Local lawnbowlers gear up
for anniversary tournament
Seaforth Greens were filled on Sunday
afternoon for the Lorne Dale Memorial
Tournament. Mel Brady was draw master
for the day and ladies president Mary
Finlayson welcomed all present on behalf of
Thelma Dale who donated a special prize to
the winner of the day. -
The winning team was Jack Priestly and
Muriel McKim of Dresden with 3w-40 op".
Second place went to Elmer Murray and
Audrey Walsh of Clinton with 3w-46. In
third place was the Exeter team of Ernie
Chipchase and Isobel Rodgerson with
3w-40. Fourth prize went to John Hill and
partner of Aylmer with 3w-39. George and
Darlene Woods were high two game winners
with 2w-44 op' and Jack and Marie Muir
were close behind with 2w-44. Seventh
went to Wes Watson and Ethel Fairbarn of
the Thistle Club of London with 2w-43 dp'.
Eighth prize went to Tom and Mary Ellen
Emery of the Fairmont Club, London with
2w-43 dp', and ninth was Neil find Edna
Bell with 2w-42. Consolation prize went to
Lloyd and Evelyn Dundas, also of the Fair-
mont Club, London with a score of 22 in their
last game. The weather was ideal for this
tournament and everyone reported a good
day of bowling and hospitality.
The greens are filled with a double draw
for the anniversary tournament on August
24, commencing at 10:30 a.m. Already a
number of prizes have been donated by
members and associates. Edna Bell, social
convenor, plaits to meet with her committee
on Monday afternoon following bowling to
plan for the food for that day. One hundred
and forty-four bowlers will be competing
throughout the day and the ladies will be
serving lunch at noon with a salad plate at
suppertime. Donations of prizes or money
and items of groceries may be left with Art
and Mary Finlayson, Neil and Edna Bell,
Fred and Betty Tilley, and Katie Phillips, or
at the Club House during bowling hours.
It was nice to see some new bowlers tak-
ing part in Sunday's tournament and they
are wished good bowling in the future.
The ladies Seniors Provincial trebles were
played for District 4 at the Seaforth Greens
on Thursday, August 4. The winning rink
was from Mitchell with Helen Haynes (skip)
Mary Higgins (vice) and Frances Tuer
(lead). They will now go to Brampton to
compete in the Ontario finals September 7
and 8.
During the week, tournaments at Clinton
and Atwood were cancelled due to the ex-
treme hot weather.
One of Clinton's ardent and long time
bowlers passed away last week, namely
Bert Gray, The sympathy of all our
members go out to this wife Jean at this
time.

VS CKNX-WINGHAM in a ball game at the
Optimist Park on August 16 at 7:30 p.m. The
admission is a donation at the gate with pro-
ceeds going to Joey Philion. Joey is a severe
burn victim from Orillia who is in Shriner's
burn unit, Boston. Come out have fun, and
help Joey!!
There is an important meeting tonight of
the Seaforth and District MINOR HOCKEY
ASSOCIATION starting at 7:30 p.m. at the
arena. This meeting will deal with the up-

BALL, BALL, BALL. The Seaforth Op-
timist is hosting a Slo-Pitch Tournament
this weekend, August 12, 13 and 14 at both
the Lions Park and the Optimist Park. The
first games of the tournament begin on Fri-
day night — 7:30 p.m. at the Optimist Park
and 8 p.m. at the Lions Park. This plans to
be an enjoyable weekend so come out and
cheer on your favorite team.
The Seaforth and District Community
Centres brings you "WHEELS, WHEELS,
WHEELS" (street rods, antique cars, 4 x 4's
bikes), on Sunday, August 21, 1988 from
noon - 8 p.m. at the Seaforth arena. There
will be door prizes and draws with admis-
sion into the show.
