Centenaires establishing 15 -goal margin It's starting to look as though the Seaforth Centenaires can't get within 15 points of any team in their league. In two games on the weekend the Centenaires lost by two football scores: 17-2 and 19-1. On the previous weekend the Centenaires started their 15 point -spread quota when they lost in Thamesford 19-2. The first game was Friday night when the Centenaires hosted Wellesley, one of the top teams -in the league. The Centenaires had a full complement of players -it was a home game- but still couldn't prevent the Apple Jacks from wheeling the puck. The Wellesley club started the scoring spree im- mediately and came away from the first period with six goals. From there it was all downhill for the Ap- ple Jacks. The Centenaires drew a few "oohs" from the crowd as they created a lot of scorirt opportunities later in the game, but they only managed to put the puck past twice. Mike Betties scored the first Centenaire goal with some fancy stickhandl- ing and a wrist shot that beat the Wellesley netminder's gloveband. Brian Dupuis and Kevin Williamson picked up assists on the goal. Betties also got the Second and last Seaforth goal, assisted once again by Williamson and Terry Pugh. The Apple Jacks were merciless with the Centenaires and the final score was 17-2. The Mount Brydges Bulldogs, a team the Cents' have beaten before, were next in line to humiliate the local club. The Cents' didn't have a full lineup once again -the game was in Mount Brydges- and only 12 players show- ed up including the goaltender. The Bulldogs got their fangs into the Centenaires early in the game with a goal at 17:53. Following this were two quick power play goals and the mauling really got under- way. By the end of the first period the score was 9-0. The second period was just more of the same, with the Centenaires scoreless and the Bulldogs with another five. Late hi the third period the Centenaires broke the Bulldog shutout as Andy Ball, back with the Cents' after being out with an injury, took a pass from Terry Pugh at about the hash marks and put one away for Seaforth. The 'dogs answered with five goals of their own in the period to make the final score 19-1. Centenaire coach Graham Nesbitt says the team has two big problems right nos' which are accountable for the losses the team has been taking. "We don't do our man -on -man RECREATION PREVIEW by Marty Bedard SNOWMOBILE POKER RALLY on SUNDAY, FEB. 7 REGISTRATION WALTON HALL 11:00 am - 2:00 pm HANDS - $4.00 each CASH PRIZES • DOOR PRIZES • FOOD BOOTH assignments deep in our zone," says Mr. Nesbitt, adding "being in front of our net is like being on holidays." He says it is a problem everyone on the team is having and is something which will have to be worked out in practice. Positional play and hard work will get the Centenaires out of the rut they are in according to Mr. Nesbitt. Mr. Nesbitt also says the team is not get- ting the commitment from the players for the road games that is necessary to have a winning team. "We're not getting the commitment on the road from people who should be leaders. People who count, " says the coach. If the Centenaires hope to have any chance of making the playoffs they will have to get these problems worked out before their five game series with Mitchell, which is only six g es away. The Con in played the Exeter Hawks last night the results were not known in time for publication. Their next home game will be February 14 when they play their rival Mitchell in the second last home game of the regular season. Cancellation February 21 Ray's Family Market Hart Ford Hensel) Dist.
