A18 ® THE HURON EXPOSITOR; JUNE 20, 1984
The Farm Show
The Farm Show, a stage production
which will be presented as part of the
Brussels bicentennial celebrations, won't
be shown on stage as such, but will take
the centte ring at the Brussels Stockyards.
And for this reason, the show promises to
be hilarious.
Directed by Carol Oriold of Wroxeter, a
teacher at Listowel District Secondary
School, actors in the play are all local, and
for most, it's their first major production.
The Farm Show was first presented in
Huron County in 1972 and even then, it
wasn't shown on stage, but in barns
throughout the county. The play is unique
because a script wasn't written until after
the performances.
"It was Paul Thompson's idea. The play
was created in Clinton when six actors from
the city came up and helped out on local
farms," says Mrs. Oriold.
Local
Talent
Presents
It was this experience that produced the
show. But just as life on the farm changes
each day, the script can also be changed.
And that's just what Mrs. Oriold did. • "The
script is only meant as a guideline. 'l
rewrote a complete scene and some scenes
have different endings from the original."
For those who saw the first production
over 10 years ago, people can be sure that
the 1984 showing of The Farm Show will be
as good as the first. One reason is that 12
actors instead of the original six act out the
parts of, The Farm Show.:
And actors do indeed" -act out the parts.
The show only has a few props. Machinery
such as a tractor, baler and bus; and even
farm animals such as chickens, cows and
pigs, are portrayed by the actors. Judging
from rehearsals, the actors are imaginative
and convincing whether playing the role of
a housewife or a tractor.
