Fined for cutting trees
A former' Kincardine area man has been
fined SI ,000 for cutting about 60 undersized
trees in Huron County.
John Nesbitt of Aylmer and formerly of
Kincardine was charged under the Huron
County tree cutting bylaw for cutting trees in
East Wawanosh Township on May 24, 1983.
County tree commissioner Joe Gibson said
this is the second time the county has had a
conviction under its bylaw.
Mr. Gibson said the landowner involved
had an agreement with R.K.M. Wood
Products of Tiverton for marketable timber.
However, Mr. Gibson said the landowner
noticed the size of trees being cut and called
him in.
Mr. Nesbitt had been hired by the
Tiverton firm to cut the trees.
A similar charge against R.K.M. Wood
Products was withdrawn.
The case was heard May 31 by Justice of
the Peace Gordon Ferris in provincial
offences court (criminal division) in Goder-
ich.
DRAINAGE PAYS O F F
in drought prevention
Good drainage promotes root growth as plants reachfor the capillary water in
the soil. In undrained land, capillary water is available only near the surface so
root systems are shallow.
When dry weather arrives, shallow roots cannot supply enough water to the
plant to keep it healthy. Deep rooted crops also withstand wind and stand better
at maturity as well.

This week I shall make this column short
and sweet as time does not allow for much
more. I haven't allotted myself enough -time
tp do justice to this article and with the berries
ready to pick, the grass growing like mad and
ready to be cut again, that lovely rain and the
hay being cut and bailed, you don't have time
to read it.
The high schools are now all out and exams
are over and all that is left is the unbearable
anticipation of final report cards. That two
week wait seems longer than the whole school
year. In simple terms it is called being
impatient.
The grade school students will be coming
home on Friday ladened down with work
books bursting at the seams with completed
lessons, with projects ands a whole year's
collection of valuable Scraps of paper that
only has value to their owner.
When the wee tribe unloads all their
priceless collections on the kitchen table,
mom smiles and hopes that no one wants
supper tonight because there is no place to
put it and it will take a week to sort out and
praise all these marvellous items from finger
painting to that artistic masterpiece.
