SMITH - Dana is thri'.ed to announce the
safe arrival of Kimberly Anne, uorn Satur-
' day, December 26, 1987 at the Stratford
General Hospital, weighing 6 lbs., 15 ozs.
Proud parents are Terry and Vera. Grand-
parents are Mervin and Marlyn Smith of
Walton and Arie and Sybilla Van Diepen of
Goderich. Great grandparents are Flora
Smith of Beeton and Harold and Monal
Wilson of Orillia.

LESLIE L. KNIGHT
Leslie L. Knight died Thursday,
December 24, 1987 at Panama City, Florida.
He was 79.
A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Knight
of Seaforth, he is survived by his wife, the
former Irma Higgins, a son Howard and
daughters Donna and Arlene.
Also surviving are; brother Frank of
Toronto, sister Florence (Mrs. J.F. Ritchie )
of Londonand grandchildren.
Mr. Knight was predeceased by brothers,
Orie of Goderich, Norman of Seaforth, Cecil
of Kitchener, and Alvin and Carl of
Hamilton.
A funeral service was held in Birch Run,
Michigan and at the Hopper -Hockey
Funeral Home, Exeter. Spring burial in Ex-
eter cemetery.
BILL BATTEN
Exeter Times -Advocate editor Bill Batten
died Tuesday, December 29,1987 at his farm '
home in London township. He was 52.
On sick leave since July 24, Mr. Batten
had been fighting a brave and courageous
battle against cancer.
He is survived by his wife Barbara and
sons, Scott of Yellowknife, NWT, Steve at
home, Brett of Port Franks and Brad John
(B.J.) of London.
Also surviving are his mother Beth Batten
of Exeter, brother John Batten of Elimville
and sisters, Kay (Mrs. Emerson Penhale) of
Elmvi7le and Joan (Mrs. Jock Andrews) of
Ciichener.
A funeral service was held Saturday after-
noon at the Hopper -Hockey Funeral Home
in Exeter, with the Reverend Darrell Shaule
officiating. Cremation followed.
At the request of the family there was no
visitation at the funeral home until the day
of the service. As expressions of sympathy
donations to the Canadian Cancer Society
would be appreciated.
MARY RYAN
Miss Mary Ryan of Seaforth died on
December 31, 1987 at the Seaforth Com-
munity Hospital. She was 86.
Mary Ryan, daughter of the late Thomas
Ryan and Elizabeth Mcllhargy and
predeceased by one brother John. Survived
by cousins. Visitation was held at the
Whitney Ribey Funeral Home, Seaforth, on
Sunday and Monday. Mass of the Christian
Burial was held at St. James Roman
Catholic Church. Interment St. Patrick's
Cemetery Dublin.
Pallbearers were Leo Ryan, Earl Ryan,
Maurice Ryan, Matt Coyne, Elmer Feeney,
and Russell Smith. Bearing flowers were
Clarence Ryan and George Kreutzwiser.
- BETTY SALVERDA
Betty Salverda of RR 1 Londesboro died
January 1, 1988 at Stratford General
HospitaL She was 86.
Daughter of Peter Salverda and Hinke
Schaaf, Mrs. Salverda. was married to Ed-
ward Salverda on August 25, 1923 in
Franeker Holland. She is survived by her
husband Edward; two daughters, Helen and
her husband Gordon Schikker of Chatham,
and Klaasje (Mrs. Douwa Bouma) of
Holland; three sons, Michael and his wife
Johanna of RR 1 Clinton, Peter and his wife
Gay and Edward and his wife Ida both of RR
1 Londesboro. She is also survived by 14
grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Salverda was predeceased by one
great-grandson, six sisters and four
brothers, and by one son in law Douwa
Bouma.
The Salverdas came to Canada in 1951.
They settled first in Somra Township, but in
1955 they moved to'their present farm in
Hulled Township. Mrs. Salverda was a
lifetime member of the Burns U.C.W.
Funeral service was held Monday,
January 4, 1988 at the Box Funeral Chapel,
with Rev. Carl A. Schouls officiating. Inter-
ment Burns Cemetery, Hallett. Pallbearers
were Neil Salverda, Adrian Salverda, Eddie
P. Salverda, John Salverda, Eddie Salver -
da, and Bruce Bergsma.
70TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
On January 9, 1918 Jennie Elizabeth
1tcGavin, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
J.J. McGavin of McKillop Township and
Wilbur Evans. Turnbull, eldest son of Mr.
and Mrs. Oliver Turnbull of Grey Township,
were united in marriage. The ceremony was
conducted by the Rev. F.W. Craik of Walton
Methodist Church. v"
In celebration of this occasion they will be
"at home" to relatives and friends at their
residence, Thomas Street, Brussels on
Saturday, January 9, 1988 from 1 p.m. to
3:30 p.m.
After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Turn-
bull settled on lot 11, concession 15, Grey
Township where they farmed for 53 years.
In 1970 they moved to their present
residence on Thomas Street, Brussels. A
breeder of Shorthorn cattle and Yorkshire
and Lacombe swine, Mr. Turnbull was
recognized. provincially and nationally for
his contribution to his vocation.
Until recent years, the Turnbulls were ac-
tive in their community. Mr. Turnbull was a
charter member of the Brussels Lions Club
and enjoyed the activities of the senior
citizens club. Mrs. Turnbull was an active
member of the Walton Women's Institute
and of Duff's United Church, Walton.
Mr. and Mrs. Turnbull raised two sons
and two daughters: Dr. John 0. of Seaforth,
William J. of Brussels, Helen, Mrs. George
Habkirk of Ingersoll and Dorothy, Mrs.
Doug Lawless of Byrlington. They have 11
grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and
two great -great grandchildren.

Ruston exchanged wedding vows Saturday,
November 28, 1987 Northside United
Church, Seaforth. Rev. James VanSlyke of-
ficiated at the ceremony. The bride is the
daughter of Jane and Marlen Vincent of
Seaforth and the groom is the son of Elza
and Keith Ruston, also of Seaforth. Matron
of honor was Kathy gcott of Waterloo, friend
of the bride and bridesmaids were Jane
Twynham of Kitchener, friend of the bride,
Ruta Vitins of Fort Murray, Alberta, friend
of the bride and Sandra Morrison of
L,icknow, sister of the groom. Flower girl
was Ashley Vincent of Ayr, cousin of the
bride and ring bearer was Michael Walters
of Lemington, cousin of the bride. Richard
Ruston of Thornhill, brother of the groom,
served as best man. Guests were ushered by °
Bryan Vincent of Seaforth, brother of the
bride, Barry Vincent of Seaforth, brother of
the bride and Ralph Morrison of Lucknow,
brother-in-law of the groom. Organist was
Margaret Whitmore of Walton. Marlen Vin-
cent sang "The Wedding Prayer",and the
quartette of David Campbell, GorMiller,
Barry Vincent, and Bryan Vincent sang
"Because" and "0 Perfect ,Love." Out-of-
town guests at the wedding were from Lon-
don, Kitchener, Hamilton, Toronto,
neighboring towns in Ontario and Webster,
New York. The reception took place at the
Seaforth and District Community Centres,
Seaforth. The couple honeymooned in Bar-
bados, and now reside in Hamilton. Marcon

PROTECTION OF INDIVIDUAL PRIVACY ACT
Ontario's new Freedom of Information and Protection of Individual Privacy Act, which
is now in effect, provides:
® a wide range of access to government information with a few exceptions; and
• standards for privacy protection that must be followed to protect your
personal information when it is either used or disclosed by a government
agency.
The Act covers all ministries and more than 200 government agencies. These
organizations. along with many public, libraries and Ontario Government Bookstores,
have copies of reference directories dealing with General Records and Personal
Information. ,

Freedom of Information and Privacy Coordinator who can assist you when making a
request.
