Seaforth Novice runners up in Listowel
Sunday, March 27, the Seaforth Novice
Team played its last three games of the
1987-88 season as participants in the
Listowel tournament.
Seaforth met- Forest for the first game.
There was only two minutes left in the first
period when Seaforth put the first mark on
the scoreboard - Pat Gridzak scoring the
goal assisted by Chris Marion and Mark Van
Dooren. The second period again just had
one goal counted when Scott Van Dooren
scored assisted by Jered Munro.
The Forest team must have had quite the
pep talk between periods because right
when the puck was dropped for the third
period they skated down the ice and made
the score 2-1.
After lots of chances Shaun Anstett scored
single-handedly and managed to count
another only 40 seconds later this time, be-
ing assisted by Pat Gridzak. At 3:38 of the
third Jered Munro caught his second wind
and burst up the ice to count number five for
Seaforth and also help him receive "Player
of the Game" award for this game.
The 5-1 win over Forest advanced
Seaforth, to the "A" division where they
met Drayton. The two teams were both
moving a little slow after their long waits
but Mark Van Dooren assisted by Pat Grid-

zak managed to count one for Seaforth with
only 25 seconds left in the first period.
Another whole period went by before
Seaforth's Mark Van Dooren popped
another rebound in, this time being assisted
by Shaun Anstett. Seaforth was keen now
and Jason Smith counted number three, on a
beautiful pass from Bruce Griffin.
However with only 21/2 minutes left in the
game Drayton managed to count one but
ran out of time. Mark Van Dooren received
"Player of the Game" award for tha second
game.
Seaforth winning the second game 3-1 put
them in the Championship game against
Belmont. One game left and not a loss all
year "can they do it?" Sure they can! The
boys knew this was going to be a tough
game; since they played two very close
games against this particular team at the
Silverstick in Michigan.
Belmont caught Seaforth off guard and
only wanted to play defensive hockey which
screened their own goalie. Belmont was
ahead 3-0 of the end of the first and this got
Seaforth moving. The puck was dropped and
Shaun Anstett tucked it in the opposing net.
Two minutes later Shaun Anstett poked
another in, this time assisted by Brent

The Sioux team, under captain Campbell
Wey, held onto their lead on Friday after-
noon despite a valiant attempt by the Heide
team who scored five points to their two.
In other games the Hurons, who once were
the bottom team, came on strong again and
defeated the Mohawks 7-0 despite Harvey
Daw's coaching of the Mohawks.
The Iroquois finished the season by winn-
ing seven points from the Drees dropping
them to the cellar.
However it has been a close race with the
four bottom teams ending the season with

Teeswater series
Shaun Anstett was awarded two assists
for some great passes.
It was an excellent game to watch but
you'd never know it listening to a couple of
boys in the dressing room. You do your best
at all times and have fun - "that's all". It
doesn't matter whether or not your name
appears at the top of the score list or closer
to the bottom. Let's see some smiles!
Hulley. Shaun was all fired up now and
assisted Pat Gridzak to count two more on
the scoreboard which put the Seaforth team
ahead 4-3.
At 6:21 of the third Shaun Anstett scored
his third goal of the game and was awarded
a "Hat Trick Trophy" at the end of the
game. This goal was assisted by Mark Van
Dooren. With two minutes left in the game
Belmont scored and did again with only 21
seconds left in the game to tie the score at
five.
A five minute overtime period was
scoreless which brought the teams to
another five minute sudden death period on-
ly to see Belmont score at 3:17 of that
period.
Pat,Grldzak accepted Player of the Game
award for this game. This was the only loss
of the whole year for the Novice Team.
Great game and year team!
