The Seaforth Bantams took part in the
Silver Stick tournament held fn Kincardine

the bo s.

wain and Ted Sills each scored one, goal and

minutes. Milverton scored at the halfway
mark of the second period and it was enough
to give them a 1-0 win.
The fourth game was played in Ripley
against Howick. Howick took an early two
goal but Seaforth scored late in the first
period to stay in the game. The game was
close and could have gone either way until

LADIES BROOMBALL
WINTHROP "2" COMMERCIAL "2"
In the first half of the game the Commer-
cial Ladies were so wound up and eager they
had the first goal in before anybody realized
what had happened. Audrey Schenk took full
control over the first goal unassisted. Bev
Shea squeezed a corner shot over the top of
the goalie's head for a sure point with Mari
T. Flanagan by her side. Frustrated Donna
Arts said this is enough clowning around
and got down to business, as she got three
cracks at the ball, and into the net it went
with help from her chum Deb Murray. With
52 seconds left in the last hall of the game
Donna Arts was flat on the ice when she
smacked the ball and "Wow" tied the game
up. Her patrons were Jean Haggitt and
Susan Hulley.
QUEENS "1" PARR LINE "1"
Parr Line started the scoring off with 8
seconds remaining in the first half of the
game, as Sandy Fremlin took a smooth
follow through shot and the ball glided along
the ice and under the goalie's broom. Jan
Rutledge was Sandi's associate on the goal.
With the clock tickintaway Queen's player
Cheryl Kruse noticed only 50 seconds left in
the game. With a burst of energy she yelled
"open" and as she saw the ball travelling at
full speed dropped to her knee and then her
elbow chipped the ball over the goalie's
head to tie the game up. Confident passing
from Jean Haggitt and Sharon Murray
assisted the goal
JUNIOR FARMERS "1" PERTH " 4"
Liz Rhode was on cloud nine as she scored
the Junior Farmer's first goal of the season.
There was an outburst of joy from her team
mates, Nancy Vink was her helper. The
Perth Ladies were stunned by this act, but
came back in full force with Karen
McLagan scoring off of Joyce Dow's re-
bound. Lynda Doupe snuck in and popped
the ball into the net with help from Beth Con-
sitt. Paula Serda took a nine iron and putted
the ball into the net. Thanks for the chip shot
Kathy McPhail.
RIVER RATS "4" RED RUSTLERS "0"
A hat trick plus one. Can this fellow get his
helmet off? Ed Van Miltenberg was the tack
of the night "go Ed go". A glisten of glitter
came from helpers Steve Eckert Jr., Gor-
• don Edwards, Robert McGrigor and Robert
Hunking. The Mustangs just never got the
breaks for scoring.
KNIGHTS "0"CHLSLEHUTIST "0"
These two straight forward teams played
impressive broomball. Admirable
sprotsmanship was greatly shown.
RED RUSTLERS "0" DUMPERS "10"
Red Rustlers received lots of ice time but
very few goals. They worked hard and
received no reward. The Dumpers had a
good workout, with Jim Finlayson starting
the ball to roll by sliding through on his
knees and scoring. Help came from Dale
Kennedy. An extended flip shot proved pro-
sperous for Larry Dolmage. Direct passing
came from Brill Dale and Rick Archambault
A three on none break and John Caun's flexi-
ble wrist shot paid off. Helping him was Jim
Nash and Dale Kennedy. Brad Finlayson,
two feet in front of the goalie, flipped the
ball into the net. Good job Tom Burk was
beside him.
GRADS " 7" H.T. ROYALS "0"
H.T. Royals had ample opportunities for
scoring but were unsuccessful. The Grads
outdid themselves on goal scaring. starting
things off, Adrian Wydwen standing three
feet from the goalie, drilled it from the front
to the back of the net. Brother Robert
Wydwen and Craig Smith were a big help. A
blasting shot from the bine, line soared
through the air 'Ind into the net before
anybody saw it. No assistance was needed.
The star of the evening finally got the
hang of •broomball, tearing bis first goal of
the season was Craig Kerslake. Hugh
Crawford was his main man Finally the
number one man scored a tranquilizer goal
which was deflected in by Henry Wydwen.
Help came from Mike VandenheuveL
WINTHROP "1" PARR LINE "1"
The Parr Line men shook up the wt
Parr Line team by scoring the first goad-,
Paul Gibbing's long shot was a surprise to
the opposing goalie as it flew on by. Ed
Salverda and Len Vanwanderen was his
sepport. Tieing the game up was Dave
Hulley who shot from centre ice. No help
needed.

the last two minutes of the second period
and the first two minutes of the third period
when Howick went ahead 5-1. In spite of the
large goal difference, the Seaforth boys
showed a lot of class. They worked hard up
until the last buzzer. They had lots of scor-
ing opportunities but the puck wouldn't go
into the net. Scoring for Seaforth was Mark

Smale. Assists went to Kevin Mcllwain and
Mike Murray.
In addition to the boys already named
Jason Horan and Brad Schroeder gave an
all out effort for Seaforth.
The Howick Bantams went on to take the
championship with a 5-4 win over
Kincardine.
Petites meet, Blyth after long holiday
The Seaforth Ringette • Petites hosted
Blyth Sunday January 3 after a long holiday
and won the game 6-1.
Scoring for Seaforth were Carrie McLI-
wain with two goals, and Jennifer Marion,
Lisa Gingerich, Jill Carnochan and Jennifer
Siemon each with one. Assisting on the goals
were Christa Leonhardt, Kelly Rau, Jill
Carnochan, Jennifer Siemon, Carrie McLI-
wain and Michelle Etue.
Lisa McKay played in net for the first
time and did very well. Blyth has improved
a great deal since the last game, which
mad it more of a challenge for our Petites.

Centenaires called impersonators
The Seaforth Centenaires have been ac-
cused of "impersonating a hockey team."
The charge was made by a radio station
which blasted the team after their 16-0loss
in Lucan on December 30.
The game was full of penalties and fights,
and several members of the Centenaires
organization felt the refereeing of the game
wasn't what it could have been. By the end
of the game there were only enough
Centenaires left to cover the positions on the
ice, with no spares. The rest had been
thrown out of the game for fighting, and one
had an injury.
Poor refereeing can't be entirely blamed
for a loss of the proportions sufferred by the
Centenaires at Lucan's hands. The team
played their worst game of the season and
there were jokes circulating through the
arena that only half of the ice would need to
be cleaned at the end of the third period -and
it wasn't the ice at Lucan's end.
But Seaforth put the loss behind them
when they faced off against Belmont on Sun-
day night in Seaforth. The Centenaires had
excellent pressure in the first period, but
had a hard time cashing in on scoring oppor-
tunities.
Belmont was the first on the scoreboard
as one of their, forwards picked off a bad
Seaforth pass and beat Bill Tremeer. But
Seaforth evened things up when Rich Boddy
stole the puck right out of the Belmont
goaltender's hands to slide a backhand bet-
ween his legs. Seaforth out -played Belmont
in the first period, but came away with the
score tied 1-1.
The tie was broken in the second period as
Belmont again got the upper hand, scoring
once early in the period and again at 10:12
on a power play. Kevin Melady teamed up.
with Brad Carter to put one in on a Seaforth
power play, but Belmont answered with
another goal of their own to make the score
4-2 after two periods.
After their lapse in the second period the
Centenaires tried to get things going again
in the third. Rob McEwen scored one for the
local club assisted by Terry Pugh and
Trevor Price. But penalties in the last five
minutes of the game killed any hope of a
comeback for the Centenaires. Belmont
picked up a couple more goalsto make the
final score 6-3 in their fabour. The shots on
goal in the game were 34 to 32 in Belmont's
favour.
There are now 12 games left on the
Centenaires' schedule. Because the Clinton
Mustangs folded and their wins and losses
were discounted, the Centenaires record
now stands at 2 wins and 22 losses.
The Centenaires' next home game will be
January 12 when they take on the Brussels
Bulls whom they got their second win from
on December 19.
