ANNIE RULE
90 years young
Annie Rule (nee Peck), wife of the late
Stanley Rule, celebrated her 90th birthday
Saturday, July 9, 1988 at the home of ' her
daughter Daisy Barraclough. Mrs. Bar
raciough lives on the corner of Queen and
Main Streets, Egmondville.
Many of Mrs. Rule's children and grand-
children were present on thespecial occa-
sion. Five great grandchildren, the Mounts
of Varna, who call themselves the "Brass
Bunch", played "Happy Birthday" for their
great grandmother. •
Mrs. Rule came to Canada from England
as one of Dr. Barnardo's children at the age
of 13. She went to Belleville as a mother's
helper and later moved to Toronto. She and
her husband were married in Toronto on
May 5, 1920. They had 12 children, eight of
whom are still living. They include: Jean
Stonehouse of Toronto, Stanley Rule of
Thornbury, Jack Rude of Holmesville, Daisy
Barraclough of Egmondville, Hugh Rule of
Thornbury, George Rule of Sault Ste. Marie,
Harry Rule of Sault Ste. Marie and Ernie
Rule of California. A daughter, Dorothy Gib-
son, died in 1956 and a son, Murray Rule,
died in July 1987. Two other children died in
infancy.
Mrs. Rule also has 34 grandchildren, 45
great grandchildren and three great great
grandchildren. She now lives at Queensway
Nursing Home in Hensall.

LAVINA KELLY or Seaforth celebrated her
90th birthday on July 5, 1988. Mrs. Kelly
has three children: Ron of Stratford, Cliff of
Brockville, and Eldora Cunningham of Bar-
rie. Her eldest son Carl passed away on
September 8, 1985. Mrs. Kelly is originally
from Stratford, but has lived in Seaforth for
the past 20 years. She has a sister, Anna
Feltz of Mitchell, and the two are the only
surviving children of 10 in their family. Cor-

MALLEN - George and Tracy Mallen (nee
Baker) are happy to announce the birth of
Andrew Garfield, a brother for Spencer, at
St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto on July 8,
1988. Proud grandparents are Gar and Carol
Baker, Harpurhey. Great grandmother is
Sadie Hart of Stratford.
MALONE - Mandy would like to announce
the long awaited arrival of her new sister,
Megan Catherine, born July 4, 1988 at
Seaforth Community Hospital, weighing 7
lbs., 6 ozs. Proud parents are Pat and Deb.
Spoiling privileges go to grandparents Don
and Catherine Dupee.
MILTON - Ralph, Anne and Paul are thrill-
ed to announce the safe arrival of their baby
boy, Marc William Dale, weighing 8 lbs., 1
oz. on July 6 at Stratford General Hospital.
Proud grandparents are Clarissa Stewart of
Seaforth and Ross and June Milton of New
Hamburg.
SMITH - Clare and Steve Smith of Mitchell
are pleased to announce the birth of their
daughter, Karen Michelle, 8 lbs., 1 oz. on Ju-
ly 6 in Stratford General Hospital. A sister
for Heather. Proud grandparents are Betty
and Art Devereaux, Seaforth and Joan and
John Smith of Mitchell.
VAN BAKEL - Casey and Helen Van Bakel
are happy to announce the birth of the'
daughter Angela Mary. Angela was born
June 25 at Stratford General Hospital and
weighed 8 lbs., 14 ozs. She is a sister for
Michael, Melissa and Shawn, Proud grand-
parents are John and Mary Devlin of Strat-
ford and Martha Van Bakel of Dublin.
I PEOPLE
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Hubley holidayed
with Mr. and Mrs. Harold McCallum at their
cottage "Shady Nook" at Manitoulin Island
where Mrs. Hubley took a severe heart at-
tack and was confined to Mindemoya
Hospital.

OBITUARIES
FRANCIS VERNON CRICH
Francis (Frank) Vernon Crich of Huron -
view and formerly of Harpurhey and
Tuckersmith Township, died Saturday, Ju-
ly 9, 1 ' at Huronview. He was 92.
Born in Tuckersmith Township on Oc-
tober 26, 1895 he was a son of the late
Herbert Crich and Sarah Townsend. He
married the former Myrtle Rogerson and
they farmed in Tuckersmith Township un-
til 1958, when they moved to Harpurhey.
Following their move Mr. Crich worked at
the Boshart Furniture Factory. He was
also the custodian at the First
Presbyterian Church for nine years. Mr.
Crich was a veteran of the First World
War. •
He is survived by several nieces and
nephews, and was predeceased by his
wife, four sisters, Elma (Mrs. Roy Pep-
per), Nettie (Mrs. Robert Doublap), Peal
(Mrs. John Turner) and Gladys (Mrs.
Wilmer Wallis); and five brothers, Ernie,
Everett, Leslie, Percy and Melvin Crich.
Friends were received at the Ball and
Falconer 'Box Funeral Chapel' and a
funeral service was conducted Monday by
the Reverend DAvid Snfhur. Interment
Baird's Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy memorial
donations may be made to the charity of
one's choice.
ROY LAVERNE (MICKEY) KEMP
Roy Laverne (Mickey) Kemp died Tues-
day, July 5, 1988 in Ottawa. He was 59.
Mr. Kemp is survived by his wife San-
dra; one son Chris and his wife Leah of Ot-
tawa ; and daughters Kim and her husband
Greg Tokessey of Montreal and Tracy and
her friend Steve Reside of Ottawa.
Also surviving are sisters, Helen (Mrs.
Ken Rolph) of RR 3 Mitchell, Donna (Mrs.
Laverne Rose) of Mitchell, Dorothy (Mrs.
Earl Rose) of Fenelon Falls, Irene (Mrs.
Bob Uniac) of Mitchell and Audrey (Mrs.
Len O'Rourke of RR 4 Seaforth.
Mr. Kemp was predeceased by his
parents, Jack Kemp and Gladys
Houghton, one brother Lloyd and one
sister Jean.
Friends were received at the Lockhart
Funeral Home, Mitchell where a funeral
service was held Friday. Interment in
Woodland Cemetery, Mitchell.
Pallbearers were Bob Masse, Glen
Hamilton, Perry Rolph, John Rose, Torn
Uniac and Bob Malone.
