On Tuesday, May 24, the 41E1 Conservation
Club held its fourth meeting. Guest speaker
was Geoff King from the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority (MVCA). He talked
about soli conservation and his involvement
in the MVCA. After that club members went
out to Don Lobb's farm. There they looked
at the soil conserving techniques he has im-
plemented on his farm. They saw a wind-
break that has been recently established to
protect his house and farm buildings, a
grassed waterway to prevent flood water
from taking soil with it and a rock chute at
the end of the grassed waterway. All of
these measures help to protect his farm
from being taken away by soil erosion. After
returning from Lobb's farm, more trees
were distributed for members to plant on
their property.
The next meeting will be on June 7, in
room 123 at CHSS.
