of the Huron County Council strongly oppos-
ed any move to abolish county councils.
"As far as the abolition of county councils
is concerned, I would be more in favor of
abolishing the provincial government, and II
have no doubt that if a plebiscite were taken
as to which should be 'abolished it would be
the provincial legislature," declared
Warden Wilmot Haacke.
Abandonment of plans to remodel and br-
ing up to date the public school building was
decided upon at a meeting of the board on
Monday night. The board will, however,
redecorate the building, and complete the
necessary underpinning commenced during
Christmas holidays.
The second break-in in Dublin in recent
weeks was reported Monday morning to
Provincial Officer John Douglas of Strat-
ford. Thieves escaped with $20 worth of
tobacco and cigarettes from the barber shop
of Walter Carpenter.
MAY 30, 1963
No one stayed home for staid old Queen
Victoria's birthday Friday night. Firemen
counted 540 cars jammed into Lions park for
the fireworks. More parked in an adjoining
field and lined the highway to catch a van-
tage point for the display. Canon crackers
boomed during the evening, exciting
youngsters and rattling not -so -youngsters.
The highlight of the evening, the fireworks
display, set up by chief Jack Scott and his
firemen, attracted over 3,000 spectators and
was well worth the $600 investment.
