The first game, however, played last

Seaforth as they defeated Strathroy for the
first time this season, by a 10-8 score.

Graham Nesbitt.
They came one run closer in the fourth
when Cairns was hit by a pitch, stole second,
then scored after the Strathroy catcher
threw the ball into left field when he was at-
tempting to, steal third.
Seaforth had a successful fifth inning and
by the time the dust settled had scored six
runs and taken a 10-5 lead. It began ,when
Akey was hit by a pitch, Nesbitt doubled to
put runners on second and third and Clendon
Coomi. ' reached first on an error to load the
bases. Bedard then reached base on an er-
ror to score Akey, Cairns was hit by a pitch
to score Nesbitt, and Campbell was safe on a
fielder's choice to score Commbs. Anstett
singled to score Bedard and Cairns, and Mit-
chelmore singled to score Campbell.
Strathroy scored three times in the sixth
inning to narrow the gap, but was unable to
close it completely before time ran out.
Coombs pitched seven innings for the
Merchants, allowing eight runs on 14 hits
and w lking one batter.
Seaforth scored its 10 runs on six hits,
struck out six times and walked' once. The
Merchants made two errors and left seven

Seaforth ladies win Clinton
lawnbowling pairs competition
Local lawn bowlers have been active at
the local greens and also in out of town
tournaments.
Four teams of ladies bowled in ladies
pairs at Clinton last Tuesday. Winning the
tournament were Olive Papple (lead) and
Mary Finlayson (skip) with 3 w plus 44 o/p'.
In second place was Carol Carter and Edna
Bell with 3 w plus 42. Third place went to
Eileen Adamson and Jean Lunn 'with 2 w
plus 37 o/p'°. Rinks were present from Lon-
don, Atwood; Mitchell, Clinton, Seaforth,
Goderich and Lucknow.
On Wednesay, a number of Seaforth
bowlers participated in the annual
Newcombe family trophy tournament. High
scores for the day were held by Art and
Mary Finlayson with 3 w plus 48 o/p5. Walter
presented them with miniature trophies and
also their names will go on the plaque. Last
year's winners were Neil and Edna Bell of
Seaforth and Ari and Mary also were win-
ners in 1985. Fred and Betty Tilley were
third this year with 3 w plus 45 o/p'°, being
tied with Jack and Mary Fisher of Lucknow.
Brussels had to cancel their mixed trebles
tournament on Saturday due to rain.
A number of men bowlers plan to bowl this
week in W.O.B.A. at London. It goes from
July 24 to 29 at all three London Greens and
attracts bowlers from all over Ontario and
U.S.
The ladies are hosting a ladies pairs tour-
nament on Thursday with pot luck dinner.
They have a good entry from out of town so
are looking forward to a successful day.
Tuesday evening will be pot luck supper at
6 p.m. and bowling or cards after. We are
glad to hear Sam Phillips is feeling some
better, also Gordon Papple.
Evening Jitneys have been very well at-
tended this past month and nice to see new
bowlers out.

The Seaforth and District Community
Centre presents a special ROLLER-
SKATING NIGHT - tonight (Wednesday, Ju-
ly 27) from 8 to 11 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m.
Come rollerskate to live Iulic by Sceptre.
Sceptre is a local band,.just back from a suc-
cessful

tals. Don't miss this exciting evening. Next
regular rollerskating will be held Friday,
August 5 from 7 to 10 p.m.
The Van Egmond Foundation will be
hosting a COUNTRY BREAKFAST on Sun-
day, July 31 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Van
Egmond House. The menu includes: eggs,
oacon, wast, jam, muffins, pancakes,
sausage, juice & coffee. Admission fee is
$4. for adults and $2 for children under 12.
Children under 5 are free. Come enjoy good
country cooking.
The Seaforth and District MINOR
HOCKEY ASSOCIATION will be having a
very important meeting on Wednesday,
August 10 starting at 7:30 p.m. This meeting
will deal with the upcoming season.
The Seaforth LIONS POOL will close at 7
p.m. tonight, due to an examiners clinic.
There will be regular public swimming m
the afternoon, but public swimming will be
held from 6 to 7 p.m. in the evening.
