BERTHA MaeGBEGOR 262-2025 Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Blackwell flew to Vancouver and visited their daughter and son-in-law Shahram Marashi and baby daughter Sarah Atessa. While there, they also visited with their daughter Mary Moody and her daughter Nataska at Grand Prairie Alberta. Mrs. Charles Goodman, of Detroit visited last week with her cousin Mrs. Jack Corbett. Three links Seniors will meet on June 12 at 8 p.m. Evelyn Flynn and Pearl Taylor are ori the entertainment committee and Alex and Evelyn McBeath are on the social. For Seniors month an invitation was received to a barbeque of Huronview on June 21. The Seniors are also planning a bus trip to the Geritol Follies in Toronto at Massey Hall on July 4; the bus will leave Hensall. There are plenty of seats available; for a seat please contact Bertha MacGregor phone 262-2025. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Mosier, North Carolina, and Mr. and Mrs. Les Adams, Exeter were visitors last week with Mrs. Jack Corbett. Asa Deeves is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter, where he is receiving treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Luther returned home after a motor trip to Winnipeg and Saskatoon. Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Johnston, London spent the weekend with the tatter's mother Mrs. Asa Deeves and visited Mr. Deeves in Exeter Hospital. QUEENSWAYNEWS Ladies from Unit 2 of the Hensall United Church were into Queensway on Monday afternoon to play bingo with the residents. Church service on Tuesday afternoon was conducted by Rev. James Forsythe. Along to assist him with the service was Rev. Mills and Bob Cameron at the piano. On Wednesday morning, the residents viewed a movie and in the afternoon, tabled of crokinole and checkers were set up through- out the home. On Thursday afternoon, residents got involved in a sing -song. In the evening- a movie depicting the life and adventures of "Grey Owl" was viewed by the residents. The newly purchased "Swing bowl" game was tried out on Friday morning when the residents got together. In the afternoon the beautiful weather was enjoyed when the • residents went on outdoor walks. • Ida Dicker( visited with Evelyn Workman who is a patient in Stratford General Hospital.. - Mrs. Glen McKnight attended the funeral of hetsister-in-law Mrs. Russell Blackwell in Landon,on Saturday. Residents at the Northcrest Home enjoyed a delicious pot -luck dinner on Thursday evening with 16 attending LOCAL GIRL GRADUATES . Cecil and Joyce Pepper and family attended the Convocation Cerem y `-at•_ Guelph University last .Thursday for the graduation of their daughter Brenda epper) 'Brennan who graduated with her of Arts Degree in Sociology and Anthropology. Brenda is presently employed with the University of Guelph. To help celebrate the occasion everyone enjoyed a lovely dinner in the Amber Capola Steak house in Guelph. Service in Carmel Presbyterian Church was conducted on Sunday by Rev. Kenneth Knight with Joan Keys at the organ. The P.0 W. ladies gvil1 hold their annual birthday party on Monthly June 11 at 8 p.m. ,Madeline Edward, Goderich will be guest speaker and special music will be supplied by Susan Moore of Exeter. All ladies are welcome. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith were guests on Saturday at the wedding for Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Alexander, which took place in the Chapel at the Bluewater Rest Home, Zurich. LEGIONNEWS On Friday evening an installing team from the Zone came to Hensall to install the new officers of Branch 468 and the Ladies Auxiliary Installed were President, Larry Uyl; first Vice-president, Dave Smale; second Vice- president, Monty Plumb; Secretary, Bea Uyl; Treasurer, Murray Traquair; Sgt. -at -Arm, Irvin Ferris; Chaplain, Rev. Stan McDonald; Past President, Pete Allan; Executive, Pete Zwann, Ted Roberts, Paul Neilands, Mona Campbell, Charlie Cooper, Lloyd Allan, Fred Campbell, Pete Aldan and Terry Sweager. . Ladies installed were,'President, Colleen Ferris; first Vice-president, Donna Allan; second Vice-president, Jessie Cameron; aSgt -at-aims, Marg Vanstone; Executive, Jdan Munn, Hilda Smale, Bea Uyl, Vera Smale, Louise Aldan, Lillian Beer, and Joyce Willert. Sunday afternoon "Open House" was held view the medals that had been collected m our first and second war veterans. If there are anymore medals that anyone would like to donate to the Legion get in touch with Larry Uyl at 262-2618 and we can see about making another frame. Our next General meeting will be held June 13 and we hope there will be a good attendance as we will be finalizing our plans for the Centennial weekend. The Legion Auxiliary began their monthly meeting by dining out. There was a good attendance and the comradeship was excel- lent. Coming back to the Legion, Hall we got down to business. The old table that was in the basement is to be refinished and the men',s washroom ppstairs remodeled. The Ladies had a banquet the evening before Mother's Day and the Branch sent corsages to the Arena. The Ladies 'thought this was great and would like to thank the men for their thoughtfulness. Evelyn Traquair is in University Hospital and we wish her a speedy recovery. Branch 468 extends 'their sympathy to Kathleen McClinchey and her family on the loss of a beloved husband and father. This is the anniversary of D -Day. At the dawn of the day, 40 years ago June 6, many young fathers, sons and brothers would never return to their homeland. We shall always remember them. A good crowd attended. Irene Davis who had been active in getting this program started chaired the meeting. She mtroduced Eileen Miron of the Exeter Block Parent Committee and Lois Godbolt and Cpl. Woodward, O.P.P., Exeter. Cpl. Woodward spoke on the preventive measures of the Block Parents, and showed slides on the subject. Eileen Nfrron, spoke to the parents on the work a Block Parent Committee had to do, the success of the program in Exeter and the formation of two successful committees which they had organized in Dashwood and Crediton. Many parents had filled out forms saying they were willing to serve on a committee or be a Block Parent. Officers elected for the Hensall Block Parent Committee were Ann Rose, chairman, Susan Campbell, assistant chairman and Karen Shirray, Secretary Treasurer. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Mann returned home from a trip to Denmark. The United Church was filled on Sunday morning for the Annual Promotional and Award Sunday conducted by the Sunday School. The Service was conducted by Donald Wareing with Dianne Hamilton reading the Scripture and Bill Stebbins leading the congregation in prayer. The ushers were John Rooseboom, Robert Gackstetter, Wayne Scotchmer and Andy Philips. Lorne Spencer greeted the congrega- tion. The Service was based on the theme of Hensall "Living and Working together and through a chancel drama, written by Pam Mallette and Joanne Fields, showed the importance of a church in the community and the beginning of Rogerville, thefust church in the Hensall district. Those playing parts in the Drama were Diane Stebbins, Pam Gackstetter, Tim Brock, Mark Brock, Chris Campbell, Elizabeth Thompson, Wayne Scotchmer, Gordon Hamilton, Bevin Moir and Lind Shirray. The service, enacted as if in the old Rogerville Church, was interspersed with the old Gospel Hymns. Harry Stuart told the Children's Story and talked about the antiques that were displayed around the church. During the Award Service Harry Stuart gave Awards for perfect attendance foi+.first year to Jeffery Rathwell, Dennis Noakes, Scott Reid, Jeff Reid, Chris Campbell and Jeremy Reid; for the second year seal to Jonathon Corbett, Cathy Corbett, Karie Consitt, Julie Rooseboom and Mark Bell; the third year seal to Kerrie Lynn Taylor, Jennifer McGee, Katie Rathwell and Lisa Campbell; the fourth year seal to Ryan Kyle, Terri Lynn Elder, Kim Scotchmer, Carrie Stuart, John Rooseboom, Kerrie Sue Kyle, Leann Consitt, Richelle Elder and Ryan Stuart. The fifth year seal went to Jodie McGee, Jaimie McGee, Derich McGee, Gordon Hamilton, Diane Hamilton, Tim Brock and Mark Brock; the sixth year seal to Thomas Scotchmer, Shawn Wurm, Mindy Bell; the seventh year seal to Linda Shirray; the eighth year seal to Robert Gackstetter, Wayne Scotchmer, Pamela Gackstetter, Diane Steb- bins, Angela Bell, Bevan Moir; the ninth year seal to Bill Stebbins, and the 12th year of perfect attendance to Donald Wareing. Joanne Rowcliffe, secretary for the Sunday School presented the Promotional certifi- cates. Being promoted from Nursery to Kindergarten were Julie Rooseboom, Karrie Consitt, Dennis Noakes, Scott Reid. Jeff Reid, Mark Bell, Krista Gass, and Peter Owen Bisback. Wishing them farewell was Janice Butson and Janye Consitt. teachers of the Nursery Department and greeting them was Dana Bozatto teacher of the Kinder- garten One Class. Promoted from Kindergarten to Primary were Leann Consitt, Ryan Kyle, Richelle Elder, Tma Dayman, Janine Haytor, Blair Moir and Loir Gould. Wishing them farewell was Starr Jesney tearher of the Kindergarten two lass and greeting them was Beth McGee teacher of the Primary one class.
