EDITOR'S NOTE
Seaforth students fared well hi a county-
wide essay contest. The contest was spon-
sored by the Public Health Nurses of
Huron County in conjunction with Nurse's
Week. Three students from Seaforth
Public School, and a fourth student from
St. James Separate school placed among
the top three students in the junior and
senior divisions of the essay contest.
Junior students (kindergarten to Grade 4)
wrote on"What a nurse does", and senior
contestants (Grade 5 to 8) wrote about
"What makes a good nurse."
The following are the four trophy winn-
ing essays by Seaforth students.
WHAT MAKE$ A GOOD NURSE?
A good nurse should be helpful, kind and
loving. A nurse should be calm, gentle and
extremely responsible. Nurses should
well educated. When I'm in the hospital I ex-
pect a nurse to make me feel better about
my illness, to give me hope. I expect a nurse
to make me feel that she is my best friend.
She or he should have a good sense of
humor. I haven't been in the hospital often,
but when I visit most nurses are helpful and
kind. Doctors also should have respect for
nurses, and nurses for doctors. Nurses
should be sparkling clean. Most nurses are
kind, caring and clean. I'm positive of that!
A good nurse is a great treasure.

What I think nurses do
Nurses help doctors. They look after the
patients twenty-four hours a day. Their
work includes bathing patients, changing
beds, giving medicine and keeping people
comfortable. They must be able to treat pa-
tients kindly, work with doctors and

WHAT MAKES A GOOD NURSE
To be a good nurse you must be responsi-
ble and take responsiblities. You must be
helpful. You have to know all about medica-
tion and how to give patients their medica-
tion. You have to be kind and ready for an
emergency. Nurses have a lot to do. They
must help doctors and help patients. A good
nurse must be educated and must study
very hard in school and then go to college or
' university. A good nurse can be a man or a
woman as long as that person works hard.
A good nurse must be able to do what is
assigned. A good nurse must be one who can
study to be a good nurse.

What I Think a Nurse
Does Everyday
I'think nurses are helpful and cooperative.
When you are sick they help you get things.
Nurses work at places like a hospital, a doc-
tor's clinic or a home for the aged. They give
needles and check your temperature. They
check to see if you're alright. They help you
schedule your appointment. They show you
to your doctor. If you're a lady who had a
baby the nurse will get your baby out of the
nursery for you to hold. My mom has a
friend who used to be a Victorian Order of
Nurses, they help in homes. If you're a per-
son in the hospital with a broken foot they
help you walk on it. If you pull a string in a
hospital they come very fast to you. Nurses
are very helpful to people who are very sick
and that's what I think a nurse does
everyday.
