PEOPLE A surprise birthday party was held at home of Isabelle Hunt in honor of Edith (nee Hunt) Vincent on Sunday, April 10. Guests from out of town were Mary Fullerton and Marjorie Gotsell from Brighton, Brother Clifford Hunt, Ruth Miller and Audrey Wolfenden aLondon, Ontario. Alvin and Vera McDonald, Brussels, Laura Stewart, Effie Stephenson and relatives of the Hunt family of Seaforth area. County Science Fair Saturday at Clinton On Saturday, April 16, approximately 20 elementary schools in Huron County will be sending pupils to the Clinton Legion to participate in the Huron County Science Fair. These pupils represent Grades 7-8 finalists chosen to compete from approx- imately 1000 pupils across Huron County. The pupils will be competing for prizes in the Life Science, Physical Science and Computer Science categories. The overall prize is a trip to Winnipeg from May 15-22, to compete in the Canada Wide Science Fair. Anyone wishing to view the projects, may do so at the Clinton Legion Hall, 95 Kirk Street, from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, April 16. Come out and see these great pro- jects and show your support. Farm Machinery club learns about slippage The fourth meeting of the Huron -Tractor Farren Machinery Club was held at Becker Farm Equipment in Exeter. Robert Becker was introduced to members and then Brian Bannin, who is from Haugh Tire, talked about tire sizes, types and proper main- tainance of them. After Mr. Bannin spoke Junior leader Chris Maloney presented information on ballasting and different ways of maintain- ing proper wheel slippage. He was followed by Peter Mosey from Case 111 who talked too on wheel slippage - the causes and how to prevent it. He showed a film on the subject. Next followed decision on where the club should take its field trip. Tickets on a grocery basket were handed out to each member to be sold, and refreshments were served. This is your invitation to OBITUARIES aeaftwamisismomms DR: DONALD PENNMAN EWING, MD Dr. Donald Penman Ewing, MD, of Kit- chener, died Saturday, March 26, 1988 at the K -W Hospital. A son of the late Mary Louise and Charles Sinclair Ewing, he was a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons and the Interna- tional College of Surgeons. Dr. Ewing was the first board certified gynecologist to practice in Kitchener. He practised in Seaforth in 1941. Dr. Ewing is survived by nieces, Mary Louise (Ewing) Herrold of Royal Oak, Michigan and Jacqueline (Ewing) Lamer of Walnut Creek, California. He was predeceased by one brother, Charles Herbert Ewing, MD. There was no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place. ISABEL SMITH Isabel Smith of Brussels, died Sunday, April 10, 1988 at her late home. She was 69. The former Isabel Thyme she is survived by her husband Glenn G, Smith; two daughters, Marlene and her husband James Yuill and Juanita and her friend Doug Bale. Also surviving are two grandsons, Glenn and Garry Yuill; her mother Annie Thynne; and one sister Barbara (Mrs. George Mc- Cutcheon), all of Brussels; and one brother Sam 'Tyne of Wingham. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her father Jack Thyne, and one sister Della Nichol. Friends called at the Peebles Funeral Home, Atwood and a private family service was held on Tuesday. CATHERINE VOCK Catherine Vock of Seaforth, died Friday, April 8, 1 s at the Seaforth Community Hospital. She was 31. She is survived by her husband Douglas and three sons Matthew, Michael and Mark, all at home. Also surviving are her parents, Margaret arid Gord Sallows of Seaforth; grandmother Janet MacArthur of Seaforth; father and mother in-law Carl and Betty Vock of Brodhagen; brother and sister -in-laws, Den- nis and Joyce Westman of Cambridge and Ken and June Faust of Mitchell and Wanda and Mark Swanson of Willowdale and brother-in-law Bill Vock of Mitchell. The family received friends at the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home, 87 Goderich Street West, Seaforth and a funeral service was held Sunday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brodhagen. Interment St. Peter's Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Steve Haggitt, Connie Boyd, Doug Leonhardt, Dave Leonhardt, Kevin Henderson and Brian Dale. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. RUCE WESTON ARMSTRONG Bruce Weston Armstrong of RR 2 Staffa a'ed Sunday, April 10, 1988 at his residence. He was 73. Mr. Armstrong is survived by his wife, the former Bernice McKellar, and children, Jerry and his wife Mary of RR 2 Kippers and Rennie and his wife Marg of, RR 4 Goderich. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and one sister Beatrice (Mrs. Morley Storey). The family received friends at the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home, Seaforth and a funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. Interment Bayfield Cemetery. HANNAH CATHERINE AUSTIN Hannah Catherine Austin of Seaforth, died Friday, April 8, 1988 at the Seaforth Manor Nursing Horne. She was 89. Born in Hulled Township she was a daughter of the late John Brown and Mary Ann Lee. She was a member of Northside United Church, Seaforth and of the Nor- thside United Church Women. Mrs. Austin is survived by children, Doreen and husband Winner Kelly of Seaforth and Donald and wife Delores of Waterloo. Also surviving are grandchildren Christine and Sherry of Waterloo and Carol Anne and Murray of Seaforth, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Austin was predeceased by her hus- band Albert Austin and one sister Julia (Mrs. William Trewin). Friends were received at the Ball and Falconer, "Box Funeral Chapel", Seaforth and a funeral service was held Monday, of- ficiated by the Reverend James Vanslyke. Interment Maitland Bank Cemetery. Pallbearers were Murray Kelly, Steve Birch, Denzil (Bud) Britton, Bruce Austin, Donald Matthews and John Staffen. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society as expressions of sympathy. R. GORDON SIIORTREED R. Gordon Shortreed of London, died Fri- day, April 8, 1988 at the Victoria Hospital, South Street Campus. He was 70. A member of the London Lodge of Perfec- tion, Rose Croix Chapter, Moore Sovereign Consistory and Mocha Temple, Mr. Shor- treed is survived by his wife, the former Elva E. Rose, and a brother Wilfred of Walton. He was predeceased by three brothers, James, Thomas and John, and a sister Mary. Friends were received at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, and a funeral ser- vice was held on Monday with the Reverend Ivan Dambrowitz officiating. Interment Mr. Pleasant Cemetery. A Masonic Service was conducted in the chapel on Sunday evening in the charge of the Clinton Lodge 84, A.F. and A.M.
