on each hole, who has won or lost the hole in
match play, your total score, your handicap
and your total net score - which is your ac-
tual score minus your handicap. The date
has a specific space since chronological
order is important when establishing a han-
dicap. There's a space for the golfer to sign
the card and a space for someone to attest to
the score. The flip side of a scorecard
usually explains a few local rules, re: outof-
bounds or specific obstacles such as hydro
lines and what to do if you hit them. There
may be a map showing hazards and the
location of tees and greens.
Most scorecards also have a brief "crash
course" on golf etiquette printed for the
benefit of all players, but in particular for
beginners. I doubt whether a very high
percentage of players ever read this section,
but golf courses and players alike would
benefit if more did read these points.
The local course was very busy last week
with various tournaments including the
Clinton Oddfellows, Topnotch Feeds, and
two groups from St. Patrick's school in
Dublin. This weekend (the long weekend)
there are no special events scheduled at the
course.
Ladies night winners were C.A. Doig and
Jan Moore in the blind draw and Barb
Caldwell with least putts. The ladies visited
Exeter Golf Club last Tuesday for a fun
night of golf. Ladies are reminded that July
4 they are hosting three other clubs for golf
and a potluck supper. Be sure to come out
early.
Junior morning has begun and will con-
tinue every Tuesday at 9 a.m. Thursday at 3
p.m. the Optimist Junior tournament will be
held complete with lunch and prizes. Junior
golfers wishing to play should be at the pro -
shop by 2:45 p.m. on Thursday.
Men's night winners were: Ken Janmaat,
Terry Johnston, Moe Huard and Cam Doig.
The Crown Life team must be picked by Ju-
ly 1, so matches should be completed as soon
as possible.
Couples night was a great success with 12
couples in the scramble. First prize went to
the team of Ken and Mary Doig and Jack
and Nancy Holmes. On July 8 the couples
will be out again - Join us for a good time!
The first round of the club championship
was played on Sunday with a low turn out.
Let's see more out for the 2nd round in July.
Watch the bulletin board.
Rule of the Week Q. Are the plugs of com-
pacted soil produced through aerification
loose impediments?A. Yes. Loose soil is not
a loose impediment. 'However, such plugs,
since they consist of compacted soil, are
loose impediments. ('loose soil is a loose im-
pediment on the putting green)
Mistaken identity
Unfortunately the cutline that appeared
underneath a photograph taken at the
Seaforth Manor was wrong. The
photograph, which appeared on page 7 of the
June 22 Huron Expositor, featured Bill
Kelley and Mary Chapple enjoying
strawberry shortcake - not Bill Kelley and
Dorothy Chapple. Our apologies for this er-
ror and any inconvenience and/or embar-
rassment it may have caused.
