Members of the Cranbrook Women's In-
stitute and their families, enjoyed a pool
party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Clark in Stratford on Sunday, July 17. The
weather was nearly perfect for swimming,
sunbathing or sitting in the shade so
everyone worked up a good appetite for the
pot luck supper. All are grateful to Marilyn
and Jack for their hospitality.
Garnet.Starr, Chatham, his daughter Lori
and friend from Kitchener visited on Sunday
with Don and Mrs. Cotton.
Visiting Mrs. Mac Engel during the past
week were Edith King and son Kenneth and
wife of Brantford, and Mrs. Jack Clark,
Stratford.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Gensheimer, Offen-
bach, West Germany are spending a while
at their house here and visiting relatives
and friends in the area.

Martha and Sandra Claessens returned
home recently from a three week' holiday in
Holland, where they visited with Matt and
Martha Claessens' relatives. While there
they attended celebrations for two of Mar-
tha's sisters and brothers-in-law who were
celebrating their twenty-fifth wedding
anniversaries. '

The Walton Women's Institute meeting
was held on Wednesday evening, July 20 in
the hall when members and guests were
present.
Marion Godkin presided for the opening
Ode, Mary Stewart Collect and 0 Canada
and Marjory Humphries as pianist. Marion
welcomed everyone then read poems on
Canning Tomatoes.
Marjory Humphries read minutes and
reported on the car tour held in June;
• followed by the financial report of $304.42 on
hand. The roll call was well answered from
members giving a current event from a
foreign country.
The meeting was now turned over to con-
veners, Viola Kirkby who read quite a few
humorous quotations, then had Jean Bewley
show slides on her recent trip to China. Jean
gave a most complete commentary of the
trip with interesting pictures of the country
and the Chinese way of life. Viola thanked
her and presented a gift of money on behalf
of the Institute.
Lunch was served in the basement to as
many as could stay by hostesses Berva Wat-
son and Maxine Marks.
Business followed with Marion giving a
report of the music night she had attended in
Brussels recently. A supper will be served
on Friday, August 5 to those attending the
Blyth Festival later.
Plans are well on the way for a celebra-
tion of 50 years for the Walton Community
Hall on August 19. The Walton Area Sports
Committee will host the barbecue. Institute
members will have a variety show for an
hour starting at 7:30 p.m. A dance will
follow at 9 p.m. till 12 with. Tiffin's or-
chestra. Tickets are available from several
of the members.
It was moved Mary Humphries would look
after the renting out of the cake pans and the
coffee urn. Insurance on the hall was
discussed with more information to be
brought back to the next meeting.
In September the regular meeting will be
held Wednesday the 21st with the luncheon
moved to the next week, September 28.
Marion closed the meeting with a poem,
My Most Embarrassing Moment.
CELEBRATE BIRTHDAYS
Sunday afternoon 50 relatives and
friends attended a barbecue at the home of
Volker and Shirley Hertlein in London to
honor the latter's mother Ruth Thamer on
her birthday.
Dropping in to surprise Allan McCall on
his birthday Saturday evening were Jim
and Effie McCall; John and Clara Petrie;
Harry Snell; Ben Stevenson, Ron and
Chris. He also received several cards and
ohone calls.
Knights of Columbus honor guard

The Knights of Columbus, 4th degree of
the Monsignor D.J. Egan Assembly,
Seaforth, were the honor guard at the Por-
tuguese Festival which honored Our Lady of
Fatima and the Holy Spirit at St. Joseph's
Raman Catholic Church in Listowel on
Sunday.
Members Jerry Murray, Lewis and
Shirley Kraemers, Don and Eileen MacRae
from Dublin as well as knights from Clinton,
Stratford, Blyth and Listowel and their
wives attended.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Delaney and girls Jayne
and Lucille have returned from a much en-
joyed eight-day holiday touring Ireland. The
