Residents dance to old tyme music
Residents and visitors enjoyed the old
tyme music provided by Marie Flynn and
the Huron Strings last Thursday afternoon.
In the absence of Lorne Lawson, Ed Boyes
capably filled in on the mouth organ.
Although it was a warm day residents, staff
and visitors all kept the floor filled to
waltzes, polkas, two steps and even the bird
dance. Courtesy remarks were extended to
the band by Ila Gardner and refreshments
of cold juice and doughnuts served after.
Euchre was played last Monday in the ac-
tivity room and on Tuesday residents view-
ed the video film of "Pete the Dragon". On
Wednesday bingo was played in the after-
noon and the lucky winners were
Margeurite Shill, Frank Smale, Cassie
Nicholson, Annie Harrison, Margaret
Smale, James Nolan, Mamie Ross, Denis
Arney, Irene Omand, Ba Gardner, Mabel
Handy, Wm. Connolly, Wilma Bull, Elmer
Backsy and Eva Netzke. Residents enjoy
sitting on the verandah in the morning, but
in the afternoon the temperature has been
pretty high, and mostly they go out under
the shade trees.

Maplewood honors volunteers
Monday afternoon, residents of
Maplewood Manor had the pleasure of tak-
ing another bus trip to Bayfield. There they
visited the cottage of Bill Gibson where they
admired a spectacular view of the rose
gardens. After touring the grounds,
everyone was invited inside to listen while
Bill and a friend played many tunes on the
piano and organ. Before boarding the bus
for the trip home, everyone was treated to
cake and tea. Thanks to Bill for a most en-
joyable afternoon.
Tuesday at noon, volunteers who help
residents in so many ways, were treated to
dinner by the folk of Maplewood as an ex-
pression of their appreciation. After
everyone has been served, Mabel Crouch
recited a couple of humorous poems.
Everyone at Maplewood is truly grateful for
the assistance given by these people. In the
afternoon, cards were in play as many of the
residents got together for euchre.
Wednesday morning Rev. Gilson visited
Maplewood for church service. This marked
the end of the worship sevices for the sum-
mer and residents look forward to their
visits again in the fall.
Saturday residents had a very enjoyable
afternoon as they listened while Glen Oliver
played the violin. Edith Dunlop accom-
panied on the piano. Glen is the son of Les
Oliver, a resident of Maplewood.
