In fact they are the most talked about pair in the figure skating world. "I knew we had a lot of talent between the two of us. 'It was just whether or not we could take that talent and ability and come together as one," said Lloyd. "I thought a year ago we would be where we are now - and we're getting better and better." "Isabelle's size (four foot, 10 inches)is a definite advantage because it allows us to do things other teams would .not attempt. And even though Isabelle is shorter than I am (at five foot, 11 inches), she has longer legs, so we are able to synchronize our spins and match jumps." Even their age difference (Lloyd is 24 and Isabelle 17) has figured positively in Lloyd and Isabelle's relationship. "We've become good friends, despite the age difference. We find it easier to get along because we are different ages," said Lloyd. Lloyd admitted he and Isabelle were a lit- tle disappointed in some of the marks they received at the Olympics, but added they realize they don't have the experience of some of the other pairs teams. "The marks were disappointing and some we didn't expect, but we weren't displeased. We've done as well as we could have based on the system. We don't have the esposure and we'll have to prove ourselves," he said. Unlike other skaters, like Elizabeth Manley who found it easier to skate before a home crowd at the Calgary Olympics, Lloyd said he and Isabelle were a little on edge. He said they found it much easier to skate in Budapest, where the pressure was off. "The Olympics at home was wonderful - but it was almost a bit too much," said Lloyd. "Plus the people at the Olympics weren't Londesboro United Church SONG FEST SUNDAY, APRIL 10 AT 7:30 P.M. CHILDREN 6 - 12 - s1. all skating fans - they were sports fans whip just wanted to be part of the Olympic ex- perience and didn't understand if you didnit win a medal: In the Worlds everyone in the audience is skating oriented, and understands the system, the judging...It was more like family. We saw the same peo- ple we see at every competition." It was that same kind of familiarity that Lloyd liked most about skating in Seaforth on Friday. "It's like coming home. I'm happy to be here. Seaforth's been very supportive, both financially and emotionally - and my family and my friends are here," he said. Lloyd started skating in Goderich when he was seven -years -old. The family had just moved to Ontario from western Canada, and Lloyd, who had never been on skates before, found it difficult to keep up to his Grade 2. classmates. So, his mother enrolled him in the figure skating club. He skated one year in Goderich, the rest in Seaforth, before his prowess in skating forced him to train out of the Cambridge Figure Skating Club. "I knew how fast he could learn if I took him down to the figure skating 'club for a couple months. He never left," said Mrs. Eisler. When it was determined 'that he was not destined to be small, Lloyd opted to utilize his size to its best advantage in the pairs skating. "It's also easier to make it in pairs," he said. "I'm too big - too tall and too heavy for singles. You need to be light to be able to jump and spin - like Brian Orser." Lloyd has loved his years of skating. Despite the fact there is a political block bet- ween many of the competing countries, the skaters - because of their common interest, are the best of friends. Lloyd however, has another best friend in his fiancee Pam Watson. An ice skater from Hudson, Quebec, Pam is a student of McGill University where she is studying for her Doctorate of Physiotherapy. She has a minimum of two years of school remaining, and one year of internship. Because of that they expect their engagement to be.. longterm. No date is set yet for the wedding. Other interests of Lloyd's life include all sports - among them skiing (water and snow) and golf.
