Residents are admiring the lovely flowers
of the african violet plants which adorn the
lounges of Maplewood. The plants were
given to Maplewood by Gerald Groothiers
who grows the flowers in his greenhouse.
Everyone thanks him for his generosity.
On Monday and Tuesday afternoon,
residents enjoyed playing their favorite
games of bridge and euchre.
Wednesday was a busy day at Maplewood.
After lunch residents as well as other
seniors of the .community awaited the ar-
rival of the nurses from the health unit for
footcare. Everyone is truly grateful for the
service that they provide and always look
forward to their return.
Bridge players were delighted to have
Huffing at Se
Monday morning Fun and Fitness started
the day in activity room, the scene of lots of
huffing and puffing.
In the afternoon euchre was played.
Tuesday morning the residents had a
game of ball with a sponge bat and everyone
wanted to play. Even Bill Scott who remark-
ed he used to play ball.
Wednesday euchre was played. It has
beep so humid, residents just want to keep
cool.
Thursday afternoon. Gladys Van Egmond
on piano, Elgin Nott on violin, and Stephen
on mouth organ, played some old tyme
• music for toe tappin' and hand clappin'.
Lunch was served with ice lemon aide to
quench the thirst. Friday morning exercises
were held in the activity room and the after-
noon was spent playing bingo.
PERSONAL
Alice was out for a day with daughter
Dorothy Uniac. Ben went home and had a
visit with Ed and son Jim.
Syd Scrogg visited his mother Madge
Remes. Shiela Morton visited Norma Jef-
fery. Geraldine Wilson and Mary Marg
Maloney visited their mother Mary K.
Nettie Rose, a former resident of
Maplewood, join them for a special game of
bridge on Wednesday afternoon.
Wednesday evening, residents moved out-
doors to enjoy a delicious barbecue supper.
Kitchen staff were kept quite busy at the
grill to keep up with the hearty appetites of
the residents. Everyone had a very en-
joyable times as the weather was perfect for
this
Friday morning Gail Hills visited
Maplewood and was in chairge of the Bingo.
The lucky winners were Willy Tremeer, Ed
Johns, Elsie Shaddick and visitors
Elizabeth Faber and Chris Dalton.

Peter, Jane and Patty Spittal visited Inez
Spittal. Mable Handy celebrated her birth-
day Thursday with several visitors.
Daughters: Marg Garrett, Bayfield, and
Gladys Van Egmond, Clinton. Mable's
granddaughter Norma, tap danced for her
and her husband Delford Altman and
children from Orangeville. They also visited
grandparents Dave and Eva Netzke. Dr.
Stapleton visited Norma Jeffery and Mary
K. Ryan had a nice visit. Mrs. Orr and
daughter from Michigan were visiting Eve
Cardno and many other residents.
HARRY PALIN of Seaforth celebrates his
90th birthday on August fifth. Mr. Palin
came to Canada from England in 1924, and
farmed on the fourth concession of
McKillop Township until his retirement in
1962 when he and his late wife Elenor mov-
ed to his current residence on Main Street
North. Mr. Palin has two sons, Bob and
Jim, who also live in Seaforth, and has five
grandchildren and two great-

BRAD FOR DERWYN HODGINS
MERCHANDISING MANAGER: Bradley Ford, currently Walton Branch
Manager will become Merchandising Manager, effective August 1, 1988. His
major responsibilities will be the planning and development of all Crop Input
programs, including Feed Merchandising, as well as the supervision of the
Company's Agri -Sales Staff.
WALTON BRANCH MANAGER: Derwyn Hodgins, presently Agri -Salesman
at Centralia Branch will become Walton Branch Manager, effective August
1, 1988. In his new position, he will be responsible for the successful opera-
tionn of the Walton Branch, but more particularly, ensuring a continuation of
a high level of Customer Service in the Walton area.
These appointments reflect a continuation of Cook's desire to promote from
within the Company, while at the same time, meeting the needs of agriculture
in our trading area.
HAROLD CUNNINGHAM
Harold Cunningham of Hallett Township
died on Thursday, July 28, 1988 at the Clin-
ton Public Hospital. He was 94.
Husband of the former Annie Garrett;
also survived by nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held at the Tasker
Funeral Home, Blyth Ontario, Saturday. In-
terment Colborne Cemetery.
GEORGE W. CARTER
George Carter, a former Hullett
Township farmer, died at Huronview on
July 27. He was 94.
Mr. Carter was born in Hallett Township
on June 18, 1894. He was a member of the
Londesboro United Church. He was hus-
band to the late Edith Campbell and the
son of the late Wm. Carter and Elizabeth
Campbell.
He is survived by his son Glen and his
wife Doreen of Londesboro and his
daughter Beryl (Mrs. Watson Reid) of
Blyth.
Also surviving are his grandchildren,
Cathy and Kevan Broome; Larry and Col-
leen Carter; David Reid; Colleen Carter;
Donna and Harry Arts; and Daniel Reid.
The surviving great grandchildren are
Wade and Adam Broome and Tonya
Carter,
Mr. Carter was predeceased by his
brother Charles and his sisters Irene
Mackenzie and Myrtle.
He rested at the Ball and Falconer
Funeral Home and the service was held at
the Wesley Willis United Church with Rev.
James Bechtel officiating.
The pallbearers were his grandsons
David Reid, Dan Reid, Harry Arts, Larry
Carter, Kevan Broome and nephew, Alvin
McDonald.
James Howatt, Robert ;ardiner, Ralph
McNichol and Harry Ti bbutt were the
flower bearers.
Interment in Clinton Cemetery.
DOREEN BAIRD
A. Doreen Baird of RR 1 Brucefield died
on Friday, July 29, 1988 at her residence,
She was 69.
Mrs. Baird was the wife of the late
Thoma St^wart Baird, and the mother of
Orrin .1 Marjorie of Oshawa, Gerald of
RR 1 Brucefield, and Dianne and Steven
Cook of Brucefield. Sister of Olive (Mrs.
Grant Love) of Caro Michigan, Beatrice
(Mrs. Robert Dalrymple) of Brucefield,
Duncan and Coreen Cooper of Kippen, and
John and Grace Cooper of Kippen. She is
also survived by five grandchildren.
She was predeceased by 2 brothers,
Morley and Lloyd Cooper, and one sister
Grace (Mrs. Edgar McBride)
Friends were received at the Beattie
Funeral Home in Clinton on Sunday, July 31,
1988. Funeral service was held on Monday,
August 1, 1988 at the Brucefield United
Church with Reverend Lorne Keays of-
ficiating. Burial was at Bairds Cemetery.
Memorial donations to the Canadian
Cancer Society would be appreciated as ex-
pressions of sympathy.
CLARA JANE PRETTY
Clara Jane (MacKay) Pretty of Seaforth
died at Queensway nursing home in Hensall
on Monday, August I, 1988. She was 94.
She was the wife of the late Harry H. Pret-
ty; Mother of Mary (Mrs. Carmon
Rowcliffe) of Seaforth, Ruth and Pat
Goyette of London, Phyllis and Dean
Aldwinekle of RR 1 Varna, Wilma and Bob
Tugwood of London, and Alan and Wilma
Pretty of Sarnia. She had 24 grandchildren,
23 great-grandchildren, and one great -
great -grandchild.
She was predeceased by one daughter
Shirley (Mrs. Gordon Wright), one great -
great -grandchild, four sisters and three
brothers.
'Friends were received at the Ball and
Falconer "Box Funeral Chapel", Seaforth
on Tuesday. Funeral service will be held at
the funeral home on Wednesday, August 3 at
2:00. Interment Maitland Bank Cemetery.
Memorial donations to the Seaforth Com-
munity Hospital or to the Town and Country
Homemakers would be appreciated as ex-
pressions of sympathy.

MALONEY-JANMAAT
Colleen Maloney of Seaforth and Ron Jan-
maat of RR 2 Seaforth were married Satur-
day, July 30, 1988 at St. James Roman
Catholic Church in Seaforth by Reverend J.
C. Caruana. The bride is the daughter of
Ken and Madelon Maloney, and the groom is
the son of John and Mary Janmaat. Matron
of honor was Kathy Binnendyk, sister of the
bride, and other attendants were friends
Patricia Hackwell, Julie Kinsmen, Mary -Jo
Nelson, Cheryl Campbell and the bride's
niece Jennifer Binnendyk. Ted Janmaat
was the. best man, and ushers were Paul
Janmaat of London, and John Janmaat of
RR 2 Seaforth, all brothers of the groom.
Friends Steve Van Doornik and Steve
Jansen were also ushers. The organist at the
ceremony was Mary Elizabeth Kreutzwiser,
and Jeannette Connolly was the soloist.
Following a reception at the Seaforth
District Community Centres the couple took
a wedding trip to Hawaii for two weeks. The
couple will reside at RR 2 Sea forth. Phillips -

Thomas Adrian Francis, born July 14, 1988,
at Clinton Public Hospital, weighing 8 lbs.,

Shelly Dale and Mark McKellar exchang-
ed vows at the Northside United Church,
Seaforth, on July 16, 1988. The ceremony
was performed by Reverend James Bechtel
of Clinton. The bride is the daughter of Ron
and Lorraine Dale of Seaforth, and the
groom is the son of Laurie and. Helen
McKellar of RR 2 Staffa. Maid of honor at
the wedding was Laurie Smith of Seaforth,
and bridesmaids were Suzanne McKellar of
RR 2 Staffa and Brenda Konarski of RR 1
Blyth. Stacy Dale was the flowergirl and
Curtis Dale was the ringbearer. Bill Hulley
of Mitchell acted as groomsman, and ushers
were Ron Dale of Westbranch, Michigan
and Grant McKellar of RR 2 Staffa. The
reception was held at the Seaforth Legion,
and the married couple will now reside on

Clifford C. Hunt and Audrey of London
visited with his sister Edith Vincent over the
holdiday weekend. Mr. Hunt also visited

home from the Seaforth Hospital.
