BRUSSELS BROWNIES, Girl Guides and
Pathfinders raised $267,25 to assist Girl
Guide, Ruth Ann Watts on her International
Girl Guide Trip to Europe In July. The girls
sold tickets for 25 cents each or five for $1.00
'and also sold chocolate bars to raise the

On Sunday, June 10, the Sacrament of
Baptism and Holy Communion were cele-
brated in Knox Church, Cranbrook.
Rev. Don McInnis baptized Christopher
Allan Smith, Leanne Mae Minielly and Anne
Marie Morton who were received into
membership along with Mrs. Gladwyn
Knight, Patricia Dickinson, Dwayne Evans;
Gerald Knight, Murray Smith, Beverley and
Gerald Hart, Wayne and Joan Smith. Each
new member was given the choice of a Bible
or Hymn Book which were presented by
Clerk of Session, Jack Conley.

Word was received of the death of Rev.'
Iver D. MacIver at Kingston on June 4. He
was a former minister of Cranbrook and
Ethel in the 1940s. Surviving is his wife
Helen.
Howard Mitchell and son-in-law Russel
Playford, Thorold spent several days here
recently.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Strickler spent a
week camping in the Pt. Pelee area and

WINGHAM AND DISTRICT
HOSPITAL CORPORATION
Notice is hereby given that the Annual Meeting of the Wingham and District
Hospital Corporation will be held at the Nursing Assistant Training Centre,
Catherine St.. Wingham. Ontario on Thursday, June 21, 1984 at the hour of
eight o'clock p.m. for the reception and consideration of Annual Reports, for the
consideration and confirmation of new bylaw 36 (b) respecting the duties of the
Community Services Liaison Committee, for the election of Governors, for the
appointment of Auditors, and for the transaction of such oth& things as may
properly come before the meeting.
Copies of the proposed new bylaw may be examined in the office of the
Executive Director of the Wingham and District Hospital prior to three o'clock
p.m., Thursday, June 21, 1984.
Memberships granting voting privileges may be purehased at the front desk of
the hospital for one dollar ($1.00) prior to five o'clock p.m. Wednesday. June 6.
1984. No membership sold after that time. on that date. will entitle the
purchaser to a vote.

UNITED CHURCH NEWS '
The 1984 Ontario Conference For Women
of the United Church of Canada was held
last weekend. "It takes enormous power to
break through oppressive systems,said
Lois Wilson, former moderator of the United
Church of Canada and currently president of
the World Council of Churches. • • -
Speaking at the 1984 Ontario conference
for women of the United Church of Canada
which met at Waterloo, she provided
challenging perspectives .on the conference
theme, "The Promise of Power".
The church needs to play a much stronger
role in the community, contends Hazel
McCaWion, mayor of Mississauga. "Church
women need to give up teas and quilting,
and contribute to the moral fabric of this
country." She urged the 375 delegates to
become involved in the issues facing their
communities.

SHOWERS HELD FOR LOCA', GIRLS
On June 11, the Melville Presbyterian
Church basement was decorated by Leona
Armstrong for a bridal shower in honor of
Elizabeth Exel _daughter of Joan Exel.
Mrs. Joanne King and the church choir
organized the. program. Laura ,Dourna and
Margaret McLeod sang and Leanne Arm-
strong favored the ladies with a piano
selection. Joanne and Karla King played a
piano duet. The cast of choir members
entertained the large crowd with a skit.
Nancy Exel read the address and presented
Elizabeth with a shower booklet which held a
lot of memories• of growing up in Brussels.

and two of 'her bridesmaids 'assisted

selections While the guests were arriving,
Kelly Stephenson introduced.Waneta, her
mother Joan and sister Hoe, the gloom's
mother, Ruby and maid of 'honour, 'Jennie
Hopp r. Nella Blake then read a story about
grandma's Bnau A contest was conducted by
Kim and_ Kelly Stephenson.
Nella Blake told about the costumes while
Esther McCutcheon` the bride, Edith Pipe
the mother-in,law and Edna Pearson, the,
mother modelled the'clothes. Waneta then
opened her gifts.
A group of 130 friends gathered at St.
John's Anglican Church.on June 13 to honor
Michelle McCutcheon on her forthcoming
marriage to Bruce Blake.
The St. John's choir sang three seleections,
accompanied by Michelle at the piano.
Michelle has been organist at the church for
seven years.
Jennifer McDonald and Tracey Finch,
members of the Brussels Scarlets, enWttain-
ed with baton solos,. and. Susan. Meyers
delivered a humourous'reading about •the
"Weddi'ng". Because of Michelle's Rreat
involvethent with music, an •address to her
was sung.• This was done by Mary ;lane
Pearson; Jennifer Lyons and. Bev Cardiff.

Fainily arid Consumers Affairs 'meeting in
the library on June 13. President, Peggy
Cudpsore, presided over the business and
the Secretary -treasurer, Leona"Connelly read
the reports.
The proceeds from the Dessert Euchre
were 596.80. The W.I. road signs are ready
-to be put up.
Flans were finalized for the hospitality'
centre to be located in John Cousin's store
during the . week . of June 26 for the
Bicentennial celebrations. Coffee and cook-
ies will be 'seried and quilts will be on
display. Ticket will , be sold„ oh. the
Bicentennial quilt. which is being made and
on an afghan.•
WI members will be serving refreshments
at the Farm Show being held at the Brussels
Stockyards on June 25, 26 and 27. Donations
of old fashioned cookies were asked for.
The Motto "Eat right, live longer" was
prepared by „Margaret Exel and read by
Kathy Bridge. The guest speaker was Muriel
Huth, the Huron County Dairy Princess from
Clifford. She gave a talk on Milk and its
nutrients and gave a demonstration on
-.preparing a fruit dip and a vegetable dip
which was enjoyed for a lunch along with
fruit bread,
