Jr. Belles defeated in finals On Friday, March 18 the Seaforth Jr. Belles played Mitchell for the first game of the Huron Perth Jr. Final. They 'were defeated by a score of 11 to 6. Due to the shortage of players, Seaforth picked up Tween players, Kim Rau, Melody Turner and Cheryl McIlwain. The Tween players were a great help as Kim Rau scored four out of the six goals. Other goal scorers were Cheryl Mcllwain with one and Lisa Henderson with one. Assists went to Cheryl Mcllwain two, Sheri Kling one, Lisa Henderson one, Andrea Ribey one and newcomer Tracy Bisback with one. All the girls played well but just didn't have enough to beat the tough hitting squad of Mitchell. In the second game of the series played Monday, March 21 Seaforth fell short by a score of 8-5. Seaforth came on the ice with a full squad and were willing to give it another try but Mitchell came on strong and never let up. Things were looking good for Seaforth as Tammy Nash started the scoring at the 12:26 mark. Mitchell followed up with a goal by Cheryl Hodgert to tie the game. Seaforth again came back with a goal from Nash assisted by defencemen'Tracy Sills. - Seaforth's lead was ruined as Mitchell scored two more goals to move ahead. Mit- chell received a number of penalties which gave Seaforth the chance for a power play. Lisa Henderson scored the power play goal assisted by wingers Tracy Sills and Tammy Nash. In the second period Tammy Nash pocketed a goal unassisted and Lisa Hender- son scored one assisted by Tracy Bisback and Heather McKercher, Mitchell went on to score five more goals to win the came. All the girls contributed to the game and played as a team. Even though they didn't win the championship they were satisfied just being runners up. So the Seaforth game was almost theirs, but then with 1:14 club had its back to the wall when Lambeth left in the game Lambeth tied it up again. was in Seaforth Friday night. They needed a Fortune made the save on the initial shot. win to tie the series and a loss would put them out. This game was a lot faster than the first game these two teams played in Seaforth, probably because there was a lot more at stake. But Lambeth opened the scoring in the first period, as'a defensive error deep in the Seaforth end allowed a Lambeth for- ward to pick off a pass and put a top corner shot past goaltender Trevor Fortune. A low drive from Brad Carter tied the game upr for Seaforth, and Brad Beutten- miller and Ray Murray assisted on the play. Seaforth went on a power play to get their next goal, and they worked the puck around the Lambeth net until Brad Beuttenmiller got off a scoring shot. Blair Beuermann and Ray Murray assisted. Seaforth's third goal of the period came from a fast moving pass- ing play: Steve Schroeder picked up the puck in his own end, passed it to Andy Ball who was near centre ice, Ball carried it over the Lambeth blue line and gave it to Brad Carter, and Carter walked in on net and with some shifty moves made the score 3-1 for Seaforth. The second period saw things slow down a lot for the Seeforth club, as a lot of penalties killed their momentum. Lambeth got the on- ly goal of the period to get back in the game. And it was more of the same in the third period as Seaferth was held scoreless, but Lambeth got the tying goal they needed to force an overtime period. Lambeth scored the goal off a faceoff in the Seaforth end. The Lambeth winger picked up the puck off the draw, and let a shot go from the hash but a Lambeth player was left all alone in front of the net while Fortune was still down. He took one shot that hit the post, but he picked up the rebound on his own shot and made it count the second time. So the final score on the game in Seaforth was 4-4. Because they tied the fourth game and were still one game behind the Lambeth club, Seaforth had to get a win in the fifth game in order to force a sixth game.
