Merchants mix things up during week
The Seaforth Merchants Senior Men's
Hardball team mixed things up this week,
finishing with one tie, one win and one loss.
EXETER 15-SEAFORTH 15
Daylight ran out before the Seaforth Mer-
chants were able to finish their game
against Exeter last Tuesday night, and the
result was a 15-15 tie.
Seaforth went ahead first in the game on
consecutive singles in the first inning by
Marty Bedard, Don Williamson and Gerry
Feeney.
Exeter soon took over, scoring twice in the
second inning and four times in the third to
make the score 6-1.
Seaforth closed the gap in their half of the
fourth when Dave Akey and Marc Robinet
led off with consecutive doubles. Ray
Anstett hit his first home run of the season
later in the inning to make the score 6-4.
Exeter retaliated with one in their half of
the fourth, but Seaforth closed the gap again
in the top of the fifth, when Bedard walked
and Williamson, Akey and Clendon Coombs
all singled to bring the score to 7-6.
Exeter regained their three run advan-
tage when they scored twice in the bottom of
the fifth inning, and the score remained 9-6
until the seventh inning.

nine times to take a 15-9 lead. Feeney doubl-
ed, Akey and Robinet singled, Coombs was
hit by a pitch, Jim Campbell and Darren
Crocker were both safe on errors, Bedard
walked and Williamson singled before
Feeney capped off the nine run rally with a

Exeter replied with two runs in their half
of the seventh to narrow the gap, then tied
the score with a grand slam in the bottom of
the eighth, before the game was called
because of darkness.

chants, giving up nine runs on 14 hits. He

walked three times and struck out four
times. Two errors were made and eight men
left on base.
"This was a good game for us," said Mer-
chant coach Marc Robinet.
"We hit the ball well. We played great
defense. Our pitching wasn't its best but it
was an all round good team effort.
Everybody contributed."
SEAFORTH 13 -KINCARDINE 2
The Merchants put forth another strong
effort when they mercied the Kincardine
Juniors 13-2.
Bedard pitched six innings for the win,
giving up two unearned runs on five hits. He
walked three batters and struck out six.
Hitters 'for the Merchants included Del
Mitchelinore and Williamson, each with
two, and Feeney, Bedard, Akey, Crocker
and Coombs with one apiece.
However, the Merchants ran out of luck
Monday night when they gave Listowel a 9-4
win.
"Errors by Kincardine, and their lack of
offense gave us an easy victory Thursday
night, but it went the other way against
Listowel," said coach Robinet.
"We made the errors and we didn't hit
very well, which resulted in an easy victory
for them."
Gary Eisler started on the mound for the
Merchants Monday night and went three in-
nings. He gave up five runs on three hits,
walked three batters and struck out four.
Williamson pitched to two batters, gave up
