They were in Thamesford to take on the Trojans Sunday night. But in their first game of the weekend, Friday night against the Mitchell Hawks, the Centenaires were anything but humiliated. Mitchell is the team Seaforth will have to beat in a five game series to. make the playoffs and it looks like the two are evenly matched. The fact remains that the Hawks have beaten the'Centenaires In each of their five matchups this season, but the Cents' can definitely play with this team. Mitchell took control of the play early in the first period and had put away two goals by 16:41. But the Centenairee worked hard and started coming on at the midpoint of the period as Rob MtEwen teamed up with Steve Schroeder to start the catch-up. Kevin Williamson was set up for the tying goal by McEwen and Terry Pugh not two minutes later. But the Hawks were determined to go back to their dressing room with a lead and they got it with a third . l late in the period. The, Centenaires had a penalty : to in the first period and it followed them into the se- cond, putting them further behind the eight ball as Mitchell scored on the power play'to take' a 4-2 lead. Mike Schoonderwoerd started evening things up for the Centenaires as the point man received a pass from. Terry Pughcand rocketed a shot that Mitchell goaltender Jeff Redfern nar- rowly saved. Schoonderwoerd picked up the rebound on his shot and beat Redfern upstairs while he was still down. But Steve Murray and Derek Simpson got a goal each to give the Hawks back a com- fortable lead. Murray got two goals and two assists in the game and Simpson got a hat trick and one assist, so the Centenaires will know who to watch for when they bump into Mitchell again. Down by a score of 6-3 the Centenaires fought to get back in the game and Steve Schroeder put them there with his drive from the point which caught the bottom cor- ner. Mike Betties and Kevin Williamson assisted on the play. The Centenaires needed only two goals to tie the game up going into the third period, but Mitchell held them until the fifteen minute mark when they went to work again. They scored once at 15:07 and quickly followed it up with another at 15:45 to extend their lead to four goals and all but eliminate HE HURON EXPOSITOR, JANUARY 20.1988 — Betty "Boo Ladies Broomball PARR LINE 1- WINTHROP 1 Satisfaction came for Joan Henderson as she scores the only goal for Parr Line. Lori Scherbarth makes herself known as she accumulates a sure goal with a little help from Calana Uniac and Marie T. Flanagan.
