Maplewood brightened by bulbs in bloom
A touch of spring is in the air for
Maplewood residents as they are enjoying
the beautiful flowers of the hyacinth bulbs
which they planted last fall. These were
donated by Paul Vandermolen and are a
popular topic of conversation.
On Sunday, Rev. Gillson and members of
the St. Thomas Anglican Church gathered in
the lounge for an after church birthday
celebration for Ned Boswell. This event had
been postponed due to poor weather condi-
tions. Ned was presented with a beautiful
double tiered birthday cake. The top layer of
the cake was used for the birthday party,
while residents and staff enjoyed the bottom
for supper. Everyone commented that the
cake was simply delicious.
Tuesday afternoon, the regular euchre
game took place with several of the
residents taking part. The door prize, which
was a two-way mirror, was won by Pete
Tremeer.
Wednesday morning, Pastor Sadler came
to Maplewood for church service and was
accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Lobb.
Residents enjoyed as they listened to the
very interesting message he brought.
Thursday morning residents gathered in
the sitting room- to listen as Carol Carter
played some of their favorite tunes on the
piano. Residents had a fun -filled evening as
members of the Lioness Club came for
another euchre party. Results of the evening,
were: most games - Isa Stanley and Aznold
Lamont, lone hands - Anne Crerar and Willy
Tremeer; low - Mattie McGregor and Ed
Johns; wild card - Mae Habkirk. We would
like to thank these ladies for a most en-
joyable evening.
Also on Thursday evening residents were
introduced to three young lade who will be
visiting Maplewood doing community ser-
vice work. They were lain Mailloux, Brian
Cook and Craig Murray. Residents welcom-
ed them as they joined in with the Lioness
euchre party and are 'looking forward to
their return.
Friday morning Gail Hills returned to
Maplewood to organize more recipes for the
cookbook. Residents are busy collecting
their favorite recipes for this publication. In
the afternoon, Ruth Bock visited Maplewood
and was in charge of the bingo. As usual,
there was a good turn out for this event. The
lucky winners of Wintario tickets were Isa
Stanley', Jean Guy and Elsie Shaddick.
Sympathy is extended to Eva Mills and
her family on the death of her husband. We
would also like to express our sympathy to
the family of the late Mae Morell. •
