MANOR
Weather meant cancelled programs at Manor
Residents found some programs had to be
cancelled this past week due to winter
storms. On Tuesday student volunteers of
S.P.S. were unable to ab ist as buses had to
take students home. However bingo was
held instead and many residents had lucky
bingos.
Pat and Rose Altman visited with the tat-
ter's parents Dave and Eva Netzke.
Sheri and Cindy Maloney, who did a ser-
vice work period at Seaforth Manor as part
of their school curriculum, visited with
residents again on Saturday.

good old tyme music. Susan fayored With Monday morning it looked as if winter had
selections on the trumpet that bgl returned. However, the weather was good
for over the holidays and residents welcom-
ed in the New Year with a party New Year's
Eve for residents, staff volunteers and
guests. Cards were played during the even-
ing and refreshments enjoyed.
Residents were saddened to learn of the
death of Miss Mary Ryan who passed away
in Seaforth Corrlmunity Hospital. Funeral
services were held for her from St. James
Catholic Church, Monday at 11 a.m. with
Father Caruana in charge. Several
residents attended funeral services accom-
panied -by -Ruth Hildebrand, Joanne Ryan
and Jackie Racho. Mary had been a resident
for some time and had endeag l herself to
staff and residents. She will be missed by all
her friends.
Last Monday afternoon Mrs. Carol Carter
and nine members of the Junior, Choir of
First Presbyterian Church visited
Manor,and presented a delightf
program for the residents. Piano
given by Bonnie and nhie-d annerman,
Karen Dillon and Heather McMillan. To the
delight of residents Eta pie Forrest favoured
them with a medley step dance num 4r
Other members of the choir were Michelle
amd Morgan Murray, Julie Carter and Erin
Nicholson. A sing -a -long with residents was and Beryl Nicholson of Harpurhey. Len

growth and residents will be monitoring
them weekly.
We are sorry to report Robert McClure is
presently confined to Stratford General
Hospital but pleased to report Wilma Brill
has returned to Seaforth Manor from our
local hospital.

Reent visitors with Inez Spittal were her
great�grandson, Robert Johnston, her gran-
daughtern.Jane Spittal, also daughter Nancy
Larone and .Bonnie Johnston and Kathy
Larone.
Visiting Frank and Margaret Smale were
Doreen Kelly, also Norah Eckert and Betty
Glanville who also visited with Glen Rose.
Thelma Dale called on Norma Jeffrey on
Sunday.
Ed Boyes, Helen Consitt and Dorothy
Uniac visited with Alice Boyes.

Resident council meeting was held on Fri-
day morning.
PERSONALS
A number of residents were able to spend
New Year's Day at their homes. Gladys
Ruston spent Friday at her home in Strat-
ford with her family. Mrs. Mary K. Ryan
spent New Year's Day with Mr. and Mrs.
George Simpson.
Cassie Nicholson had supper at her
daughter Barbara Alexander's home in
Egmondville. Joe and Dorothy Uniac and
family visited the former's mother Mrs.
Alice Boyes and also Alice went home for
dinner on Friday with her husband Ed. Mr.
Glen Rose spent New Year's Day at the
home of his son Jim and family. Rose and
Pat Altman visited parents Dave and
Eva Netzke.
Visiting with Inez Spittal were her
daughter Nancy Larone and Elsie
Southgate.
Visiting with Mary K. Ryan were her sons
Maurice and Jack Ryan. Also on Sunday her
daught _Geraldine Wilson visited with her.
Mrs. Nolan visited with husban Jim.
Burt Deichert was visited by his sisters
Rose Merner and Virginnia Stever.
Jim and Joan Altman of Kitchener visited
on Saturday with Dave and Eva Netzke.

day with Mrs. Margareet MacLean. Bill Mor-

Maplewood residents relax

This week cold, st rmy weather gave
residents of Maplewood Manor a chance to
stay inside and relax after a busy Christmas
season.
On Monday afternoon, residents gathered
in the dining room for a game of bridge.
They were Austin Matheson, Winona
McDougall, Anne Crerar and Lloyd Rowat.
Euchre players got together on Tuesday
afternoon. They were Gertie Taylor, Austin
Matheson, Winona McDougall, Ed and Jean
Johns, Jean Guy, Grace Titford and Isa
Stanley. The door prize was won by Jean
Johns.
Birthday greetings to Pete Tremeer who
celebrated his birthday on Wednesday.
Wednesday morning Rev. Stadelbauer
Sampa led the worship service at
Maplewood. Those attending were Helen
Dallas, Esther Thompson, Gertie Taylor,
Ethel Coleman, Austin Matheson, Mac .

VERNA BISHOP
Verna Hazel Bishop of RR 1 Ethel died
Tuesday, January 5, 1988 at the Stratford
General Hospital. She was 86.
A daughter of the late John Johnston and
the former Elizabeth Stroud she is survived
by her husband, William Edward Bishop, of
RR 1 Ethel.
Also surviving are two sons, Jack and
Clarence and wife Rose Marie, all of RR 1
Ethel; five daughters, Eva and husband
Clarence Flood of Walton, Helen and hus-
band William Potter of Frankford, Win-
nifred of Listowel, Agnes and husband Ron
Diehl of Monkton, Ethel and husband Ross
Flood of Mitchell; a granddaughter Mary of
Waterloo; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-
grandchildren; a sister, Laura Souch, and
sister-in-law Anna Johnston both of
Wingham.
She was predeceased by two grandsons,
two sisters, two stepsisters, one brother and
two stepbrothers.
Friends were received at the Peebles
funeral home, 141 John St., Atwood, where a
service and committal were held Friday.
Officiating was Rev. V. Jamieson from the
Melville Presbyterian Church, Brussels.
Pall bearers were Calvin Flood, David
Diehl, Rodney Hinz, Robert Flood, Gary
Caesar and Michael Bishop. Flower bearers
were Patti Hinz, Janet Caesar, Rhonda Mc-
Cracken, and Darlene Bishop. Interment
Brussels cemetery.
Wednesday afternoon was spent playing
cards. Euchre players were Pete and Willie
Tremeer, Gertie Taylor, Ed and Jean
Johns, Arnold Lamont, Elsie Shaddick,
Edgar Allan and Isa Stanley. Bridge players
were Austin Matheson, Winona McDougall.
As expressions of sympathy donations
may be made to Brussels Presbyterian
Church, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of
Ontario or the charity of one's choice.
GLEN JOSEPH SOCKETT
Glen Joseph Sockett died Sunday,
January 3, 1988 at the Toronto Wellesley
Hospital. He was 72.
Born in Mount Forest in 1915 Mr. Sockets
was the son of the late Thos. S. Sockett, Ed-
na Dixon and Isabel Wilson. He served
overseas with the tank corp during WW 11
for two and a half years, then settled in
Toronto where he was active with the
Rovers of Chalmers Presbyterian Church
and where he retired from the CNR.
Mr. Sockett is survived by his wife, the
former Velda Gibson of Drew; son Bryan
and wife Ellen; grandchildren Lee -Anne
and Kathy; son Drew and wife Jeanne;
daughter Glenda and husband George Dui.

and sisters Bess (Mrs. Mac Brown of
Willowdalel and Edna (Mrs. Neil Bell) of
Seaforth.
He was predeceased by a sister Helen and
brothers George and Arthur.
The funeral took place January 6 with in-
terment in Glendale Memorial Gardens.
FAIRIE AGNES MCCLOY
Fairie Agnes McCloy of Huronview and
formerly of Seaforth died Wednesday,
January 6, 1988. She was 88.
Born in Tuckersmith Township on
December 10, 1899, Miss McCloy was a
daughter of the late John McCloy and the
former Jennie Gemmell.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Ivy
(Mrs. Edgar Butt) and Jane (Mrs. John

Elsie Shaddick and Isa Stanley tried their
luck at T.V. bingo Wednesday evening.
Thursday Ed and Jean Johns, Elsie Shad -
dick, and Isa Stanley got a game of euchre
going while other residents gathered for a
game of bridge. They included Austin
Matheso • Winona McDougall, Anne Crerar
and Llo watt. Winona McDougall also
ente residents as she played the
piano.
Friday afternoon, residents enjoyed the
game of bingo when Ruth Bock came in to
call the numbers.. Those who tried their luck
were Ed and Jean Johns, Jean Guy, Grace
Titford, Elva Ellis, Jean Elliott and Anna
Sherrin.

held January 8 at the Ball and Falconer
"Box Funeral Chapel". The Reverend
William Barber officiated. Interment

ALICE NIXON
Alice H. Nixon of RR 4 Seaforth, died Sun-
day, January 10, 1988 at the Stratford
General Hospital. She was 77.
A daughter of the late Daniel Munro and
the former Susie Hemsley, Mrs. Nixon was
a member of First Presbyterian Church and
was active in the Barbara Kirkman group of
the church. She had also been an active
member of the former Home and School
Association.
Mrs. Nixon is survived by her husband,
Dale Nixon; five daughters, Mrs. Walter
(Sue) Woytowich of Windsor, Mrs. Charles
(Alice Ann) Tolton, Mrs. Jim (Gene)
Baynham and Mrs. Carl (Lynn) Crossett,
all of London, and Debbie Nixon of Seaforth
and one son, Glen and wife Lola of Hensall.
Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Helen
Mason of Guelph, 16 grandchildren and one
great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son James in
1985 and one brother George.
Friends were received at the Whitney-
Ribey funeral home in Seaforth and a
funeral service was held Teusday. Burial
was in Maitlandbank Cemtery.
RUTH MATHESON TAYLOR
Ruth Matheson Taylor, of Bluewater Rest
Home, Zurich, and formerly of Clinton and
Brucefield, died at the Bluewater Rest
Home on January 4. She was 84 years old.
Mrs. Taylor was born in Tuckersmith
Township on November 1, 1903 to the late
Arthur and Jean (Chapman) Caldwell, On
March 3, 1928 she married J. Harvey Taylor
in the Brucefield Manse.
Following their marriage, the Taylors
farmed in Stanley Township until 1951. They
then moved to Brucefield where they resid-
ed until 1960 when they moved to Varna. In
1965 they returned to Brucefield and in 1967
Mr. Taylor died. Mrs. Taylor lived in
Brucefield until 1969 when she moved to
Clinton where she lived until moving to the
Bluewater Rest Home in Zurich in 1984.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of the
Brucefield United Church, a past member of
the Huronic Rebekah Lodge 306 and was
also the past secretaryy-treasurer of Baird's
Cemetery Board.
She is survived by six daughters, Cora and
her husband James MacFarlane of Coiling
Lake, Alberta; June and her husband Joe
Potter of RR3 Clinton; Donna and her hus-
band Ross Corbett of RR1 Exeter; Ina and
her husband Ross Brown of Newtonville;
Barbara and her husband Fred Preston of
Sandridge; Mary Lou and her husband John
Driscoll of RR4 Walton; and two sons,
William and his wife Helen of Varna and
Douglas and his wife Eunice of Brucefield.
Mrs. Taylor is also survived by two
daughters-in-:.iw, Mrs. John (Myrtle)
Taylor of Brucefield and Mrs. Morris (Con-
nie) Taylor of Gravenhurst. She is also sur-
vived by 42 granchlldren and 39 great
grandchildren.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by one sister,
Mrs. Hubert (Anna) Riffe of El Centro,
California and one brother, William
Caldwell of Clinton.
She was predeceased by her husband, _
three sons, John, Morris and Keith; one
granddaughter, Kim Corbett; one great
grandson, Jeffrey Taylor; one sister; Jean
Caldwell and one brother in infancy.
Funeral and committal services were
held at Ball and Falconer Funeral Home on
January 6 with Rev. Lorne Keays
officiating.
Interment in Baird's Cemetery, Stanley
Township.
