Daring a meetingon leadership, both units
of the Walton UCmet at the church on
Wednesday evening with 21 ladies present.
Marie MCGavin led in the devotions
assisted by Viola Kirkby reading scripture.
Marilyn McDonald read an item on the theme
of leadership, entitled "Getting off the
Pew":
Each person was given a candle which was
lit, representing the light given from Christ.
Marie McGavirrwas pianist for the singing of
the hymns.
-Ruth Axtmann, leader of the Christian
Leadership Development of the Huron Perth
Presbytery, was guest speaker.
She said to decide who is a leader and
follow the leader. We were to think of
someone who gave a great influence in our
lives. Everyone can be a leader and if you are
a leader express yourself.
The meeting was turned over to Marion
Godkin, first Vice -President who opened the
business. Marilyn McDonald assisted with
the minutes and thank you card was received
from Mildred Traviss.
A report of a very successful garage and
bake sale the previous Saturday was given by
secretary totalling almost the 5500.
The resource centre will close June 22.
Orders are to be in before that date.
Someone is wanted to do typing for the
Sunday church bli,lletin. Contact Rev. Swan.
It was moved to have the St. Thomas men's
choir on Friday evening, Oct. 21 with a
discussion on price of tickets:
It was also announced that church repairs
of 52100 i yottld be completed by September.
A bicentennial project of the UCW would
be the front wooden doors and the offteial
board project of the two entrance windows,'
There will be no church service .at Duff's on
July 1 asOpll churches will hold a Bicentennial
service (outdoors) at the Brussels. Morris and
Grey Coprmunity Centre at 11 a.m.
Vacation Bible School is July 9.13 from 9:30
till 11:45 a.m. If anyone can help during the
week can Dianne Baan at 887-0622.,
A shower was announced for Kim
Humphries on July 6; The suppers for the
Blyth festival for Walton Church are Aug. 3
and 10.1
SUNDAY WORSHIP
Presentations of awards of the Sunday
School were held during the morning service
at Duff's United. Church.
The children presented a couple of
choruses accompanied by Gloria Wilbee with
her guitar.
Cathy McGavin, teacher for the nursery
class for this year read out the children's
narhes and Maxine Marks presented the
awards: Nursery class members were Colleen
McCallum, Lisa Gingerich, Shannon Davies,
Allan Weisbrod, Patricia Clark, Neil Saur,
Lee Ann McDonald, Chad McCallum, Valerie
Collins, Stephen Nichol, Amanda Workman,
Ellen Workman, Stacy Linton and Randy
Linton.
Children receiving awards were Colleen
McCallum - missed no Sundays and received
her second year wreath and third year seal;
Chad McCallum - missed five Sundays,
received his first year diploma; Allan
Weisbrod - missed two Sundays, received his
first year diploma and attehdanee pin:

are Lisa Gingerich,' Patricia Clark, Allan
Weisbrod, Stephen Nichol and Stacy Linton.

six year bar and six year seal; Cindy
McCallum - missed no Sundays and received
her three year bar and five year seal; Randy
McClure - missed two Sundays and received
his first year diploma and perfect attendance

Under clear blue skies but cool tempera-
ture, many Belgrave and area residents
gathered at the Belgrave ball, park Friday
evening to .njoy ball games and4he official
'turning on' of the new park lights.
The Mite boys and girls were the first to
play and everyone ° enjoyed watching the
young athletes. The girls are coached by Jim
Taylor, Linda Bird and Barbara Black. Ruth
and Neil Olson coach the boys.
The next team. to take to the field were the
Squirt girls and boys. The boys are coached
by Lloyd Michie and Murray Shiell while the
girls are coached by Nancy Daer and Lisa
Thompson.
The Bantam girls played against the Pee
Wee boys and provided super. entertain-
ment. Cheryl Walker and. Patty' Nixon are
the coaches for the girls while Harry Wilson
and Glenn Coultes are coaches for the Pee
Wee boys.
When the sun had set, Bill Elston, Reeve
of Morris Township, and Neil Vincent,

Reeve of East Wawanosh officially turned on
the new lights:
Lloyd Michie, Chairman of the Commun-,
ity Centre Board gave a brief history of the
park.
The Marnh Maroons and the Belgrave
Riggers both slow ' pitch teams from
Belgrave, played ball..
'While everyone was enjoying the ball
game, Stevens Country Gold provided the
music in the arena for dance following the
game.

UCW MEETING
At the regular, meeting of the Afternoon
Unit, Mrs. Earl Anderson presided. Helen
Martin read a poem.
Final plans were made for the "Over 80"
birthday party for Aug. 14.
Alice Scott concluded the study "Life for
Women" from "Jesus Means Life" showing
that Jesus defended women and also chose
women as followers.
Mrs. William Fenton read from the Bible
showing women's equality with men and
Jesus' compassion for women -

Sunday School attendants at their anniver-
sary and flower service Sunday morning.
A prelude of music was presented by Mrs.
George Procter, organist and Sheila Ander-
son, pianist.
The service was conducted by William
Coultes, superintendent, assisted by Rev.
John G. Roberts.

Scripture readings were given by Ben
Barnes and Heather Hopper relating to the
Pharisee, the tax collector and God's gift -to
uk•of eternal life.
The choir accompanied by Mrs. Procter
sang "Praise to the Lord" and "Give Thanks
to God."
Attendance awards were presented by
William Coultes assisted by Clifford Coultes.
The offering was received by Alison
Coultes, Chris Michie, Katherine Procter
and Corey McKee.
Guest speaker was Marvin Smith of
Listowel. Mr. Smith is an einployee of the
Ministry of Natural Resources in Wingham.
His sermon was entitled "Awards - Earthly
and Eternal."
Following the service everyone enjoyed a
barbecue chicken lunch which was served in
the church schoolroom and the W.I. Hall.
PEOPLE WE KNOW
Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler accompanied her
grade eight class of Lucknow Central Public
School on their annual excursion to Ottawa.
Murray Cardiff, MP talked with the students
before they sat on the Senate meeting in
the Commons.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Procter returned home
on Friday, June 15 after attending the 40th
anniversary of the D. Day landing in
Normandy, France. They also visited with
friends and relatives in Holland.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Davis of Brampton
spent the weekend with his father Kenneth
Davis.
Doris Comba of Almonte near Ottawa is
spending a week with her daughter and
son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Howard Morton,
Heather and Ian.
Clara Fernandes of London, Dale Lamont
' of Hensall and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Cottrill of
Wingham visited on Father's Day at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lamont.

The annual Forester's barbecue and
installation was held at the home of Bro.
Jack and Sister Jean Conley with a good
attendance. Bro. Gerry Ginn, District
Deputy installed the officers for 1984-85.
Sister Jean Ginn served as high marshal'. A
barbecue followed.
Members and friends of the W.I. joined
with Moncreiff and Monkton on June 15 for
a bus trip to the Boat Farm at Caledonia. All
agreed it was a real good day. Jack Smith,
Monkton was the bus driver.
