and Alex Townsend. They won three games out of seven in the round-robin tourna-

Jr. Belles advance to final series
The Jr. Belles Ringette team travelled to
Huron Park to play the third and final game
of the championship series last Tuesday.
Seaforth had their first power play oppor-
tunity less than a minute into the first
period. A good passing play from Lisa
Henderson to Tammy Nash allowed the
girls to take advantage of it, and they scored
the first goal of the game. Huron Park came
back to tie the game less than a minute
later. The game continued to battle back
and forth with each team answering each
other's goals.
The fans were kept on the edge of their
seats as Seaforth's strong defense and ex-
cellent goaltending managed to keep the
game tied. Then with three minutes remain-
ing in the game, Seaforth's Tracy Fortune
scored the go ahead goal, with a girl in the
penalty box. From there on in they were
home free as they held on to win 9-7.
Goal scorers were: Lisa Henderson (5),
Tracy Fortune (3) and Tammy Nash (1).
Assists went to Nash with (2), Fortune
' (1), Henderson (1), Sheri Kling (1) and An-
drea Ribey (1).
The girls will now try to defend the cham-
pionship against Mitchell.
Mites fare well in tyke tournament
Two Seaforth Mite teams travelled to
Clinton for the annual tyke hockey tourna-
ment, this past weekend.
Team No. 1 played its first game Friday
evening against a very strong Clinton team.
The team never gave up and played a very
good game but were defeated 7-0.
Team No. 2 played its first game on Satur-
day against Bayfield. It was a very close
and exciting game and ended in a 1-1 tie. To
break the tie a six minute period of overtime
was played and both teams scored leaving a
tie game 2-2. A shoot-out, consisting of three
players from each team, then took place.
Two shooters from each team scored, leav-
ing the game still in a tie situation 4-4. Three
different shooters were then selected from
each team, and this time Seaforth outscored
Bayfield and won the game 6-5.
Team No. 1 played its second game Satur-
day at 5 against Exeter and lost 5-1,
eliminating the team from the tournament.
This was only the second game these boys
have played together and they are already
showing some excellent teamwork.
The coaches for the team were Graham
Nesbitt and Bill Carnochan and they said
the boys played well together and showed
some promising plays.
The No. 2 team played its second game
Sunday against St. Marys. The Seaforth
boys were well rested for this game and
came out strong. As a result they defeated
St. Marys 10-1. Seaforth now advanced to
the semi-final round against Blyth, Sunday.
The Blyth team was a strong team and
were a little too stiff of competition. The
Seaforth boys never gave up throughout the
whole game, but lost 6-2 and were
eliminated from the tournament.
Both of the Seaforth teams must be con-
gratulated on their fine team play, because
most of the teams they played against play
together during the entire season and are in
a league.
Coach Rick Wood said he hoped all
players enjoyed the weekend tournament.
"Thanks to all the parents for their support,
but Dan and Art always be at the arena a '6
hour before game time."

Junior broomball teams win
Junior broomball players from Seaforth
and area did well when they competed in
the Junior Provincial Championships held
in Hawkesbury recently.
The provincial tournament, held by the
Federation of Broomball Associations of
Ontario, hosted a number off teams
representing the regions of Central West,
North Central, Central East, North
Eastern, South Western and Eastern.
Each region was allowed to send a team of
bantam girls and boys (ages 11 to 13) and
midget girls and boys (ages 14 to 16).
Seaforth and the surrounding towns of
Mount Forest, Mildmay, Elora and
Palmerston pooled their talent and sent
four teams to represent the Central West
region.
Of those four teams the Bantam girls,
were most successful, winning Gold in
their three -team round robin tournament.
The Bantams played their first game
against the East and did well, despite los-
ing 2-1. Tammy Kennedy scored the only
goal. Tammy however, was injured in that
game, and was out of the line-up for the
rest of the weekend.
The Bantams won their second game as
well, this time by a 3-1 score to North
Eastern. pain Carter scored the only goal
The third game, however, was the most
important with the winner going on to the
final. Central West had to win another
game against North East, and by two goals
to be eligible to go on. They did it, winning
2.0.
In the final tame Central West bet the
East by a score of 2-0 to win the gold. Goals
came from Jody Horton and Shelly
Lansink.
The team was coached by Janice Cairns
with held from Ginnette Nash.
The Midget girls won more games than
the Bantams, but unlike the Bantams won
silver instead of gold. They faced the
largest schedule with six teams competing
for first place.
Central West won its first game against
Central East by a score of 1-0, with
Seaforth's Tammy Nash scoring the goal.
In the second game Central West was
again successful, this time defeating North
Central by a 4-0 score. Tammy Nash
scored two goals and Lisa Henderson and
Sherry Harburn each scored one.
In the third game Central West met up
with a strong and dominating squad from

the Eastern region and were defeated
soundly by an 8-2 score. Local goals were
scored by Tammy Nash and Sandra
MWInally.
The loss left Central West with a tougher
route to the gold medal, but they seemed
equipped to handle it when they again
defeated Central East, this time 2-1 in a
sudden death overtime period., Lisa
Henderson and Tammy Nash shared the
goal scoring.
Then Central West met the Eastern
squad and despite good efforts could not
bridge the 1-0 gap that eventually gave
Eastern the win - and the gold medal. Cen-
tral West had to settle for silver and Cen-
tral East the bronze:
Central West's Sherry Harburn won
Most Valuable Player. Other members of

Marie Beuermann, Diane Campbell,
