Dublin activities blessed by weather

Sunny skies blessed the activities at
Dublin on Saturday. The events started off
with a pancakes, sausage and eggs
breakfast sponsored by the Cromarty Boy
Scouts and their leaders helping with the
supervision of the cooking well done by the
boys.
There were 26 tables of toys displayed in
the community centre for the 1st Lions Club
Toy Show. Exhibitors from Mitchell,
Dublin, Seaforth, ' Brampton, Listowel,
Brucefield, Teeswater, Palmerston, Strat-
ford, Kitchener and Formosa were on hand
to show, sell, buy or just talk toys with
anyone who stopped by. Approximately 400
people attended the event.
There were six door prizes donated by
area businesses, with Liz Fleming, Dublin;.
Mary Anne Verberne, Dublin; Dave Adams,
Brussels; Jamie McCabe, Goderich;
Carolynn Rimmelzwaan, Hensall, and Glen-
da Lamrnerant of Blyth the winners.
Trophies were given out to four different
categories of the Toy Show. They were, Best
Commercial Display, Vincent's Farm
Equipment, Seaforth; Best Farm Toy Col-
lection, John and Dan Benninger, Formosa;
Best Farm Scene Display, Warren and Kyle
Bennewies, RR 5 Seaforth; and Best Toy
Collection (other than farm toys), Roy
Elliott, Mitchell.
In the children's pedal pull, held' on the ce-
ment pad at the school, their were 29 par-
ticipants in three weight classes. The three
winners were: Craig Marriott, Dublin;
Derek Maloney, RR 5 Seaforth; and Kyle
Bennewies, RR 5 Seaforth. They received
trophies for their efforts and each partici-
pant received a loonie coin. Approximately
50 spectators cheered them on.
Following that, a parade of approximate-
ly 40 decorated bikes and hikes was held.
Each one of these participants was also
presented with a loonie coin on behalf of the
Lions Club. A smoked pork chop barbecue
and a dance was also held Saturday.
Sympathy of the community goes out to

"Unity in Christ" was the message in the
sermon given by Rev. Bonnie Lamble.
The beautiful flower arrangements at the
front entrance and inside the church were
from the vedding Saturday evening of Dar-
ryl Hoegy and Ruthan McIntosh.
The church will be closed during the
month of August. At present there are
repairs being done to the roof and steeple
along with the chimney.
ATTEND CONFERENCE
Danny Glanville, Ron Stevenson and
Leanne Dolmage from Walton, and area
were among the 4-H members from Huron
County who attended the 1988 Regional Con-
ference at Centralia College Agricultural
Technology, Huron Park for 3 days last
week.
OPEN MEETING
Just a reminder the Walton Women's In-
stitute open meeting is this Wednesday
evening when pictures will be shown on
China. Come and bring your neighbor at
8:15 p.m.

day where they spent the day with Elva
Shortreed at her cottage.
Andy Smith, Springfield, Illinois visited
with his cousin Chris Stevenson on the
weekend.
Joanne Clarke, Wendy and Rodney called
on Isabelle Shortreed one day recently.
Ruth Thamer spent the weekend with
Ruthie Thamer at their trailer at Klondike
Park, Grand Bend. Kim and John Thamer
visited with his mother Sunday evening.
Kendra Shortreed spent a night last week
with her friend Marci McCall following a
ball game at Winthrop Park.

Tuesday, July 12 was Dave Woodward, the
six game winner, with 434. Dorothy Brint-
nell was next with a score of 369 followed by
Allan Haw 361 and Marg Consitt 332.

Guest organist at Hensall United Church
on Sunday was Ralph Topp, The children's
story was all about how God loves us.
Throughout the summer months there will
be a Junior Congregation during worship
time for children 3 to 10 years of age,
Donna St. John sang the touching solo
"Amazing Grace" and Reverend Doug
Wright's sermon was "Travel Light".
Dorothy Corbett greeted worshippers and

The Smith families held their annual pic-
nic on July 10 at the Saugeen Conservation
Area with over 75 attending.
A former Grey Twp. resident, Alf King
died on Monday, July 11 in Brantford. Mrs.
King is the former Edith Smalldon,
daughter or we late starry amanuon and
Mary Brown. The funeral took place in
Brantford on Thursday, July 14.
Many in this area attended the Bignell -
Knight wedding in Knox Presbyterian
Church on Friday, July 15 at 6:30 pm and the
reception which followed in Atwood.
The Brussels ball team of.which Jennifer
and Jolanda Vanass are members took part
in a tournament at Moorefield on July 9 and
won the Consolation Trophy.

Mrs. Terry Ward of Monkton visited a few
days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Mc-
Clure and Amy at RR 2 Seaforth.
Cathy Ward of Staffa entertained at a bir-
thday party ',for her daughter Jennifer.
