DON MACRAE 345-2842 or 345-2140 The Corporate Communion breakfast for the Father Stephen Eckert Council 5289 of Knights of Columbus, Seaforth was held in St. Patrick's Church, Dublin, on Sunday. Mass was celebrated by Father Carrigan, with the honor guard provided by Monseigneur D.J. Egan General Assembly, Seaforth with Sir Knights from Dublin, Seaforth, Goderich, Clinton, Wingham, Zurich and Bluewater. Worthy Master of the 5th Ontario District Jerome MacNamara, London, was the guest speaker and delivered an inspiring message. He was thanked by Grand -Knight Richard McKay. The municipal" officials present were then recognized. Long service certificates were presented by Brother Ewart Wilson and Grand Knight Dick McKay to the following Knights: Maurice Hallahan, 25 years; James Kelly, Lloyd Bedard, Donald MacRae, Philip Duhard, Jerry Murray and John Lansing, 30 years; Ed Melady and Wilfred Feeney, 35 years; George Goettler, 40 years. An .honorary membership was presented to James Devereaux and life memberships to Joe O'Reilly and Henry Enzensberger of Seaforth. DUBLIN GRADUATION The Grade 8 graduation of the St. Patrick's School, Dublin, was held on Tues- day, June 21 with mass celebrated at 7 p.m. Father Carrigan celebrated. Dan Bishop, principal of St. Michael's School, Stratford, was the guest speaker. Dan Uniac was the valedictorian. The awards for the most improved students were Natasha Renne (girl) and Mike Cronin (boy), presented from the Lions Club by Louis Kramers. The Knights of Columbus award to the highest academic boy was a tie between Brian Melady and Mathew Megens and girl, Marianne Cook, presented by Frank Crowley. The OPP Leadership award, presented by Constable Roger Dumas, went to Dan Uniac. • The Ursuline Caring and Sharing Award, presented by Mr. R. Baldin, went to Tanya Vansteelandt. Pat Visser won the boy's athletic award, which was presented by Mr. Baldin, while Patricia Murray won the girl's athletic award, presented by Mrs. C. McCotter. The CWL presentation of rosary's to all students was done by Mrs. Garry Van Loon. The Grade 8 graduation pictures, donated by the PTA, were presented, by Mr. Ken Coyne. The Grade 8 certificates were presented to the students by Mr. R. Baldin. PEOPLE Mr. Ben Benninger, Kitchener, was with his parents Hugh and Ann Benninger on Monday. HEALTH ON THE .iLL— RECRUITMENT Ct,MMI TEE The Board at a recent meeting named a Recruitment Committee to sec.ire the resources of additional family physicians for the Hospital. The committer •onsists of four members, the Board Chairperson, the Mayor of Seaforth, C f of Redical Staff and the Chairperson of the Board Public Relations Committee. CONSTRUCTION PROGRESSES Building Chairperson James Etue was in Toronto last week meeting with officials of the Ministry of Health in connection with planning details of the hospital addition, construction of which is expected to get under way shortly., In the meantime, preliminary work is advancing on the construction of the addition on the east side of the hospital to accommodate electrical and mechanical services for the major addition. First stages of a new read to serve staff parking and delivery was completed this week as well as extensions to the storm di ainage system. CONTINUING EDUCATION ESSENTIAL How does Patient Care Staff keep in touch with the constantly changing world of medicine? Standards at Seaforth Community Hospital require that nart-time nurs- ing staff must attend 50 hours per year of continuing education, while Lull -time nurs- ing staff participates in 35 hours per year. These hours can be in the form of meetings, seminars or courses relevant to the function of the services provided. As a result, many staff have been extremely busy. Cheryl Cook and Pauline Linton, R.N.s rece(14Iy attended a course called Community Health Office Nursing, sponsored, by Conestoga College. Issues such as Baby Care, Immunization, and Allergies were covered. Slier la Feeney and Carol Hunt, R.N.A.s have been updating on Stroke Rehabilitation s .d exploring ideas from occupational therapist and speech therapists on how to motivate stroke patients. STAFF CHANGES The hospital welcomes new staff members Clara Vanderlaan, R.N., Karen Braecker, R.N.A., Laurie Mills, Dietary and Leona Sharp', Laboratory and extends best wishes to Marjorie Varley who is retiring and Lynn lsurke who has resigned. HUMOUR THERAPY Jim Unger, noted cartoonist tells us that "the key to happiness and freedom is a sense of humour and a sense of humour is nothing more or less thantthe ability to laugh at oneself". The patient activation group co-ordinators are looking for a touch of humour to act as a positive therapy. They are collecting cartoons that will be enlarg- ed and hung about the Hospital to lighten up someone's day. As well, the hot summer sun has brought the patients outdoors to plant asparagus ferns and spikes in wooden planters and to enjoy the coolness of the patio.
