Both these teams look strong and will be
tough to beat in the Lucan and District Soc-
cer League.
On May 26 the St. Columban Squirts
travelled to Grand Bend and came away
with a 12-0 victory.
Scoring for the Squirts were: J.D. Nolan
with six, Larry Kelly added three, Scott Van
Dooren scored two and Gary Van Bakel
chipped in scoring one. Mike Murray,
although not called upon much, played a
good game in goal, cheering and shouting
The Squirts (aged 6, 7 and 8) are coached
by Dan Nolan; The Atoms (aged 9 and 10)
by Doug Anstett and Joe Visser; two teams
of Mosquitos (aged 11 and 12) by Bill, Vosper
(Mosquito 1), Albert Boven (Mosquito II);
and Pee Wee (aged 13 and 14) by Ken Coyne.
A new team has been formed this year for
those aged 15 to 17. It will be coached by
Tony Arts.
GAME RESULTS
On May 25 in St. Columban the two St. Col-
umban Mosquito teams battled each other
in their first game of the season. It was a
close game and the final result was the St.
Columban Mosquito Hs defeated St. Colum -
McNichol and Ken S ,RRh are softball winners
On May 24, McNichol defeated Kent Mur- Michelle Huard and Scarlet Swan had
ray in ladies softball action. The score was three hits each for the Ken Smith team, in -

If this game is any indication the St. Col-
umban Squirts are well on their way to win-
ning their second straight league
championship.

B WINNERS - Pitcher Don Bogie held on
through 14 innings Saturday to pitch the
Seaforth Bears fastball club to a 5-4 win
over Clinton Merners in the B Champion-
ship of the Sy Langlols Tournament of
Hearts in Goderich on the weekend.

Seaforth Senior Games completed
A number of winners have been recogniz-
ed in the Seaforth Senior Games, as the
senior's sporting events drew to a close this
Friday after a month and a half of competi-
tion.
Winners of the events since May 10 are: in
walking, Mary Chapple and Marj Maloney;
in table tennis, Charlie and Peggy Perkins;
and in crokinole, Art and Mary Finlayson
(since the Finlayson had already won an
event Stan and Jessie Hillen will be
Seaforth's crokinole representatives in
Stratford).
Horseshoes was won by the team of John
Aubin and Lavern. Hoegy, and carpet bowl-
ing was taken by John Patterson and Helen
MacKenzie. Golf had three winners in each
of three categories with Rod Doig winning
the 0-9 handicap, Bill Harris winning the
10.19 handicap, and Dave Cornish taking the
19-40 handicap. In the swimming competi-
tion Vivienne Newnham, Mary Chapple,
Yenny Dimaline, and Sid Scroggs were
winners.
Lawn Bowling was the last event of the
games, and skip Bill Brown and his team of
Thelma Coombs and Dorothy McCluskie
were the winners. Mrs. McCluskie will not
be able to compete in Stratford, so she will
be replaced by Oliver Pryce. Mr. Pryce was
on the second place team with John Patter-
son and Grace Broadfoot.
The turnout for the games in Seaforth this
year was comparable to earlier years,
although there was not as much interest in
tennis and euchre as there has been in the
past.
The Stratford playoffs for District 29
(Huron, Perth, and Middlesex) will be held
on June 21 and 22. There will also be a pro-
vincial playdown this year, and "Actifest
88" will be held in Brampton August 29 to 31.
All the district winners from the province
will be at Actifest to determine who are the
all -Ontario champions.
Local lawnbowling club holds opening for season
The Seaforth Lawn Bowling Club held its
opening for the season on Monday, May 23.
In the afternoon five greens were in play for
bowling and 44 members sat down to a boun-
tiful potluck supper at 5:30 p.m.
Mary Finlaysont president of the ladies
club, welcomed everyone present and also
conducted a short business period. In the
evening some members again bowled while
others played euchre and bridge in the
clubhouse.
Afternoon bowling winners were Carol
McLean 2W plus 25 and Eileen Adamson and
Betty Tilley (tied) 2W plus 23. For the men it
was Clare Reith 2W plus 27 and Fred Tilley
2W plus 24.
Card player winners were ladies' high -
Ethel Dennis, lone hands - Dorothy Town-
send, men's high - Agnes Eyre, lone hands -
Jim Keyes and consolation - Russell and
Stella Worden. Bridge winners were James
Kelly and Ruth Beutenmiller. Next social
will be June 28th, potluck supper at 6 p.m. at
the clubhouse.
Saturday, May 28 members held a suc-
cessful garage and bake sale at the club.
Proceeds will help defray some of the costs
of operating the clubhouse and greens.
Thanks to all the members who donated ar-
ticles and assisted on the day of the sale.
Friday, May 27 saw members par-
ticipating in the Senior Games Lawn Bowl-
ing play off. John Patterson's rink came out
in first place. His team was Olive Pryce
(lead), Grace Broadfoot (vice) and John
Patterson (skip). In second place was the
team of Dorothy McCluskie (lead), Thelma
Coombs (vice) and Bill Brown (skip). In
third place was Art Finlayson's team with
Sandy Doig (lead), Eileen Adamson (vice)

Saturday, June 4 the first stage of Ladies'
Provincial Lawn Bowling for District 4 will
be held at the Seaforth Greens starting at 9
a.m. This will be ladies trebles and hopeful-
ly nice weather will prevail.
Town people challenged to dance
Seaforth Lions Pool SWIMMING LESSON
REGISTRATION will be held at the Lions
Park Pavilion on Saturday, June 4 and
Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Public swimming season tickets may also
be purchased. Rates are as follows:
Children $35, students and adults $45 and the
whole family $70. Register early to get the
time you want.
TOWN'S PEOPLE CHALLENGED again
this year. Sports teams, business employees
and especially men are being challenged to
participate in the 2nd Annual "Dance for
Heart" on Thursday, June 9 from 7 to 10
p.m. at the Seaforth and District Communi-
ty Centres. The purpose of this event is to
raise funds for the Heart and Stroke Foun-
dation of Ontario. Five different instructors
will guide people through the evening. They
are: Drusilla Leitch, Joy Levis, Vivian Cap-
pelli, Karen Mahon and Rita Loftsgard.
Door prizes and draws will be awarded
throughout the evening.
Participants can also win incentive prizes
such as pins, T-shirts, towels, gym bags,

and garment bags. The prize you receive
will depend on how much money you collect.
Sponsor sheets can be obtained at various
stores located on Main Street or from the
Recreation Office.

If you are interested in playing
HORSESHOES, come on out every Monday
evening from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Everybody is
welcome. It will be held at the Seaforth and
District Community Centres front lot.
MINOR BALL HOUSELEAGUE will start
on Saturday, June 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the Op-
timist Park. For anybody that registered for
this league, come out and have some fun. T -
Ball has already started. It is going to be
held at the high school every Monday even-
