin each with one.
Seaforth scored its five runs on six hits,
struck out four times, left six men on base,
and made four error§.
Walkerton scored eight runs on eight hits,
struck out four times, walked four times,
made seven errors and left seven men on
base.
Sunday was a more profitable day for the
Merchants when they won both games of a
doubleheader played against Walkerton in
Walkerton.
SEAFORTH 8-WALKERTON 3
Although Walkerton took the initial lead
when it scored one run in the bottom of the
first inning, the lead was shortlived.
Seaforth countered with four runs in the se-
cond inning.
Mitchelmore and Robinet led off the inn-
ing with singles. Cairns was safe at first on a
fielder's choice and Mitchelmore went to
third. Anstett walked next to load the bases
before Gary Eisler singled to score two
runs. Aubin then struck out but reached

base when the catcher couldn't handle the
ball. Anstett scored on the play and Eisler
went to third and, eventually scored when•
Clendon Coombs reached base on a fielder's
choice.
Walkerton was scoreless in the second but
managed to tie the game with three runs in
the third.
Seaforth went ahead in their half of the
fourth when Robinet walked, Cairns
sacrificed him to second and then Eisler
singled him home for a 5-4 advantage. But
that lead was shortlived too, when Walker-
ton again tied the game in their half of the
inning.

Seaforth Golf Course green again
My apologies to all you "On The Greens"
' fans who enquired where my column was
last week. Actually the week was so hectic
and with the long weekend added in, I just
forgot all about the newspaper until the
deadline was long gone. Many things have
been happening at the course so I'll gladly
bring you up to date.
First of all, it's green again! The course
has returned to its emerald state and
although the roll is gone, golf is easier on the
feet and more pleasing to the eye. Hopefully
the rain will come more often in August and
September...but not too often!
Last Saturday, July 30, our fourth annual
Mad Hackers' Tee Party was held. This is a
mixed couples event with each player play-
ing their own ball and total score counting.
The total handicaps are deducted for net
scores. There were 88 golfers taking part.
Who would have thought that during the
driest summer in 40 years we'd have a two
hour rain delay! Everyone became
thoroughly soaked and because of nearby
lightning the clubhouse was like a beehive.
However, in true golfing spirit all but three
couples completed their game. The winning
couple was Roger and Ann Adams from our
own club with a total score of 158. Low net
winners were Marjorie Galloway and Ernie
Tierney from Kitchener with a 'net 127.
Other winners were: 2nd low gross:
Carolanne and Todd Doig, 165 Seaforth; 3rd

Because of the extreme heat and humidity
along with the holiday Monday the seniors,
ladies, juniors and men's nights had poor
turn outs, but hopefully the enthusiasm will
perk up, when the temperature goes down.
This Friday is couples night with tee -off
between 6 and 6:30 p.m. There will be lunch
available afterwards. Friday afternoon
Boiler Smith will hold a small tournament
beginning at 2:30. August 16 is the Junior In-
vitation and that evening our ladies are in-
vited to Mitchell's fun night. -
