The local arena is empty except for one dressing room full of hockey players who are hurrying to put on their equipment so they can get down to business. Some of the equipment (or most of it) belongs in a museum of some sort or even at the local dumpsite. But to these guys it doesn't really matter what their equipment looks like because they are here for one thing and one thing only - HOCKEY! Once they make it to the ice the warm up is very important to these seasoned athletes. They know if they can put the puck past the Wood brothers Mike and Ike they are in for a good night. The Wood brothers are two of the best goalies in the area. The first 15 minutes of the game are fast and furious as the guys try and impress the few fans still left from the game before. But, once the fans realize it's only pick-up hockey and leave, the pace slows down to where it should be - SLOW. The boys play for an hour and a half with the last hour set aside for a three out of five or four out of seven series to decided the champions for the next week. This is also known as "bragging rights" in the dressing room after the game. The games are played with the same rules as the big leagues with one extra rule added to protect the Wood brothers from embar- rassment. "NO WOUSEY GOALS ALLOWED". Many big league stars come out and play regular Tuesday night. Rich Valve come out and Just recently scored the 400th goal of his great career and then a week later ended his season on a down note by breaking his ankle. It is rumored the puck has been sent to the hockey hall of fame in Toronto for public viewing. Other mentionables include: Ray Bour- que for his great defensive play; Peter Klima for his sometimes prowness around the net; Steve Kasper for his lightning like speed up the middle and his blistering wrist shot; and Gord Muzak for his end-to-end rushes and his long reach. Gord is also sidelined with an injury right now but should. be back before ,the season is over. The boys even had the privilege of having a rookie from Pittsburg out one night but he could only last for an hour. He said he was gong home to watch the rest of the Atlstar game but the truth is he couldn't handle the pace the veterans set for him (maybe next year he'll be able to keep up). Over time these guys have picked up dif- ferent names which they sometimes take with them to tournaments. - THE BOYS, THE BOYZ, THE TUESDAY NIGHT BOYS, THE PLAYBOYS, THE FELLAS, THE MUCKERS...the list goes on. With the calibre of play out there it's a wonder the stands aren't full every Tuesday night, but there must be something better to watch on T.V. I guess I'm gong to go and work on my shot now sowe'll see all you future or ex - superstars next year same time sameplace - Tuesday at 10. Corbett photo. Atom Is • from page 1 angle, assisted by Mike Watt. Murray got the next goal for Seaforth also, as Mike Weber centred the puck to him and he tuck- ed it behind the goalie on the backhand. Also assisting on the play was Mike Watt. So the local club ended up with a 2-1 lead after the first period. The second period was all Seaforth, as they scored twice while shutting out Port Hope. Mike Devereaux put on the moves and walked around two defensemen and the goalie for his first goal of the game, with Wayne Schoonderwoerd assisting. Boyd Devereaux made the score 4-1 as he scored through heavy traffic in front of the Port Hope net. Jason Henderson and Joe Murray assisted on the goal. The third period saw Joe Murray centre a pass to Jeff Flanagan who didn't miss the opportunity. Port Hope came on as Seaforth got three penalties in the period, and they managed to score two goals. With the score 5-3 the Port Hope goaltender was taken from the net in favor of an extra attacker. There were only 34 seconds left in the game and a faceoff in the Seaforth end. But Joe Murray made the Port Hope club sorry for pulling their goaltender, as he shot the puck the length of the ice and wrapped up the game for Seaforth at a 6-3 final. The second game, played in Port Hope, was not as one sided as the first. But Seaforth managed to win it in an overtime period, setting the tone for their big win on Sunday in front of their hometown fans. $ 3 9 9 5 . 0 0 The Excellent Choice in Home .Appliances r.1 • John Deere AMT " 600 All Materials T'ransport features 600 pound pay- load capacity on level ground. • Adapts to many jobs. • Landscaping. • Plant maintenance. • Construction. • Hunting, trapping, fishing. • Grounds care operations. • High flotation, 5 -wheel configu- ration for low ground pressure and stability.
