Junior Belles win Western Ontario gold
The Seaforth Jr. Belles ended their season
with a bang this year. The girls entered the
Western Ontario Regional "C" Finalists
Tournament in Kitchener. With team work
and a lot of determination the girls went all
the way to win the gold medal in the Junior
Belle "C" division. This is a great ac-
complishment for the girls because it is the
first time Seaforth has ever won the
regionals.
There were five teams in Seaforth's pool.
To start things off Seaforth played Chatham
Friday. This game proved to be very close
and could have gone either way. Unfor-
tunately, Seaforth lost by a score of 7 to 6.
Goalscorers for Seaforth were Lisa
Henderson 3, Tammy Nash 1, Sheri King 1,
and Tracey Sills with 1. Assists went to Shel-
ly Nigh 2, Andrea Ribey 2, Tammy Nash 2,
Lisa Henderson 1 and Heather McKercher
with 1.
Even though Seaforth lost they were hap-
py to have at least come close to a city like
Chatham. After this defeat many of the girls
had given up hope on winning a medal.
On Saturday at 1 pm Seaforth played their
second game against London. The girls
knew they were in for a good game and gave
it their best. Both teams played fairly even-
ly throughout the game and the end result
was a 6-6 tie. This gave Seaforth one point.
Goalscorers were Tammy Nash 3, Lisa
Henderson 3. Assists went to Henderson 2,
Melissa Whitmore 2, Sheri Kling 1, Heather
McKercher 1, Susan Roweliffe 1, Tracey
Sills 1 and Tammy Nash with 1.
The girls were guaranteed three games in
the tournament. In the third game Seaforth

met up with Woolwich. The girls, having
played two tough games, were keen and
ready. They beat Woolwich by a score of 9 to
3.
Goalscorers were Lisa Henderson 3, Tam-
my Nash 3, Sheri Kling 1, and Tracey Sills
with 1. Assists went to some very hard work-
ing defencemen, Heather McKercher 2,
Shelly Nigh 2, Melissa Whitmore 2, Susan
Roweliffe 2, Tracey Sills 2 and forwards
Lisa Henderson 1, and Tammy Nash 1.
Player of the game was Andrea Ribey who
filled in for Sara Teall and played her first
game in net this year. Andrea, just a little
shaky from nerves, played excellently.
Seaforth now having three points was in a
three way tie with London and Woolwich.
Seaforth was determined the winner by hav-
ing the most goals. This meant they were in
the medals and would meet Kitchener Sun-
day morning at 8 am.
• As Sunday morning came around so did a
bunch of eager and -enthusiastic Ringette
players. Even though many were tired they
still were determined to win. This game was
for the bronze medal and winners would go
on in the final for gold.
As the girls came on the ice there wasn't a
doubt in their minds only one very nervous.
goaltender. Andrea Ribey, who did such an
excellent job in net the first time was put in
again. Seaforth's previous goaltender Sara
Teall played wing and played superbly. This
game was one of the best games ever played
by the girls, one that had everyone on their
toes. The game ended up in a 6-6 tie and
resulted in five minutes overtime.
At the 3:58 mark in the overtime pe Id
Seaforth's Lisa Henderson scored on a pass
from Tammy Nash which proved to be the
winner.
Other goalscorers were Lisa Henderson 4,
Tammy Nash 3.
Assists went to Tammy Nash 5, Heather
McKercher 1, Tracey Sills 1, Sheri Kling 1
and Lisa Henderson with 1. This lead
Seaforth to the final game against a second
Kitchener team for the gold.

KARATE COMPETITION - The Seaforth Karate Club put in another good showing in
Karate competition recently, as 15 members of the club took part in the Fourth Annual
Challenge Cup. The competition was held in Toronto and was attended by 280 com-
petitors from across Ontario, and included clubs from many cities including Toronto.
Paticipants were judged in two events: sparring, which is a mock fight; and kata which
is a series of martial movements. Dave McKellar placed third in Kate, Debbie McGrath
was fourth in Kate, Marg Weber placed first in sparring and second in kata, Chuck
Hasson placed first in sparring and fourth in kata, Jean Hasson was fourth in sparring,
Ryan Contois placed second in Kata and third in sparring, Andy Parker finished fourth
in kata, and Jeff Parker was third in kata. Missing from the photo is Lori Glanville who
placed second in sparring and third in Kata. Corbett photo.
Parrline dumps Raiders 5-0
A frustrating game for the Raiders as
they made every effort to do some scoring
but achieved nothing. Parr Line kept the
lead.
Scoring for Parr Line was Steve Rowat
with a brisk shot and into the net it goes with
help from Paul Nurse. Paul Gibbings was in
the Limelight as he accumulated a couple of
sure points with help from Fd Sslverde
Our Rod Merner was no pushover either as
he directed a chip shot into the net, off pass-
ing by Adrian Salverda. Last but not least
Craig Piet's massive goal ended the game
as time ran out on the clock. A thrilling pass
by goalie Randy Blake.
On April 7 at the Clinton Arena at 10 p.m.
it's the Raiders vs Parr Line.
Murray, and Leaf Mike Weber, assisted by
Dean Finnigan, each scored in the second to
lead to the shootouts.
NORTHSTARS 2- OILERS 1
The North Stars and Oilers also determin-
ed their fate in shotouts with the North Stars
scoring after four attempts. Kalen Carroll,
assisted by Steve Hicknell, scored for the
North Stars in the first period with Oiler
Kevin McElwain, assisted by Pat Moylan,
answering in the second.
RECREATION PREVIEW
by Marty Bedard
LONGER STICKS would have helped out on this play as a Sea
forth Atom I reaches the puck ahead of a Port Hope defensman
while the Port Hope goaltender tries to poke the puck into the
corner and away from his net. Seaforth took this, the third game
of the series, 6-2 and won the All Ontario title on the weekend.
