Maplewood celebrates 100th birthday
Residents of Maplewood Manor had the
great pleasure of celebrating a very special
occasion this week. They were honored to
congratulate Ned Boswell on his 100th
birthday.
Monday afternoon, Austin Matheson, Win-
nona McDougall, Nettie Rose and Anne
Crerar enjoyed a game of bridge.
Tuesday afternoon a Senior euchre party
was held with Grace Broadfoot in charge.
Residents taking part listened carefully for
the sound of a bell, which meant losers had
to move on. Some of the players moved
more often than others. A delicious lunch of
tea biscuits, muffins and jam was served
after the card game. The afternoon was a
great success and residents are looking for-
ward to another visit from the senior group.
Wednesday morning the lounge at
Maplewood was decorated with streamers
and balloons for the great celebration of Ned
Boswell's 100th birthday. Everyone
gathered early for a breakfast birthday par-
ty as to fit into his busy schedule for the day.
On behalf of residents and staff, Fran Hook
presented Ned with a gift, and of course, a
birthday cake.
After blowing out all of the candles, Ned
thanked everyone and gave a very in-
teresting speech telling of all the changes he
has witnessed in 100 years. Later that morn-
ing, residents and staff of Maplewood were
peering from windows and standing outside
to watch and cheer Ned on as he made a
special trip by in his horse-drawn carriage.
Residents and staff were honored to be a
part of this celebration and will certainly be
remembered by all. Again, happy birthday
to Ned Boswell.
Residents gathered on Wednesday after-
noon for church service with Rev. Van Slyke
in charge.
Thursday afternoon, residents welcomed
Ruth Bock who came to call bingo. She was
presented with a red carnation as an expres-
sion of gratitude for her weekly' volunteer
work. Red carnations were the prizes for the
bingo game as well.
Friday afternoon, Thea Wisch visiteldd
Maplewood and gave a very interesting
demonstration of a valentine arrangement
from dried flowers. Mrs. Wisch grows and
dries all of her own flowers, which she uses
in her arrangements. Residents watched as
she demonstrated feat skill at this very in-
tricate art and enjoyed her visit very much.
Residents and staff welcome Leslie Oliver
to Maplewood. He was assisted in his move
by his daughter Joyce Henderson.
