The large group enjoyed a roast beef dinner followed by a short talk by Pete Walker. The original Venturer flag was presented to former leader Rick Edwards. Cubs Jamie Campbell and Brad Hartman received awards for their tremendous effort selling chocolate bars last fall. Brad received a Cub T-shirt and hat for his first place effort and Jamie received a shirt for being a very close second. The Beavers visited Thompson's Mill ear- ly in February and are investigating a future project involving speckled trout spawning. The Cubs have visited the O.P.P. station and the District Kub Kar Rally. The Scouts had visits from Zurich Cubs and their leaders in February and toured Port Blake on Saturn :.y, February 27. They are currently holding a logo design contest. Hensall Venturers have attended two winter camps and helped out at the Kinsmen's Hockey Tournament. They will attend the Sportsman's Show in Toronto in March. Venturer Andy Phillips is registered for the Queen's Award. The Annual Hensall Camp is planned for Parkhill Conservation Authority for June 24, 25 and 26. EUCHRE PARTY The monthly Senior Citizen Euchre party was held on February 23 with nine tables in play. Prize winlers were: men's high, Carl Payne; low, Doug Westlake; lone hands, Charles Hendy; ladies' high, Jeanette Turner; low, Viola Hendy; nearest birth- day, Dick Taylor; lucky cup, Alf Ross; lucky chair, Viola Hendy. Draw prizes went to Qharles Hendy, George Dowson, Jeanette Turner, Gertie Moir, Doug Westlake and Vera Ross. SHUFFLEBOARD Please note next week's shuffling will be Kippen World Day of Prayer is Friday Kippen Correspondent MRS. MARGARET HOGGARTH 262-6902 held Monday, March 7, instead of Tuesday, March it due to a seniors' meeting on Tuesday. The gentlemen topped the shuffling scores last Tuesday. Dave Woodward had a very high score of 4113, Alf Ross with 369 and Ross Marshall 345. Vera Ross was high lady with 321, Pearl McKnight 270 and Lorna Spencer 240. NURSERY SCHOOL BUSY The Hensall Nursery School students had a busy February with Valentine's Day, Pan- cake Day, a skating party, and a winter fun - day March looks to be equally fun with. a visit to the Fire Hall, a swimming party and the Fred Penner Concert. The Kinettes made a generous donation to be used towards operating costs. Liz Sangster has been hired as a volunteer. Anyone else still interested in helping out call 2662-21a'; . UNITED CHURCH ' Greeting worshippers at Hensall United Church on Sunday was Donna St. John and halters Doug Mock, Grant St. John, Lorne Gackstetter and Jeff Corbett. Rev. Doug Wright lit the Lenten candles at the start of the. service. He explained to the youngsters the preparation for Easter from the Nativity to the Cross. The Sr. Choir sang "Reach Out To Your Neighbours" and the sermon de t with "Reaching Out". The Congregational Skating Party was held on Sunday followed by a potluck supper at the church. The Christian Development Colt mittee did a good job organizing the party and everyone had a great time. The Thursday afternoon U.C.W. will meet tomorrow at 2:30. The general meeting is Monday, March 7 at 1:30. Don't forget World Day of Prayer this Fri- day at 2 p.m. Reverend Jewitt Parr, former Secretary of Stewardship Services, will visit on Tues- day, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. to tell the Mission and Service Fund story and answer ques- tions about the M&S Fund. PUBLIC EUCHRE The Hensall Firemen held a Public Euchre Tournament on Saturday. The winn- ing teams were Alphonse and Betty.Grenier and Luanne Phalr, and Jeanette Turner. Each of the winners took home a trophy. PEOPLE Sim and Mary Roobol of Hensall travelled to Ridgetown on Saturday to attend the funeral of Mary's brother Anthony Gelderland who passed away after a long Turn to nage 12 • IT'S NOT QUITE THE RIVIERA but it's close enough. Residents of the Queensway Nursing Home took a trip down the Riviera, courtesy of a movie projector, when they studied France at their monthly International Day. Queensway starts week with midmornig tea Queensway started its week on a relaxed note with a midmorning tea party in the sunroom. In the afternoon residents played Bingo with the Kippen United Church women. Thanks to the ladies for devoting Monday afternoons. Tuesday morning Fun and Fitness in the Activity Room perked everyone up. The sun streaming through the windows makes residents long for summertime when they can do their fitness program outdoors. In the afternoon residents were pleased to have Reverend Doug Richards lead the weekly worship service. Wednesday residents were busy mixing up date bran muffins at Baking Club. They sampled them fresh from the oven and declared them delicious. The monthly birthday party took place Thursday afternoon. Residents were enter- tained by Megan Donahue and Shannon Kyle who performed several musical numbers and Carol Gascho and Joyce Pep- per as they sang duets. It was a fun filled afternoon. Birthday greetings are extended to Mabel Chowen, Harold Penhale and Esther Barry. Thursday evening residents attended the movie feature "Love Leads The Way". An excellent movie about the training of the first seeing eye dog and the problems encountered as they struggled to attain acceptance by the public. Friday morning Resident Council met and everyone inspected the new amplifier and microphone system. This equipment was purchased with funds raised by the Queensway Ladies Auxiliary. Church ser- vices and special programs will be much more enjoyable now for the hearing im- paired residents thanks to the Ladies Aux-' iliary. Friday afternoon France was the country featured ah -the international Day. Residents viewed a film on "The French Riviera" and listened to an informative talk by Edison Forrest on his trip to France in 1983. Artifacts from France were loaned by Eileen Rannie, Helen Anderson and Elva Forrest. We ended the program with refreshments consisting of grape, juice of course and delicious chocolate Eclairs. Residents are looking forward to the St. Patrick's Party March 17 from 2-4 p.m. with Marie Flynn and her Huron Strings. Queensway extends its sympathy to ,the, families of Florence Johns .and Mary, Parlmer who passed away this past week.., They will be missed by all. Rev. Lorne Keays' sermon at St. An- drew's United Church Sunday was based on "The God of the Bible". The beautiful table placed in the sanc- tuary of the church was given by Lloyd and June Cooper in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Morley Cooper. Kippen U.C.W. - The regular monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 8 at 8 p.m. in the Sunday School room. World Day of Prayer Service: The Brucefield U.C.W. is holding a World Day of Prayer Service on Friday, March 4, at 2 p.m. in the Brucefield Church. Everyone is invited to attend.
