Maplewood has residents' meeting
Residents of Maplewood Manor enjoyed
the usual activities of the week.
On Monday, the regular group of card
players gathered in the dining room for a
game of bridge. They included Austin
Matheson, Winona McDougall, Anne Crerar
and Lloyd Rowat.
Tuesday afternoon, more cards were in
action when residents got together to play
euchre. The group consisted of Gertie
Taylor, Ethel Coleman, Ed Johns, Jean
Guy, Grace Titford, Elsie Shaddick, Edgar
Allan and Isa Stanley. Edgar Allan won the
door prize which was a box of chocolates.
Wednesday morning, many residents at-
tended the church service at Maplewood
when Pastor Sadler came and led in the wor-
ship. He was accompanied by Mr. and Mrs.
Mervin Lobb and their grandson who pro-
vided the music and sang. Those attending
the service were . Helen Dallas, Gertie
Taylor, John 'Pullman, Austin Matheson,
Mae Habkirk, Agnes Hunter, Esther
Thompson, Isa Stanley, Edgar Allan, Laura
Toll, Elsie Shaddick, Arnold Lamont, Anne
Crerar, Jean Elliott, Grace Titford and Jean
Guy.
Wednesday afternoon the first residents
meeting took place. It was decided these
meeting would take place once a mc.(tt.
Everyone is looking forward to making
plans for bus trips and purchasing new
games for their enjoyment.

born Saturday, January 23, 1988. Proud

Seaforth. Proud grandparents are Helen
Vandusen of Napanee, Ontario and Lillian
and Richard Dicks of Oshawa. Great grand-
mother is Mary Jarrell of Marysville.
MARION - Ashley was over excited to see
her birthday surprise, only a day late, a
beautiful little sister who will someday be a
great playmate. Melissa Sue Marion was
born January 14, 1988 at St. Joseph's
Hospital, London. She weighed 7 lbs., 9 ozs.
Melissa will also be spoiled by her older
brother and sister, Christopher and Jen-
nifer, and loved by mom and dad, Connie
and Mike. Happy grandparents include
Margaret Van Dyk, Seaforth, Bob and
Shirley Dinsmore, Seaforth and Pete and
Violet Marion, London.

Thursday morning Edith Dunlop came in
and led the sing song. The residents always
look forward to the weekly musical sessions.
Friday afternoon, Ruth Bock came in and
residents of Maplewood once again tried
their luck at bingo. Those holding the luck
were Anna Sherrin, Isa Stanley and Anne
Crerar who won Wintar]o tickets as their
prize.
Birthday wishes to Jessie Finlayson who
celebrated her birthday on Sunday,
February 17.
This week residents and staff welcome
Ann Agar for a convalescent stay.

Legion activities
Wit 'e winter about half over now, it is
•nice t all of the Legion's entertainment
for er being enjoyed by so many of
the ne, s. Cribbage on Monday nights is
really uc riming quite popular with the
members with seven' and eight tables in
play. Euchre every other Wednesday night
has as many as eleven tables in play. The
next stag will be February 3 at 8 p.m. Darts
are still going Satruday nights at 8 p.m.
Anyone wishing to start playing please feel
free to come and join.
The general meeting for January will be
held this Thursday, January 29 at 8 p.m.
Please plan to attend. Y( `lard working
President and Executive deserve your
support.
Don't forget the special entertainment eve
February 6. This will be Ribs, Pigtails and
Sauerkraut. The meal will be served at 7
p.m. after a social hour beginning at 6 p.m.
Later in the evening The Country Compa-
nions will be playing for dancing pleasure.
This will be a very nice evening so please
plan to attend. Tickets are available at the
Legion and from members of the
committee.
On February 13 the Branch is holding its
annual Honors and Awards evening. There
will be a social hour from 6 to 7 p.m. and a
meal served by the Ladies Auxiliary. The
Awards will be given out immediately after
the dinner. Tickets are available at the
Branch. Please get them early.
There are a number of membership cards
at the Branch now so please drop in and pick
yours up at your earliest convenience.
The Bar roster for the next week is as
follows: Monday February 1 L. Teatero;
Tuesday February 2 R. Gridzak; Wednes-
day, R. Govier and Thursday, B. Barry.
At the going down of the sun and in the
morning we will remember them.

Mr. and Mrs. William Coutts of Walton
are pleased to announce the marriage off:
their daughter Connie, to Robert Cook of
Binkley, Kent, England. The wedding took
place November 24, 1987 in Christ Church,
Barbadoes, West Indies. Mr. and Mrs. Cook
are now residing in Mississauga.

Mary Jo Ryan and John Allan Nelson
were united in marriage on Friday, October
23, 1987 at St. Columban Catholic Church.
The Reverend Father Andrew Sipek of-
ficiated at the wedding ceremony. The bride
is the daughter of Clare Yr and Cecilia
Ryan Wan 2 Dublin and the groom is the
son of Margaret Weber of RR 1 Lucknow
and Jim Nelson of Southampton.°Music was
provided by Mary Coyne, soloist, Patricia
Crowley, organist and the St. Columban
Church Choir. Maid of honor was Colleen
Maloney, friend of the bride and
bridesmaids were Louise Ryan, sister of the
bride, Debbie large and Kathy Currie,
friends of the bride and Mary Ellen Nelson,
sister of the groom. Flower girl was Aman-
da Ryan, niece of the bride. Best man was
David Carson, friend of the groom and the
guests were ushered by Tom Pettigrew,
Steve Large and Rick Neeb, all friends of
the groom and Mark Ryan, brother of the
bride. Ringbearer was Robert Parent,
nephew of the groom. The wedding recep-
tion was held at the Mitchell and District
Community Centre. Guests attending came
from Chatham, London, Melbourne,
Parkhill, Southampton, Port Elgin,
Lucknow, Owen Sound, Kitchener, Strat-
ford, Kinkora, Mitchell, Seaforth and sur-
rounding area. John and Mary Jo are now
residing at RR 1 Lucknow.

ETHEL ISABELL LONG
Ethel Isabel] Long of Brussels died Tues-
day, January 19, 1988 at the Wingharn and
District Hospital. She was 79.
Mrs- Long is survived by two sons, Mur-
ray of Brussels and Garry of Keswick, and
one daughter Doreen (Mrs. Merton
Hackwell) of RR 4 Walton.
Also surviving are three grandchildren
and two sisters, Annie (Mrs. Mac Engel) of
Cranbrook and Jean (Mrs. Jim Keyes) of
Seaforth.
Mrs. Long was predeceased by her hus-
band Joseph Claire Long, one grandson Jeff
Hackwell and one brother Fred Smalldon.
Visitation took place at the M.L. Watts
Funeral Homes, Brussels and a funeral was
held January 21 with the Reverend Vic
Jamieson officiating. Interment Brussels
Cemetery. The Morningstar Rebekah
Lodge held a memorial service January 20.
PEARL MARY THAMER
Pearl Mary Thamer of Walton died Mon-
day, January 18,1988 at Huronview, Clinton.
She was 87.
A daughter of the late William Thamer
and former Annie Yuht Miss Thamer is sur-
vived by three sisters, Laura White of
Goderich, Gertrude Reis of Goderich and
Bella Debus of Brunner, one sister-in-law,
Ruth Thamer of Walton and several nieces
and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Bill
and George.
A funeral service was held at the Brussels
Chapel of the M.L. Watts Funeral Homes,
Brussels on January 20 with the Reverend
Bonnie Lamble officiating. Interment
Brussels Cemetery.
