Several members of the Three Links Seniors attended the barbecue and entertain- ment for the Seniors at Huronview on Thursday. Members of Amber Rebekah Lodge met on Wednesday evening for their final meeting before the summer months. Noble Grand Marg Upshall assisted by Vice Grand Eunice Aikenhead conducted the meeting. It was announced the District meeting will be held at Clinton Lodge on Wednesday June 27 at 8 p.m. All past Grands are invited to attend. Members were asked to provide for the Bake Sale for the Centennial from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 30 at the arena. Volunteers for the food booth at the arena are also needed. SOUTH HURON YOUTH FOR CHRIST Youth for- Christ held a very successful chicken barbeque on Saturday night Julie 16 at Mr. and Mrs. Ken Gascho's Park, west of Zurich. The young people enjoyed a ball game before supper. After the barbecue, Bob Heywood pro- vided music on his accordian and led the singing of various choruses. Rev. Bob DeGraw from Centralia was the guest speaker for the evening. Dr. Robert and Mrs, Mickle, Jamie and Craig who live near Ayr spent Sunday with the former's mother Mrs. Laird Mickle. OVER 100 ATTEND BIRTHDAY PARTY Over 100 family members attended a surprise birthday party in honor of Maggie Campbell of Hensall who observed her 86th birthday. The family arranged the surprise gathering at the Centralia Community Centre on Sunday, June 24 and the family, children and grandchildren celebrated with her. Evelyn Schroeder visited with her sister Bertha MacGregor recently. LEGION NEWS At the last general meeting it was decided to sponsor Louise Allan and Jackie Ferris with baseball uniforms. A discussion was held on Block Parents and all agreed this was a very worthy cause and 550. was donated towards helping them get organized. The Centennial Calendar sponsored by the Legion is now ready to sell. The Calendar is for 18 months and has historic pictures of Hensall in it. The Calendar may be purchased at William's Hairstyling, Ron's Health Centre, and the Legion Hall for 53 or you may call 262-2618, 262-3018 and 262-5313. Plans for the pork barbecue on Saturday, June 30 are well underway. The Drumhead Service oil Sunday. July 1 is only a few days away, so`don't forget to Meet at the public school at 2 p.m, Transportation is available for those who cannot parade. An invitation is extended to all members„ friends and guests to visit -our Legion Hall. over the Centennial weekend. • Ray McKinnon has moved to Bluewater Rest Home; we wish him well in his new residence. The Hensall Legion was saddenedrecently with the passing of our Loyal Comrade, Garnet (Pete) Allan, whose presence among us..will be missed. Garnet was a 30 year member of the Branch and immediate Past President. On Sunday June 17 a Legion Memorial Service was held at the funeral home. Legion members from Goderich, Clinton, Seaforth, Exeter and Hensall attended. Garnet was well known in the zone so there was a large attendance. Branch #468 wishes to extend their condolences to his wife Donna and family. They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them. Mrs. Jack Corbett attended the Morenz Reunion at Mitchell Park on Sunday. Senior Citizens Sunday was observed at the United Church on Sunday morning when the congregation heard Mr. McDonald speak on the subject of Choosing Life. He spoke of how so many of our advertisement encourage people to look young, be young, but the Bible encourages people to choose life regardless of age. A great many people are worried about adding years to their life when they should be adding life to their years. Nancy Campbell greeted the congregation and Scott Jamieson, Scott Jesney _Jefin Rowcliffe and Cecil Pepper were the ushers, The Open House for Centennial Weekend will be held on Saturday, June 30 at the Presbyterian Church from 10 to 12 a.m. and the United Church from 2 to 5 p.m. and on Sunday and Monday, July 1 and 2 from 3 to 5 p.m. at both churches. The Community Centennial Service will be held next Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the ' Community Centre with Rev. Rod Ferguson as the guest minister. Brucefield has outdoor service MRS. ISA13EL SCOTT The outdoor church service for the Brucefield Kippen congregations was held on the south lawn at Brucefield Sunday morning. Don Moffat led in the service and spoke about farming and outdoor living. The combined choirs sang two anthems with Barbara Livermore at the piano. After lunch Sports were held. Next Sunday communion will be held at 11:30 am with Rev. J.' Bechtel officiating. Wesley Ham, Huntsville spent a few days last week with his mother Mrs. A. Ham, Art Moffat and his mother Mrs. C. Moffat, Sombre spent Sunday with Mr, and Mrs. Don Moffat and family. Mr. and Mrs. Leon J. Rushcal, Victoria,- B.C. are visiting with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ross Scott and with Mr. and Mrs. Ken Scott. ART SHOW-Artstudents of SDHS held an art display -on Main Street last week. The display was organized by Angie Menary so that public . could view the art work of students.. Sills who took them on a trip down mefnory lane when they ascended the "Stairway to the Stars" on Wednesday, June 20. • Mr. Sills has acquired a wealth of historical data inlhe pictures and artifacts of by -gone days in Seaforth that are both entertaining and educational. Members went to the home of Mrs. Wm. McDowell for the remainder of the meeting which included the decision to plant the white pine tree at Chiselhurst where the first meeting of Kippen East was held, and a motion to cater for a wedding. Motto was read by Mrs. Harry Caldwell in the absence of Mrs. Vern Alderdice. • Mrs. Dave Triebner gave a poem and Mrs. Drummond gave readings. Mrs. Campbell Eyre gave "Old Household Hints". Mrs. Carl. Payne presented her report ow the District Annual and courtesy remarks were given by Mrs. Al Hoggarth. Kippen East members who attended the 7Qth anniversary party of the Zurich Branch of the WI were Mrs. Alex McGregor, Mrs. Al Hoggarth, Mrs, Harry Caldwell, Mrs. James Drummond, Mrs. Campbell Eyre and Mrs. Carl Payne. Kippen UCW meeting was eeld-on June 12 at 8 p.m. in the Sunday School rooms with 16 members present. The treasurer's report was read by Mrs. Bert Faber who reported 51450.38 was cleared at 'Teacher's Professional Day Din- ner. Mrs. Emmerson Kyle read thank -you notes and Mrs., David Cooper was in charge of Topic. The members were then divided into four groups to discuss 1) what was the main item they could not do without, and 2) outside the' basic' necessities what was the most important. The responsive reading was then read by Mrs. David Turner, and Mrs. Emmerson Kyle closed the topic. it was decided to purchase a vacuum cleaner for the church and 'Mrs. Keith Lovell and Mrs, Bert Faber are to look into this. The Kippen UCW are toentertain the residents of the Bluewater Rest Home in Zurich on July 10 at 7 p.m. Mrs. Grant Love is to replace Mrs. Laird Finlayson on the floral committee. The June 30 bale is to go to Goodwill of London and items can be left in the church until then. The annual Fowl Sapper will be held on Nov. 14. The ladies will cater to the Consitt wedding on Sept. 8 at Varna Recreation Centre. He was disappointed to miss the Canadian National at Hully Gully. which was cancelled because of the rain, but he hopes to return in September to compete in that race. Last Sunday. Gerald and Mary Moffatt entertained several members of Mary's family from the Ridgetown and Chatham area.
