"There, was more physical labor thep than now. Today there's more mental planning - more mental stress. Before it was good, healthy labor," he said. "Before you worked 10 hours a day, 12 months a year. Now you sit around for six months, then go out and work 10 hours a day. We were in shape for it then, now we're not." Mr. Allan is a graduate' of the Clinton High School and the father of two children - Jeff who continues to farm, and Jane who is editor of the Financial Post in Toronto. In addition to his involvement with farm- ing over the years, Mr. Allan was an active member of the Brucefield United Church, served as an Elder and was involved with the Young People's Union, Sunday School and choir. He was also an active participant and coach in several sports, including curling and sail boarding, which still keep him busy today. s Addition • from page 1 said Mr. Ozimek, adding most of the "neat things" stemmed from discussions with the public at an open house last year. "We did a whole lot of different configura- tions trying to accommodate the needs of the people we met at our open house. We've changed our plans for the retirement home dramatically, from our open house," he said. The third floor of the existing building will be converted to office use. What is special about the home is that a special insulation is being installed that will keep the rooms warm and draft free. The heating system is such that everyone can feel comfortable (it is not a dry nor a humid heat) and rooms are individually controlled. The flooring system contains no concrete, since it retains the cold and causes pro- blems for people with arthritic complaints. The crawl space which runs under the retirement home, is heated to ensure warm floors. Most of the floors are carpeted. "We want people for feel as comfortable as they would in anyone else's home," said Mr. Ozimek. "There's not a lot we can do to make the nursing home rooms exciting, but we're try- ing to do what we can. There we want to give residents as much privacy as possible, and floors will be hard for ease of mobility and clean up." Rumor • from page 2 Marie Melody, they were among con- testants from 22 schools in McKillop, Hib- bert, Mitchell and Logan who took part in the festival. The children are Janet O'Reil- ly, Louise Feeney, Douglas O'Reilly, Patsy Murray, Trudy VanDrunen, John Vogels, Sharon Shea and Joanne Coyne. Tuckersmith council acted Tuesday to straighten the road between lots 15, conces- sion 2 and 3 HRS. Approval of the Depart- ment of Highways is being sought to carry out the work estimated at $9,500. For more than 100 years travellers on the second concession of Tuckersmith, west of Seaforth, have followed the road as it winds around a bend in the Egmondville river and climbs the side of a hill in front off the forest residence. Proceeds amounting to nearly $600 resulted from the Women's Hospital Aux- iliary penny sale which concluded Friday. 1
