HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Huron Expositor, 1988-03-02, Page 15TUE HURON EXPOSITQR, MARCH 1,19118 — 15 Maplewood brightened by bulbs in bloom A touch of spring is in the air for Maplewood residents as they are enjoying the beautiful flowers of the hyacinth bulbs which they planted last fall. These were donated by Paul Vandermolen and are a popular topic of conversation. On Sunday, Rev. Gillson and members of the St. Thomas Anglican Church gathered in the lounge for an after church birthday celebration for Ned Boswell. This event had been postponed due to poor weather condi- tions. Ned was presented with a beautiful double tiered birthday cake. The top layer of the cake was used for the birthday party, while residents and staff enjoyed the bottom for supper. Everyone commented that the cake was simply delicious. Tuesday afternoon, the regular euchre game took place with several of the residents taking part. The door prize, which was a two-way mirror, was won by Pete Tremeer. Wednesday morning, Pastor Sadler came to Maplewood for church service and was accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Lobb. Residents enjoyed as they listened to the very interesting message he brought. Thursday morning residents gathered in the sitting room- to listen as Carol Carter played some of their favorite tunes on the piano. Residents had a fun -filled evening as members of the Lioness Club came for another euchre party. Results of the evening, were: most games - Isa Stanley and Aznold Lamont, lone hands - Anne Crerar and Willy Tremeer; low - Mattie McGregor and Ed Johns; wild card - Mae Habkirk. We would like to thank these ladies for a most en- joyable evening. Also on Thursday evening residents were introduced to three young lade who will be visiting Maplewood doing community ser- vice work. They were lain Mailloux, Brian Cook and Craig Murray. Residents welcom- ed them as they joined in with the Lioness euchre party and are 'looking forward to their return. Friday morning Gail Hills returned to Maplewood to organize more recipes for the cookbook. Residents are busy collecting their favorite recipes for this publication. In the afternoon, Ruth Bock visited Maplewood and was in charge of the bingo. As usual, there was a good turn out for this event. The lucky winners of Wintario tickets were Isa Stanley', Jean Guy and Elsie Shaddick. Sympathy is extended to Eva Mills and her family on the death of her husband. We would also like to express our sympathy to the family of the late Mae Morell. • Euchre, bingo played at Seaforth Manor Worship Service at Seaforth Manor Wednesday afternoon was conducted by Rev. Cheryl Ann Stadelbauer-Sampa of Egmondville United Church. Jean Durst ac- companied at the piano and several members off the congregation assisted with the singing of hymns. A social time followed the service. Thursday afternoon was euchre with volunteers. Lucky winners were ' Mamie Ross, Margaret Smale, Pat Ryan, Elmer Bakcsy, Marjorie Ryan and Frank Smale. Tue§day morning was wheelchair bowling with volunteer students from the Public School. In the aftemoona film was shown. Friday afternoon was bingo and winning bingos were Harold Walsh, James Nolan, Wilma Brill, Mamie Ross, Keith Herman, Ila Gardner, Margaret Smale, Irene Omand and Margeurite Shill. "Happy Birthday" last week to Maxine Elliott who celebrated on Thursday. PERSONALS Welcome to Marjorie Ryan who has become a resident at Seaforth Manor. She was visited last Tuesday by her husband Lawrence and daughter Joan MacDonald of Montreal. Helen Nicholson visited with Cassie Nicholson last Tuesday. On Sunday Ross and Lillian Nicholson and granddaughter Carla visited. Alex and Helen Chesney visited with Alice Boyes also Frank and Margaret Smale and Norma Jeffrey. Florence Stewart visited with Bill Scott, Norma Jeffrey and Inez Spittal. Bill and Ada Lau, Viola Watson and Laura Withers, all of Parkhill, visited with Bert Deichert last Tuesday. Bill Johnston, London visited his brother- in-law Leo O'Sullivan. Leo's sister Ursula also visited. Alice Reid visited with Norma Jeffrey and Inez Spittal. Mary K. Ryan spent Friday at the home of her daughter Theresa. Rose Ryan visited with Marjorie Ryan. Nettie Rose of Maplewood Manor visited her husband Glen Rose on Friday afternoon. Mrs. Jack McDougall visited Mamie Ross. Ed Boyes visited his wife Alice on Friday. Verda Cameron was visited by daughter- in-law Audrey. Mary Margaret Maloney visited her mother Mary K. Ryan. Rose and Pat Altman visited with Dave and Eva Netzke. Bill Scott was visited by wife Isabel. Steve Ryan and Julie Cronin of St. Michaels' Secondary School in Stratford spent Saturday afternoon visiting residents at Seaforth Manor. Paul and Robert Spittal visited with Mrs. Spittal. Visiting with Norma Jeffrey were Sheila and Jane Morton. and Betty Little. Bert Deichert was visited by his sisters Rose Merner and Virginia Stiver also Clarence and Vera Rohner and Lloyd Deichert. Visiting with Glen Rose were Pete and Betty Swinklgs also Debbie Rose and Pro- fessor Clements. Mr. and Mrs. Don Nolan visited with the latter's father James—Nolan also Marjorie Ryan. Lois McLaughlin visited her mother Irene on Saturday. adys Ruston spent Sunday at her home in Stratford with her family. Geraldine and Anne Wilson visited Mary K. Ryan on Sunday afternoon. Nelson Ryan visited his mother Marjorie Ryan. ' Pat Ryan enjoyed participating in St. James League Bowl against your average Tournament at Starlight Lanes on Sunday.
