Dublin represented in Toronto Oracle On Sunday, March 13th, members from the Police Village of Dublin participated in the 1st annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Toronto. Jeremiah Murray, Inspecting Trustee, and Don MacRae, Hydro Chairman, wives and friends travelled to .Toronto to par- ticipate in the almost two-hour parade–the first of its kind in more than 100 years. Made up of 86 units, the parade kicked off at Varsity Stadium in Toronto and travelled along Bloor St. W., down Yonge St. and across Queen St., both Murray and MacRae explained last week. "We really got cheered," Murray said. "They said we were stealing the show," MacRae said with a smile. The pair, dressed in tuxedoes trimmed in green complete with top hats to help celebrate St. Patrick's Day, were honored to ridh in a two -horse drawn Londau which was provided by .the Irish Miners Club of Toronto. A banner representing the village of Dublin ®vas carried by Jack and Denise Kel- ly of Stratford. The St. Patrick's Day parade was an an- nual affair in 19th century Toronto but in 1878 it turned into a riot and the Irish tradi- tion was halted. Attempts to resurrect it– the latest in 1955–failed. "For the first time in our living memory we're going to have a parade and the next stage is to extend it to a three or four-day mini -festival," Sean Moore, spokesman for the new St. Patrick's Parade Society said in a Toronto Star published report. The Grand Mar- shall, Dennis McDermott, is also the Cana- dian Ambassador to Ireland. Jerry and Don presented an engraved mug from the Police Village of Dublin to the ambassador. This mug was to be given to the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Ireland, Carmen- cita Hederman, who was unable to attend due to commitments in Washington, D.C. The local ambassadors were asked to at- tend the parade next March, but first, both Murray and MacRae conceded, they have to get re-elected later on this fall. Here is what the LACAC committee had to say about the building: This home is a very good example of a modest Ontario farmhouse with a center hall floor plan and understated Regency overtones. This house is believed to have been one of the first brick residences con- structed in Seaforth. ONE SENT We've been busy housecleaning — come in and take advantage of our many bargains.
